IT'S GAMEDAY!!
Not sure why, but I am excited for a meaningless, minor bowl game and I'm going straight up homer with my predictions because I've already had a bunch of jackoffs crying about my Facebook status predicting a Missouri blowout win......Iowa fans are a sensitive bunch. If you call it like you see it and the way you see it is not a Hawkeye victory, you're a horrible person.
So I am changing my prediction on this forum:
Here is what is going to happen....
Iowa will come out motivated like they did in 2006 against Texas in the Alamo Bowl. Our defensive philosophy will be to attack (for the first time ever) instead of sitting back and letting Gabbert nickel and dime us all day (which he can do quite effectively). Clayborn will show up for the 1st time all season (he's still on the team, right? he hasn't been seen since the Orange Bowl last year but he is listed on the depth chart) and Gabbert will be on his back all day.
We don't need DJK to beat Missouri. Stanzi to McNutt.......................all day!
Hawks score on the opening possession and coast to a 31-17 victory that means absolutely nothing.
Stanzi will be 22-32-265
McNutt will have 7 catches for 95 yards and a game clinching, 4th quarter touchdown
T1B is taking the day off work today to get ready for this bowl game, right???

Iowa’s on a 3-game losing streak. Probably not going to end today.

Re: IT'S GAMEDAY!!
I'll take Iowa....just because I want them to win....and I am looking for Marcus Coker to have a big night running the ball because he is now Iowa's #1 running back and, following Adam Robinson's arrest on drug charges yesterday, will be #1 next season too.
How the fuck does a player get arrested for ANYTHING given what's happened in Iowa City over the past month? Fuck DJK, fuck Robinson, and fuck any other Hawkeye player stupid enough to put themselves in that position. Robinson is not currently on the team due to academic issues but was expected back in January. I'd say his return is highly doubtful at this point.....and would be a definite "get the fuck out of here" if I'm Kirk Ferentz.

Coker was their 4 string RB, right? Wow, you guys have zilch for depth at that position. Who is behind him? A 3rd string WR?
Iowa still has the defense to make this a game, but I say Mizzou wins and covers.

Holy shit! I did not hear A-Rob got busted, but then again I haven't been paying attention. Wow, what a moron.
Coker is our ONLY RB available for the bowl game because A-Rob is out and Brad Rogers is injured. We just landed a 4-star RB and he is going to have to be ready to play next year because with Hampton and Wegher leaving, we're gonna need him.

Re: IT'S GAMEDAY!!
Nobody. We have absolutely no backups available for this game. And I would say that we should probably just throw the ball around all day but without DJK, I don't know how we do that. This could get ugly.Coker was their 4 string RB, right? Wow, you guys have zilch for depth at that position. Who is behind him? A 3rd string WR?
Re: IT'S GAMEDAY!!
They've obviously got somebody working out at RB the past couple of weeks but I have no idea who it might be now that Rogers is out with a heart murmur or some other heart condition. I seriously doubt that they're going to play with only one RB available and surely at least have a Sam Brownlee type walk-on or three that could spell Coker. I guess we'll find out tonight.TheJON wrote:Holy shit! I did not hear A-Rob got busted, but then again I haven't been paying attention. Wow, what a moron.

Re: IT'S GAMEDAY!!
Should definitely be interesting, especially if Coker gets hurt. You just never know with this stuff. My lock of bowl season last year was Texas Tech hammering MSU by about 30. With half their starters suspended, MSU still almost gutted out the W. Only 5 plays away or some shit.

BTW, the irony of "Coker" being the only available RB is some good shit.

Re: IT'S GAMEDAY!!
I don't know who. Apparently, Bernstine has been switched from DB to WR and he played a little RB in HS (with A-Rob) so maybe him??
We went into the season as one of the deepest backfields in the country. Now we're down to our 4th string RB and he doesn't have a backup that we know of.
Oh, shit I forgot...............Paki O'Meara. Dear god, this could get ugly if we have to use Paki at RB. He's bad........for a walk-on!!
We can't really give Paki carries against Missouri, can we??? Man, I hope not. Coker is a solid RB, but he doesn't have a lot of experience and I fear what could happen if he's not able to carry the ball 20-25 times. It's really simple.........we either have a lot of Stanzi to McNutt downfield tonight or we got no shot. How else are we going to move the ball??

Re: IT'S GAMEDAY!!
Yeah, I got to thinking about it and then it hit me....Paki is going to be the backup.....oh my fucking God!!! They do have Deandre Johnson (redshirt freshman) but I can't believe they would pull a redshirt off a good running back for a shit bowl game....maybe if they were playing in the national championship game, but not for the Insight Bowl. I'd say it's Coker and Paki O'Meara. Let's hope that Coker stays healthy tonight. If Paki has 5 carries he's likely to fumble at least twice. The defense may have to score some points tonight or, at the very least, give the offense a short field with some turnovers, or hope that the special teams can give them a huge shot in the arm. Maybe Ferentz will allow O'Keefe to open up the passing game tonight and Stanzi can hit a few big plays.TheJON wrote:I don't know who. Jon, as I recall, already dialed in his built-in excuse 2 weeks ago. Iowa can't get "up" for Missouri.

Gabbert can pick this apart all night long but if I could talk to Yost after that first drive, I would fight him. QB draw? Seriously?
MU D better step up.
Gahhh.... I just posted in a Jon poll thread. I am scarred for life.

Sitting six rows up on the 15 yard line behind the Mizzou bench. Hawks looking good so far. I'll try to check in periodically, but AT&T's coverage is pretty sketchy in here.

This is god damn embarrassing for our coaches to leave Troy Johnson out there. I feel bad for the kid. This isn't fair to him. Put a nickelback in and quit being retarded.
Gabbert has 13 completions thrown at him. Ridiculous.

Re: IT'S GAMEDAY!!
I'm arguing vociferously right now with my daughter about how high in the draft Gabbert might go.
She doesn't want him to leave Mizzou early and neither do I, but NFL scouts are drooling.
I told her she's looking at a combination of Brett Farve and Tom Brady right now.

I have to admit, I'm gonna be happy when Mike Meyer isn't kicking for the Hawks anymore. That motherfucker always comes up ahead of me on Google (hence the "R" in my byline). I took a few pics, but they're pretty boring. I'll try to get them posted later.

Re: IT'S GAMEDAY!!
It's becoming clear, after watching the Jons squander leads late all year...
2 problems.
Iowa has some very good defensive players... 1 deep. No depth whatsoever, and thus can't rotate guys in.
And in the absence of depth, the physical conditioning is horrendous.
Some teams that stand out as 4th quarter stalwarts this season were Oregon, Auburn, and even MSU, to an extent. They had plenty of bodies to put in, and the physical conditioning of the stars was excellent.
Iowa don't got it -- bad coaching.
Your best DB went down, and got replaced by a frosh with 10 plays under his belt? Seriously? That's just stupidity on the staff's part. Get them some reps against the cupcakes, idiots.

Re: IT'S GAMEDAY!!
Embarrassed by the defense. Clayborn is the biggest piece of shit ever. Nice effort, fatso. He's not a 1st team all-american. He's the worst defensive end in the country.
Another choke job by a Ferentz team!

A classic matchup down the stretch -- Iowa's horrible coaching of basics and conditioning, against Stinkel's legenday 4th quarter play-calling...

Re: IT'S GAMEDAY!!
Nice game Mizzou. Gabbert is an awesome QB with a great future, and this was a great game to watch for a shit bowl. And Rack Marcus Coker for an awesome game and setting the Insight Bowl rushing record.
Yeah, Iowa lost a lot of close games this year but, Dins, it's the same coaching staff that won all of the close ones a year ago and went 11-2, so, as usual, you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

Re: IT'S GAMEDAY!!
what could have been....
Just goes to show, we can play with anybody. All the injuries and suspensions, yet somehow managed to beat a 10-2 team.
It just makes no sense how this team finished 8-5. Lose by a combined 4 points to a pair of teams with a combined 21-3 record and beat 2 teams with a combined 21-4 record (2 of those 4 losses were to Iowa). It boggles the mind how a team that's managed that can finish 8-5.
Anyways, good to finish off this pathetic season with a win. And props to Marcus Coker. What an outstanding performance, and its a real shame our coaching staff struggles to recognize their own talent at times. This isn't the 1st time the obviously more talented player has sat behind a lesser talented player and only got a chance to play if the starter got hurt.
The win doesn't really matter though and so it just goes to show how retarded bowl games are.
