Libya declares "cease fire" after No Fly Zone imposed
Imagine that.
So I guess if the no fly zone had been declared a week or more ago a few more 'freedom fighters' might still be alive.
Nice job, Obama. It took France and Britain to twist your arm into going along with this and you know they couldn't squeeze a drop without say so from the U.S.
Better late than never, I always say.

This is a headfake, IMO. He's not very far from closing this thing out. By offering a "ceasefire," he buys himself time to move up troops, resupply and make proper tactical arrangements. I think it would be foolish to believe that Mo would be willing to negotiate with rebels especially when he has the upper hand.
When he moves, it will be in overwhelming force and the fight will be over long before the Euros get around to doing anything about it. At least, that's what I would do if I were a power crazed Arab dictator.

Oh boy, is this GREAT!?!
Re: Libya declares "cease fire" after No Fly Zone imposed
Of course this UN established no-fly zone is a direct violation of its own charter and further proof that "international law" is a complete joke.
Article 2, Section 7 of the UN Charter:
Article 2, Section 7 of the UN Charter:
Nothing contained in the present Charter shall authorize the United Nations to intervene in matters which are essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of any state or shall require the Members to submit such matters to settlement under the present Charter; but this principle shall not prejudice the application of enforcement measures under Chapter Vll.

Ceasefires have to be agreed though, you can't just say 'time out!' like in the NFL.
Anyway he's not Arab anymore, he grew dreads, put on a beaded mu-mu so apparently he's black. Looking forward to an exciting desert war classic, not that boring, fake shitty one elsewhere.

What he said.
The Colonel has way too big an ego to let this slide...
And BTW -- after 41 years of running the joint, you'd think he would have promoted himself from colonel to general by now.

Oh, and I guess the Gaddafi forces have killed about 25 people in the last couple of hours.
April 1st came a little early in Libya.

Hmmm. I wonder when our lazy, fucked up niggger Pres__nt is going to get around to requesting "specific statutory authorization" in order to introduce US armed forces into potential hostilities as he is required to do under the War Powers Resolution. Maybe he'll look into it when he gets back from his Brazilian vacation. He really needed a break. Playing golf and going to press dinners is tough work. Or maybe he'll just say, "Fuck it," like Billigula did in Kosovo.
Evidently both domestic and international law only apply when American interests are at stake.

April 1st came a little early in Libya.
Tanks and heavy artillery rained shells on to the coastal city of 660,000, where hours earlier the streets had been filled with people celebrating wildly the news of the UN Security Council vote.
"The bombardment started about two or three hours ago and it has continued until now," said Saadoun al-Misurati, a member of the anti-Gaddafi movement. An unspecified number were reported to have been killed or wounded.

Is there/has there ever been a world conflict you assholes haven't demanded American intervention in?
Re: Libya declares "cease fire" after No Fly Zone imposed
It only makes sense, after ten years of being bogged down with inconclusive results, there's an opportunity to bring 2% of world production into the western market, keep the Chinese out and maintain a genuine sense of moral high ground. Britain and France recognised this fairly early on, I think. It's being offered up on a silver platter, I'm surprised at the dithering.
Re: Libya declares "cease fire" after No Fly Zone imposed
Crude oil is sold in London and New York...that's it. There is no "western market." There is no "keeping the Chinese out." The market is global.Dr_Phibes wrote:It only makes sense, after ten years of being bogged down with inconclusive results, there's an opportunity to bring 2% of world production into the western market, keep the Chinese out and maintain a genuine sense of moral high ground. As far as who is working Libya's fields and profiting from those sales, that would be BP.

He's talking about Brazil dumbass. You seriously think Libya is 2% of the world's population?mvscal wrote:Crude oil is sold in London and New York...that's it. There is no "western market." Chinese foreign energy policy is directed towards Africa and you spend an enormous amount of energy to disrupt them.. In an abstract sense, de-nationalise Libya's industry, get yourself in there and there's a huge potential for market growth at relatively little expense.mvscal wrote: There is no "western market." I realise that Garrison Keillor and 'Calling All Pets' are dragging down the US economy and have to be dealt with urgently, I'm just thinking of the welfare of the speculators.
Re: Libya declares "cease fire" after No Fly Zone imposed
The Chinese aren't in Libya. The Italians and British are the ones operating Libya's fields (specifically Eni SpA and BP).Dr_Phibes wrote:Chinese foreign energy policy is directed towards Africa and you spend an enormous amount of energy to disrupt them.. Seriously, with multi-national Arab unrest, the economic ripple effect of glowing Japs and $100 oil, how does that dude not see now as a horrible time to appear detached?mvscal wrote:Hmmm. And when your country's tourism industry is on life support, how about taking your 9-figure vacation in your own country, jackass.

1. He doesn't give a fuck.
2. He has realized he is in so far over his head that he has just given up.
3. Things are going exactly according to plan as far is he is concerned. After all he did assure us that energy costs would "necessarily skyrocket" if he was elected.
