The 2011 Lockout - Will we have football in the fall?
Re: The 2011 Lockout Watch
The fact that we have to listen to billionaires arguing with millionaires about how to divide up their loot is purely nauseating.
Go Patriots! ! ! !

No one is forcing you to listen or even contribute a dime.
So, you have two choices -- put your money where your mouth is and stop supporting the industry, or put your mouth where my money is.

Re: The 2011 Lockout Watch
Why would the players ever agree to get fucked up that ass like that? Do you honestly expect them to take a 10% cut in revenue and play two extra regular season games? That would be a horrible deal.KC Scott wrote:I'm pretty sure the "staunch" opposition to the proposed 18 game schedule is just a bargaining chip and they'll cave pretty quick on it if the revenue pie stays pretty close to current structure.
I'm also 100% there will be a rookie salalry cap and the owners will give into increasing the minimum roster size.
I could also see the owners agreeing to a longer term health plan (current is 5 years after retirement ) and reducing the OTA.
The fact ESPN just agreed to 2 Billion for MNF makes the "We're Losing Money" argument look kinda sick
The current revenue split is 60% to the players - I'm thinking they will settle around 50-52%
Really? Have you seen their books? I don't doubt that a number of small market teams are struggling. They've got a lot of overhead and most of the value of these teams is in equity not liquid assets. The fact ESPN just agreed to 2 Billion for MNF makes the "We're Losing Money" argument look kinda sick
A rookie salary cap makes sense for both sides so I don't see that as particularly controversial. The "take a paycut and play more games" is a non-starter.

And since they're not in the union with a vote, it's easy to vote for.KC Scott wrote: 1. The rookie Salary cap - it means more money goes to the veteran players. Meaning that while they may be giving back a % of total revenues the impact on their checks may be minimal
Worked out reasonably well in the NBA.

First of all WAR EAGLE! Second of all, my point is that the common fan will likely feel VERY alienated by a work stoppage with all the money floating around the NFL. Whether or not I contribute a dime is irrelevant. 3rd of all, why don't we ask the NHL how well a work stoppage plays out for the greater good of the sport?

Will we have football in the fall?
I'm hoping that the two sides can come to an agreement and not kill the golden cow. Is it Billionaires vs. Millionaires? with the little guys paying their salaries and getting screwed?

It's golden "goose", dumbfuck.
There will be a lock-out in March, settled in April before the draft.

If they were truly in solidarity there would be no pro-bowl this year.

The union is united in the prospect of getting OTA's off this year.
Deal will get done before a game check is lost.
