DOD awards Boeing $30+ billion KC-X Tanker contract

Post by Screw_Michigan »

Score one for organized labor, bitches. Allabamer, you can go fuck yourself.

If those faggy Frogs actually thought they going to get this contract, they were fucking shitting themselves. Like the DOD was going to give all that money and all those jobs to an illegally-subsidized European firm. Please.

EADS' chances for winning this contract went down faster than Sean O'Keefe on a flight in the Alaskan wilderness.

Boeing wins major contract to supply new aerial refueling tankers

The Pentagon announced Thursday that it has selected Boeing to supply a new generation of aerial refueling tankers in a deal worth more than $30 billion.

"Boeing was a clear winner," Deputy Defense Secretary William Lynn said after Secretary of the Air Force Michael Donley announced that the U.S. plane manufacturer had won the years-long competition over its European archrival.

Donley said Boeing beat out European Aeronautic Defence and Space (EADS), to provide 179 tankers in the first phase of the program to replace the aerial refueling fleet. He indicated that both companies met all 372 mandatory requirements of the contract but that Boeing submitted the lower bid.

The tanker is to be designated the KC-46A, and the first 18 planes are to be delivered by 2017, Donley said.

"This was a spirited competition, with both offerers acquitting themselves well," he told a Pentagon news conference. Now, he said, "we hope all parties . . . will respect the decision and allow this important procurement to proceed unimpeded." The award "represents a long-overdue start to a much-needed program," he said.

The competition for the contract was marked by bitter recriminations and extensive advertising campaigns by both sides that smacked of negative ads in a political campaign.

The initial contract is for engineering and manufacturing development and is valued at $3.5 billion, Donley said. The overall contract for the first phase is worth "over $30 billion," he said.

What are you complaining about? That's a mere 167 million per flying gas station. I'm sure that couldn't be spent any better.

It's a good score for Boeing and as it should be, but it had nothing whatthefuckever to do with organized labor though they will be a beneficiary.

Two years ago, this contract was going to the Airbus consortium and I was livid. Glad to see somebodies woke the hell up and kept the money at home.

As an old KC-135 crewhand, this is sorta' nostagic. Those bitches were sweet. I can't imagine how sad it will be for the fucks who manned B-52s when they finally mothball those warhorses.

I might have told the story of going to my olf buddy's USAF retirement (I must be getting old), and right outside the door when we walked out, they were firing up 2 KC135Rs, a short stone's throw away...

very fucking manly. Pounds on the sternum (similar to playing golf at Colewood here in Portland, where one of the tee boxes backs up to the staging area at the Air NG base, so you're standing at the back of the F-15 engines while trying to hit the ball).

This contract is tremendous news for my employment-challenged (worse than most other places) town. Much/most/almost all of Boeing's machining is done here (and the machinists' union has stuck their tail between their legs in recent years).
I got 99 problems but the 'vid ain't one

I'm sure they could get it down to 5 years by eliminating coffee breaks.

Kicking your own ass must be a passion for you:

http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/boein ... /19214693/

The 787 program has been delayed, at least in part, BECAUSE of union-organized strikes against Boeing. Boeing opened the 787 fuselage assembly plant in South Carolina because of union shutdowns and threats of shutdowns. The employees at the South Carolina plant overwhelmingly voted not to unionize. Which plant do you suppose will be more productive and get to make more of the 787's in the future? Take your time.
Congratulations on a textbook kicking of your own ass....

The strike lasted a total of 53 days. The 787 is about 1000 days late. Yep, that strike was the majority reason for the delay. :meds:

And I hate to break this to you, but Boeing management wanted the strike for a reason I'll get to in a second.

As someone who routine engages in fellatio with Big Business, I'm sure you're taking Boeing management's cock in your mouth by holding up South Carolina as an example of better manufacturing. The truth is that the purchase of the Charleston plant was an admission of failure. That plant was making parts for the 787 before Boeing purchased it from Vought. But they were totally fucking the job up. Boeing sent lots of their people (union) from Seattle to Charleston to help pull their head out of their asses. Even after that Vought was still fucking up royally. So Boeing purchased the plant as a way of gaining control of the manufacturing process. And since that time they've yet to get things in order (a good amount of the latest delays have been due to parts requiring rework in Everett after being fucked up by the good old non-union workers in SC). And I can tell you from personal knowledge that they're still pulling their heads out of their asses to this day.

They've also sent work overseas to suppliers that are non-union. This has caused additional delays (both in getting parts & reworking them after getting them). At one point Boeing was worried about these delays in getting parts from their suppliers because there are clauses in contracts with their customers that lowers the price of the purchase if delivery is delayed. However, there was an exception to the late fines if it met a particular circumstance. One of those exceptions was delays caused by labor disputes. So here we have Boeing management facing delivery delay fines and still waiting for parts from their suppliers. You really think that management didn't force the strike to avoid fines & catch up? If not, I've got a bridge to sell you.

Moving work away from union people to those stooges that don't know their asses from a hole in the ground might have saved some upfront labor costs, but it's cost them royally in delay fines & rework costs. Pretty much all aerospace manufacturing experts agree that Boeing screwed the pooch by outsourcing so much work. And even Boeing management has partially admitted as such.

Try reading up on a subject before confirming your ignorance to everyone, counselor.

"The fundamental design and technologies of the 787 remain sound," Scott Carson, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said in a release at the time. "However, we continue to be challenged by start-up issues in our factory and in our extended global supply-chain."

Plus, your beloved union filed a NLRB complaint against Boeing alleging that the 2009 purchase of the SC plant was retaliation for strikes.
For clarification...while I work in the aerospace industry, I don't work for Boeing. So no, that isn't my union (my employer doesn't have a union).

Vought-SC was royally fucking up their 787 work. Why would they want to acquire a unit that produces poor work?
No mention of the need to cure a poor workmanship problem. Your are completely wrong, as usual.

But go ahead & keep sucking the cock of Boeing management. After all, they would never tell a lie.

Sincerely,
The corporate management that said the 787 would not be delayed any longer at the Paris Air Show, then announced the following week a significant delay.

yup.

sounds like uncle sam may be getting bent over on this one. the tanker is basically just a flying bus. no stealth, no ridiculous offensive capabilities. actually, maybe it does have a little somethin' on board to defend itself, but, nothing like the JSF.
