Michigan D just got better

Post by Mace »

Michigan hired Baltimore Ravens DC Greg Mattison. This should be a good hire to shore up the Michigan defense in the near future.

Had Norm retired this year, this is who I would have expected Ferentz to go after. I know the 2006 Outback Bowl was quite strange and uncomfortable for him having to coach against his son. I wonder if Brian will join him to coach the defensive line or in some other capacity.

Good hire for Michigan. He's a solid coach. Looks like Hoke is assembling a quality staff.

Mattison is a very, very good recruiter and an average DC. This will improve UofM (what hire wouldn't?) and was better than some of the other shit-tastic names being floated out there like Ron English or Steve Wilks, but Mattison will have trouble with teams who run a version of the spread. While he was the DC at ND, he actually had the play calling duties stripped from him, and he was Co-DC at UF with Charlie Strong.

Solid hire, they could have done much worse.
