No word on if he fired Gordon Gee before quitting. Paging Lloyd Carr.

RACK

That was quite the bombshell to wake up to this morning. tOSU didn't have the balls to let him go because he had them by the balls. It's hard to find guys that win legitimately anymore so I'm not going to single him out like he's only one to do something like this. The guy is MichiganFan's mortal enemy so there's probably a lot of schadenfreude flowing in the murder mitten today. College sports is filthy but what's worse is letting the made men skate. Yeah, he was going to serve a suspension along with his players there's just too much smoke coming from his camp and to see that school sit idly by and let it happen because he's such a swell fella. The guy is a phony and nobody up here is the slightest bit sad to see him leave with his tail tucked between his legs. Good riddance!

Sucks...but he made his bed...I have been a huge critic from a football standpoint...personally the witchhunt just doesn't do it for me with anyone...if there is something and it is true then be punished plain and simple...
he could have left to distance himself from the University knowing what he did was wrong??? Not sure...but rest assured the current squad will roll into A Squared punk the weasels and the camera will pan to Flounder on that Michigan sideline with a look of what the fuck just happened and Michigan fan will be gripping for the nearest shower rod...

I think that before someone like CUM takes the job, ohio state is going to hve to see what the ncaa deals them. The precedent set with USCs punishment for "should have known" and 1 player is going to sting when it is confirmed that ohio state did know and its at least 25 players

You'll have your full squad come November and even with a rookie coach on your sideline, I still don't like Michigan's chances in Hoke's first year even with it in Ann Arbor. I would hope to not see another year of watching them roll over and die as the Bucks roll up a multiple score win on them. I don't know much of Fickell's coaching chops...definitely remember him as a player...typical hard-nosed defensive guy. Northwestern has done fairly well with Pat Fitzgerald. Who knows...

Re: Sweatervest Quits
Schmick I know you hope that everyone gets punished as bad as USC...but some fact checking here:
1) Selling shit wasn't a violation until about 2007 I believe. In fact NINE UGA Players sold SEC Championship Rings in 2003...the rule at the time was as long as you got fair market value...the players were suspended then re-instated by the NCAA after appeal...why? Because the rule was interpreted differently across the landscape...FAIL #1
2) They named what 9 new players or some shit? Well how about some substantiation to go along with it?
3) OSU self reported, and the 5 players suspended 5 games (1 game tacked on for lying)...what exactly did USC do while Reggie was living the high life out there? Thumbed their noses at the NCAA...
so maybe some reading comprehension, etc?
Look if you break a rule, you get punished...the 5 players are suspended and further investigation into TP...so be it...what comes out of it comes out of it...but I am not going to go the cry baby sissy faggot route like you...I can't believe you coach kids with such a massive coin purse and no spine...take the medicine handed down and STFU...

[vomitting in my mouth]Finally, you make a good point.[/vomitting in my mouth] This is why O$U is using an interim for a whole year I believe. They want to see how the NCAA is going to finalize their punishment before they make a run at a big name. Fickel is just the patsy for now, I believe. If O$U gets U$Ced, Fickel will probably take the reigns for the entire punishment period.SoCalTrjn wrote:I think that before someone like CUM takes the job, ohio state is going to hve to see what the ncaa deals them.

If you think about it, this isn't all that different than Stanford and Madoff's scams.
I'm all about personal accountability, but in the end regulatory and compliance failed again.
Well, what about the players? They were just doing what their predecessors did; get some ink for some autographed photos and a sweet ride for a very low price. Sure, the ethical and moral standards are jacked up, but we all knew that already.
Well, what about the coach? He is supposed to win games at nearly all costs, but do it within all these fucked up guidelines. But he can't do it on his own. That is where checks and balances come in to play, right?
Well, what about compliance and regulatory oversight? They make sure this shady activity is held to a bare minimum and make sure the coach sticks to what he does best. And that is winning games.
Tressel is a shady little fuck, no doubt, but this isn't all on him. The compliance department screwed the pooch on this one, but it was Tressel who had to fall on the sword. Hmm, its a little peculiar the program had Tressel's back the last couple of weeks leading up to yesterday's news of Tressel's resignation. I'm thinking someone higher up knew of Tressel's little "sweep under the rug" job he pulled a while back and tried to keep it that way. It didn't work out, so they gave Tressel the option to resign with money being dealt to him under the table as long as he doesn’t say shit to anybody about anyone else knowing of his dirty deed. That's my conspiracy theory anyways.
This is where I agree with poptart from a thread before the 2010 season started. College football is flawed because of stories like this one and others. Shit, Cam Newton walks away scot free of any wrong doing because of what a booster and his dad were doing behind Auburn's back. Yet, Cam still chose to attend Auburn and that changed the outcome of the season. If no money was involved, then where does Cam go? If it were a school HE chose, is it Auburn; or perhaps another school? If so, does that school go to the BCS championship instead of Auburn? Who knows?
This shit is fucked.

