Amazingly there is yet another GOP sex scandal in Western NY involving an elected Republican and a woman. Note to mvscal, make sure the kid doesn't off Mr. Vogel. Things could get awkward.

For Bob Neusatz, the emotional wreckage began with the brutal stabbing death of his wife of nearly 30 years, Monica.

As if the burden of that loss was not enough, then came the realization that the person charged with his wife's killing was his 23-year-old son Kurt, who had battled schizophrenia for six years.

About three weeks after the Sept. 29, 2010, slaying in the family's Greece home, police told Neusatz that there had been a bevy of calls — literally dozens— between his wife and Greece Town Supervisor John Auberger. Neusatz tried to create an innocent rationale for the calls: His wife was, after all, a "phoneaholic" who talked to everybody. And the couple did have a 10-year passing acquaintance with Auberger.

"She was on the phone all the time," Neusatz said in an interview this week with the Democrat and Chronicle. "I was hoping he was just a really good friend."

Still, he was surprised by the sheer number of calls, including three — one that was 40 minutes — the day before the homicide.

Nearly four months passed and, after persistent phone calls from Neusatz and urging from Greece Police Chief Todd Baxter, Auberger agreed to meet with Neusatz.

Baxter said Friday that he did urge the two to talk. "I told Mr. Auberger that Mr. Neusatz had some questions that law enforcement couldn't answer," Baxter said.

Auberger and Neusatz met one-on-one on Feb. 12, a Saturday morning when Town Hall was empty and several weeks after the Democrat and Chronicle had filed a Freedom of Information request for Auberger's phone logs and calendar — items that were received in a highly redacted form.

At that meeting, Neusatz said, Auberger admitted that he had been having an affair with Monica for 18 months.
