Isn't acrylic primer the only primer needed for drywall? That primer and then just regular paint.
(this is way ahead of the game...I'm just curious)

Yup, the cheapass PVA, aka "drywall primer." The cheaper the better... key word being "cheap." There's places to save money, and there's places not to.

Assuming you're texturing (darn good idea for many reasons, but after a greenhorn mud-job, becomes an even better one), broadcast the texture first (again, not a bad idea to thin down the texture mud with some of the PVA, although not necessary on new drywall, but it will suck up a little less primer when you prime, and dry up a little harder. If you're fixing up existing shit and texturing over a painted surface or wallpaper, or whatever, it then becomes an extremely good idea to mix PVA into the texture... and even on the new stuff, here's a neat trick -- if you thin down the texture mud, which you probably want to do (experiment a little, depends on a few things, mostly what sort of pattern you're looking for), mix in a little bit of some shitty old bright colored paint, which can be found in most people's garage -- a little color makes it a lot easier to see what you've put on, rather than seeing the grey-on-grey.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but...

...my comrade is going to take smackaholic's advice.

He met up with a new neighbour. Old Italian dude tradesman (semi-retired) is going to be doing this. I didn't meet the guy when I popped over this morning, but it sounds like he knows what he's doing. Just wants to be paid an hourly wage and whatever is needed to finish every thing...sky light too. Nothing fancy. He's done work in the 'hood for other neighbours and everyone knows his family.

Oh well, I guess my dreams of being Mr. Fixit are over. I'll just go back to what I know...namely, running tards.

hold on a second here. i don't recall you mentioning anything about tile or masonry work.

surely there's some old french canuck in the area, or do you anglo canucks let them in? cause in these parts, it's pretty much a law that all sheetrockers are french canuck and tile/masonry is a guinea racket. of course the fukking messicans are kinda taking it over everywhere. those sumbitches can sheetrock an entire house for like materials and a 30 pack of natti light.
