need help reformating puter

for some reason, it installed 2 xps on my puter, one is corrupt, and it has fucked up the other.

how do i get rid o both os systems, to just install 1 on D and format C as just a slave drive!

insert your XP CD and boot from CD.
delete both partitions and format in NTFS or FAT 32.
reinstall XP on the FIRST partition (C) and make D your slave.
you won't have to do anything to make D the slave once you install the OS on C.

Make sure it's set to boot from CDROM at the BIOS.

Try tapping DEL (sometimes F1...F2...) at bootup to access BIOS settings.

Depending on how old your PC is, you might have problems with booting from a CD. If its a copied CD, then it might be a problem with the CD. Other then that, as Martyred said, as the Computer boots, look for the bottom to display something along the lines of "hit Del to go into setup". Some new machines also offer F8 for boot options where you can choose to boot from the CD-rom. Also, when it starts to boot from the CD-rom, most Bioses will display something like "Hit any key to boot from the CDrom", at which point, you should hit a key, like Space.

Don't use Fat32 partitions unless you have a good reason for it. If you don't have anything important on your hard drive, you can just use the quick format option. You only need to create your first drive/partition that you will install your OS on. Use at least 4gb for the windows partition. Format that partion as an NTFS drive. Then once the install is finished, you can go into Disk Manager and create other partitions and format them as you need them.

I will throw in one more Note. Sometimes when you re-install 2000 or XP, the configuration will be saved even if you don't have 2 installs, so when you boot, it will give you an option for the old XP/2000 install and the new one. The first option should be the correct one. If you are sure that there is only one Windows/winnt directory (in other words only one actual windows installed) then you can go into your boot properties and remove the 2nd Windows boot option so your machine will automatically boot into the only exisiting windows on the system.

Since you say that your machine is having problems, it sounds like you will just need to re-install it from scratch. Don't be surprised if you will have a choice of multiple windows when you boot after the install.

it worked, but i still have 2 os on puter!

Do you actually have a 2nd OS on your computer or does your computer say you have a second OS when it boots up?

i have 2

i have to chose which 1 at start

and both hd's have windows folders installed

All you have to do is format the 2nd Hard drive to get rid of the 2nd OS and then go into your boot parameters and delete the boot options for the 2nd windows.

Format the second hard drive using Disk Management in Windows.
A repair install should correct your Master Boot Record.

Open up the case and check the "flux capacitor" make sure it lights up. should boot fine after that.

Damn. That Flux capacitor will get you every time if you don't keep an eye out.
