Re: Madison protests
I heard today that professional public sector people earn 25% less than their private counterparts. The difference is made up with that job security and health benefits. When I talk to public people, those are the biggest draws.*
I was laid off of private. Now I'm in public. I wouldn't advise anyone to take that route because public sector has little-to-no innovation. I also wouldn't advise it because I see what everyone makes and there is a lot less money in public. Embarrassingly less.
The "public workers and their cushy benefits" story must be plausible now thanks to benefits going to shit the past 8 years.
*they must be delusional, though. their job is in jeopardy with every election.

Jobs that require higher levels of skill will undoubtedly pay more on the private side because that is what the market will bear. What most people are fed up with are the low skill public sector gigs that pay sometimes double what a comparable private side job pays.Bizzarofelice wrote:I heard today that professional public sector people earn 25% less than their private counterparts. Re: Madison protests
hmmm... maybe Walker should start looking at his own hires to save some money...
Tom Nardelli.http://www.jsonline.com/news/milwaukee/115733614.html
He's already drawing two taxpayer-paid pensions, will soon get a third one, and has just been named by Scott Walker to a $90,000 a year state job.
Nardelli, a long-time alderman, collects a $30,000-a-year pension from the city. He also draws an Army pension, having served more than 25 years, much of it in the reserves, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He was Walker's county chief of staff at a salary of $75K, and is still drawing that until April, when his unused vacation and personal days run out and he switches to a $4500 a month county pension.
For those good at math, that's at least $100,000 a year in pensions, on top of his $90,000 salary.
Nardelli will also be eligible for a state pension. If he keeps his state job for four years, he could get about $5,700 a year.

You're always free to introduce evidence supporting your position. Walker inherited a balanced budget that would have stayed balanced. But Walker decided he needed to pay off his campaign supporters in the form of tax cuts. Ergo, a completely made up and preventable deficit.mvscal wrote:Well...if you say so.BSmack wrote:No, he LYING about the deficit.Truman wrote:So Walker's been in office for all of one month, and has already managed to bury Wisky in a $3 billion hole? Re: Madison protests
In Oregon, the new-old governor is an absolute pawn of the public unions...
and even he's saying "you're killing us."
So the Taxer has proposed wage and pension freezes, and some small contributions on the public tit-suckers' part.
They countered with "Actually, we want some cost of living increases, more vacation days, and one extra paid holiday."
If their twice-bought-and-paid-for lacky tells them they're completely out of control, there might be something to it.
Oregon public tit-suckers have it really good.
Depending what figures you look at for both sides, it looks like Oregon, on a per-capita basis is deeper in the hole than california -- that's not an easy feat too pull off... and the lion's share is public employee entitlements. And Oregon now has a credit-rating worldwide in the negative numbers, so the borrowing money until revenues go up thing is out of the question -- the money just isn't there. And to try and fix it, new taxes got passed that had the ultimate in unintended consequences -- they're in the early stages of taxing all but the tax-reduced companies (sup Intel and Nike) right out of the state, so the brilliant business taxes they shoved down everyone's throats with threats, have led to reduced state revenue. The funny part is, that the public employee unions (who completely have 100% control of Oregon elections) thought they were voting themselves a pay-raise... looks like they voted themselves a pay cut and large layoffs.
The well dries up sooner or later.
And whenever there's a shortfall, the fatcats will only threaten to fire cops and teachers -- nevereverever 6-figure administrators or other non-productive positions -- only teachers and cops.

Sure, SS. nice attempt to spin it. Walker got caught with his pants down and his buns up...."C'mon Koch do a Reagan on my ass"--
As for Walker's comparing his slimeball union-busting move with Reagan's shameless firing of the air traffic controllers, well, we know now all sorts of things about Reagan that should properly shock us. Like that he was senile from the get go, and that he was a total criminal--running guns and drugs to fund death squads--and that he had NO personal friends, and that he ended his public career in a witness box lying under oath against serious charges. And of course that his economic policies of "neo-liberalism" and deregulation have led to biggest financial catastrophe in history. Yeah you forgot that.

You can't seem to get it through your ever-thickening skull that I have nothing but for disdain for Limbaugh and Co., and Fox News gets deleted from my remote, since last I saw (many years ago), it was unwatchable -- and probably hasn't improved any.
Nope, the fact that overregulation caused the mortgage meltdown can be quite easily verified by cracking a history book and applying a modicum of common sense (have an adult help you with the "common sense" part).
Seems to me banks/lending institutions were doing just fine for about... oh, say 150+ years deciding who was a good credit risk and who wasn't -- it was actually crucial to their profitability. Enter the Libbies who believe that with enough laws and taxation, we can all be just a little bit more equal...
And after 150+ years of relatively smooth sailing, the "little bit more equal" crowd managed to smash the system to smithereens in about 10 years.
This is FACT -- despite the revisionist history that the socialists/freeloaders (sup LTS) spew from their holes.
Giving Freddie and Fannie the deep-six would be a great way to bolster long-term stability in the housing/construction markets.

INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indiana deputy attorney general "is no longer employed" by the state after Mother Jones magazine reported he tweeted that police should use live ammunition against Wisconsin labor protesters, the attorney general's office said Wednesday.
The magazine reported Wednesday that Jeffrey Cox responded "Use live ammunition" to a Saturday night posting on its Twitter account that said riot police could sweep protesters out of the Wisconsin capitol, where thousands have been protesting a bill that would strip public employees of collective bargaining rights.
Cox also referred to the protesters as "thugs physically threatening legally-elected state legislators & governor" and said "You're damn right I advocate deadly force," according to the magazine. He later told an Indianapolis television station the comments were intended to be satirical.

Rep. Michael Capuano (D-Mass.) fired up a group of union members in Boston with a speech urging them to work down in the trenches to fend off limits to workers' rights like those proposed in Wisconsin.
"I’m proud to be here with people who understand that it’s more than just sending an email to get you going," Capuano said, according to the Statehouse News. "Every once and awhile you need to get out on the streets and get a little bloody when necessary."

I feel sorry for you, you poor, misguided fuck.
Someone is trying to implement a "lord and serf" dynamic, alright. On this, you are correct.
But the wannabe "lords" are people who took positions of little-to-no-benefit to society, whose vision is to ultimately have the half of the people who actually produce something of tangible benefit to society give up over half of what they rightfully earned, to support their half of the population that they've deemed needs to be paid to keep a watchful eye on the other half.
And on top of that nonsense, they're now demanding their "right" to extort a larger percentage of the Productive Half's income as they see fit.
So, you're partially right -- there is a concentrated effort to create a lords-and-serfs system... the "lords" want to get paid (at a higher rate than the serfs, of course) to produce nothing, but rather tell the serfs what where and when they should produce the goods and services that generate the revenue that enables the lords to even exist.
It's not their money to decide what to do with -- that belongs to everyone else, and they should feel rather blessed that The People are generous enough to offer them a non-productive job in the first place.
