Okay, anyone checked out this HBO mini-series that was supposedly too hot to handle for HBO? Well fuck all, whatever juicy chunks of history swept under the rug that you might have hoped would be revealed...are still hidden. To save you the time, I'll give you the basic run down. The old man, Joe, is well played but is basically a caricature of the real patriarch. The chosen son, Joe jr. is briefly played as a smug prick who was born for politics. Jack and Bobby are basically canonized as saints, nothing sleazy, 'cept Jack fucking around (which is somehow minimized and regarded as "immaturity"), while Frank Sinatra and Marylin Monroe are completely thrown under the bus as completely reckless, stupid, and trouble causing fools. The drug use by Jack and Jackie is rather eye-popping, but dealt with as a cautionary episode which they get through together, making their relationship stronger (pause to vomit). LBJ is so spot on it's as though the real guy was photoshopped. Hoover is a bastard but not a lunatic drag queen blackmailer like in real life. Curtis LeMay is properly insane and blundering, but his name is never mentioned ("Tell the general"...etc) And of course the whole eight-part series folds up and rots as Lee Harvey Oswald is shamelessly portrayed as the lone assassin.

Some stuff they left out:

--Bobby was in fact competing with both Jack and the old man in their private sex olympics. And that included not only his fucking Marylin--and he having to break it off, not Jack, but that he was the true love of Jackie's life--she having been basically abandoned by Jack. Bobby was fucking her a lot.

--Israel had Jack assassinated

So, skip it and save some time. I wish I had. :doh:

Frank maybe, but not Marylin--at least not nearly as the bimbo image would suggest. Suffice to say the Frank of this production is unrecognizable, and the Marylin is a blubbering joke--similar to Monica Lewinsky. I was slightly mistaken on the Bobby fucking Jackie aspect of the real Camelot. In the final part 8 it's implied pretty clearly that he was banging the bony gold digger. Karma really is a mutha. :wink:
