Tough week for Boise's AD

Post by King Crimson »

lose shot at BCS game, undefeated season in OT.

TCU bolts to Big East....minus Utah, TCU, and BYU....the formerly respectable MWC looking at a possible BCS bid is pretty much gutted.

pretty good article about the downturn of MWC fortunes. on the CU homer boards, there's talk of Larry Scott maneuvering to facilitate nearly all these moves to eliminate market competition for his "brand" ahead of media and TV negotiations. if so, pretty shrewd.

Couple questions on the article you linked . . .

1. Is Hawai'i joining the MWC? Makes sense to me, but I hadn't heard that they were.

2. (Dependent on Question 1) If Hawai'i isn't joining the MWC, where does the author get that there will be 10 teams in the MWC? By the time all the dust settles, BYU, Utah and TCU are all leaving, and Fresno State, Boise State and Nevada are joining. That would keep the conference at 9 members.

1. Hawai'i is leaving the WAC. That much I think is for sure....but whether they would join the MWC or go Indie, don't know if that's been determined or what the variables in play are.

2. 9 or 10, I dunno.

with TCU leaving, I think Hawai'i's bargaining position would be much stronger vis a vis considering an invite.

another side-issue here: MWC coaches Troy Calhoun and SDSU's Brady Hoke are on a lot of BCS job lists....and with the conference imploding a bit....makes you wonder if they might be more eager to make the jump to next thing.....though, apparently both Calhoun and Hoke have told Minny "no thanks".