Shoalzie...who knows who they will have...
Luke is a typical defensive minded guy...in your face, young, aggressive (hopefully he doesnt' go all Mike Gundy in pressers and shit)...I like his style...it will remain to be seen if they lets Bollman call the offense or bring on someone...
Well here is a question...memorabilia sales weren't illegal until about 2007...Based on what happened with the UGA kids...so anything happening before then COULD technically be thrown out...am I thinking about that correctly? Since then...the FIVE kids that they have dirt on have been SUSPENDED...not sure why schmick can't wrap his head around that but then again it is what it is...
whatever punishment comes down the pike hey we take it like men...not spineless whiny cunts like West Coasters...

the osu compliance department has self-reported something like 350 secondary infractions in the last ?? years. it seems like a lot but it's mostly shit like coaches giving rides to players and other inconsequential stuff like that. gives the impression that the department is both super transparent and super up in their players' arses that they run an extremely clean program. either their players turn on stealth mode when traveling between the tattoo parlors and car dealerships or their "assiduous" compliance standards is a deliberate attempt at smoke and mirrors.Well, what about compliance and regulatory oversight? They make sure this shady activity is held to a bare minimum and make sure the coach sticks to what he does best. And that is winning games.

and the SI article offered nothing SUBSTANTIAL...ok so they named kids current and back to 2003...prior to 2007 this was not a violation...see 2003 Bulldogs, Georgia...they sold NINE SEC Championship Rings...were suspended but then re-instated due to the NCAA rule at the time (you could sell stuff for fair market value) and being interpreted in different ways...
why am I not shocked...this article was supposed to blow the top off...it didn't...maybe I am missing something, maybe I am not...but if you have actual proof...show it and whomever is deemed the rule breaker they PAY the price...I am not going to whine, cry, bitch and moan about punishment...whatever is handed down is handed down...period...

I think "The Senator" was an appropriate nickname. He's as sleazy as any politician out there. The Clarett and Baker scandals were further evidence that Tressel was, at best, woefully ignorant of questionable behavior by his players and not aggressive enough in preventing it. At worst, he was a conduit for improper benefits, as Clarett alleged. The latter interpretation is suggested by a story that has long circulated among college coaches and was confirmed to SI by a former colleague of Tressel's from Earle Bruce's staff at Ohio State in the mid-1980s. One of Tressel's duties then was to organize and run the Buckeyes' summer camp. Most of the young players who attended it would never play college football, but a few were top prospects whom Ohio State was recruiting. At the end of camp, attendees bought tickets to a raffle with prizes such as cleats and a jersey. According to his fellow assistant, Tressel rigged the raffle so that the elite prospects won -- a potential violation of NCAA rules. Says the former colleague, who asked not to be identified because he still has ties to the Ohio State community, "In the morning he would read the Bible with another coach. Then, in the afternoon, he would go out and cheat kids who had probably saved up money from mowing lawns to buy those raffle tickets. That's Jim Tressel."

