This is more CBB-related but figured I'd get more attention over here. I'm flying down to Houston Friday for the FF, one of my good high school friends is an assistant on the VCU staff. Just looking for some advice from some of you Texas guys (Lefty, Indy, Go Coogs...) as I haven't spent much time in H-town.
I think we are staying close to the team (we have no details at this point) but I imagine we will be downtown right around Reliant. Is it relatively easy to get around town using public transpo (taxis, metro train, etc) or is a rental car absolutely necessary? Also looking for some good local steakhouses & burger joints or any other recommendations if you got 'em.
Much appreciated, will try to have some PET up in this place next week sometime :)

If you are staying downtown, you can take the MetroRail to Reliant. It is easy and you won't have to park. It is $2.50 round trip from downtown. The trains go every 10-15 minutes. The best Steak house to me is Vic and Anthony's. There is another great place called Pesce off of Kirby. The Dover Sole is awesome.
It is a good week to be in Houston. The weather should be in the 80's during the day and in the low 60's at night. Enjoy yourself!

I personally recommend the Striphouse over Vic and Anthony's. It's cheaper and a little more laid back. The steak is just as good. Yeah, to and from Reliant, take the rail. It's easy and cheap.
I highly recommend you take in some Mexican food while you're here. Take a cab to the original Ninfa's on Navigation. It's about 3 minutes from downtown and the fajitas are out of this world. They also have some killer margaritas. Don't let the exterior surroundings fool you into thinking the place is a dump. It may be located in the 2nd Ward, but the food, service and atmosphere are 2nd to none.

Re: Houston Insiders
Wish I could help ya out, but I never spent much time hanging out in Houston for the nightlife. I grew up an hour from there, and after college, I moved to Dallas. My whole young life, Houston was a fucking dump and I hated it. Since then, I've gone back a couple times. They cleaned up downtown quite a bit to my surprise and it almost looks like a place I could consider living in if I were single w/o kids.

Thanks fellas, gonna try to hit up a few of these places. Taking off in the morning, depending on whether VCU makes the NC game I might stick around H-town until Tuesday. Be back with some pics, hopefully.