USC players were busted in 1997 for taking some of the Nike stuff that was provided to players during camp and returning it to a Nike Town, gaining store credit and using it to buy some other Nike stuff.
the ncaa can not hold USC to one set of standards and everyone else to lower ones.
The difference is that the head coach at OSU knew and there is concrete evidence that he was informed of what was going on and still he allowed the players to play the entire season. Save the self reporting bullshit, Tressell was OSU and Tressell knew but did not report what was going on. At USC a position coach was supposed to have been told what went on during a 2 minute cel phone call that happened at 2 am after the player had already left the program. As for high life, Bush was living in the athletic dorm and driving a 10 year old chevy sedan, not a Cadillac like Pryor and not several different cars like Pryor.
like it or not USC and the Pac 12 are going to make sure that the ncaa hammers OSU harder than they hammered USC since the evidence and amount of players involved is more damning in OSUs case. If the ncaa attempts to go easier on OSU there will be law suits out the ass and the ncaa will have to defend its biases to congress in a fight to hold on to its non profit status.
Part of USCs compliance department, made up of former FBI agents, were hired by Haden to dig up dirt on every other program as he felt the best boost to USCs case is to prove to the ncaa that they were not a rogue program but in fact are less guilty than many others.

Settle down, troll. O$U will get hammered. It won't take 5 years, but they will get hammered and rightfully so. I said U$C would get hammered and they did. O$U will get theirs. I'm guessing it will take 12-18 months before the NCAA hands down their ruling. O$U is cooperating at a minimum whereas U$C played "catch me if you can." And yes, I think it will be about the same (because of cooperation) or worse than U$C's punishment. And I think the O$U contingent here will handle it much better than you have. They'll get their comeuppance. Just be patient. We had to wait for 5 fucking years to shut you up. That failed miserably for us though as it has simply made you open your trap more. Usually I scrollwheel your drivel. Time to get back to that.

I liked that Pryor showed up at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center yesterday in his brand new Nissan 350Z, registered to his mother, of course.
I'd say he'll be another JaKlondike, but he won't even make that kind of money to lose.

Re: Sweatervest Quits
If SI was able to kick over a few rocks with regard to the tattoo parlor, then how much wrong doing do you think is going on as a whole?
I mean, what if you had wire taps, surveillance teams, undercover used car salesman at your disposal. How much wrong doing would be discovered at Ohio State? Hell, not just Ohio State, but every other D1 MC school out there.
This falls back to regulatory oversight. When FINRA and/or the SEC conducted their audits on Madoff and Stanford during all those years of wrong doing, they didn't dig deep enough. I worked for my father-in-law at his broker-dealer and investment Advisor Company up until the Madoff scandal was uncovered. When FINRA did their audits on our office prior to the discovery of Madoff cooking his numbers, I was like, "That's it?" I asked my father-in-law why they didn't bother looking at this or reviewing that or making copies of this document. The audit wasn't very thorough at all. He told me, "Well, David, we're just that good with our paperwork." Uh huh.
I no longer work for my father-in-law, but I asked him how his audit went down this year. He gave me this look as if someone jammed a three foot long dildo up his ass and said, "Toughest audit I've ever been through." I asked him if it was because FINRA had egg on their face from the Madoff/Stanford findings and now he was seeing the outfall from it. He exclaimed that is exactly the reason the audit was so difficult.
The point I’m trying to make is that we all know self-policing in the private sector has never worked very well. Ohio State’s compliance department didn’t do their job by properly investigating what had unfolded back in December. So, what about the people (NCAA) watching over Ohio State’s compliance department? Oh, now they’re getting their shit together and making moves. It’s a typical knee-jerk reaction. I mean, this shit about the tattoo parlor seems so out there in the open that all it would take was a little proletarian-like sleuth work to catch these players red-handed. It’s not like they were discrete in their dealings with this Rife character. Don’t get me wrong, Ohio State needs their pee-pee slapped, but so does the NCAA. We live in a day in age where technology can prevent shit like this from happening. The NCAA is a fucking joke.

At what point do these compliance offices start questioning the cars that these kids are driving? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that a kid from Janette, PA probably shouldn't be driving around 8 different high end cars when his family doesn't have the money to pay for one of them.
And this isn't just an OSU issue. I remember seeing Plaxico Burress and Sedrick Irvine riding around in cars that were $50K each. Doesn't someone in these offices raise their eyebrows just slightly when TJ Duckett comes in to register a brand new Escalade?

Exactly. Everyone cheats. I know this. I just think if you get caught, you should be nailed big time. Hell, when I was in school, I went to a lot of parties that had football players as I roomed with a football player and a golfer so I went to a lot of their parties. Dante Hall always showed up in an Escalade or a Corvette or some other expensive car.Killian wrote:At what point do these compliance offices start questioning the cars that these kids are driving?
