Zuckerberg's sister takes aim at internet bullies

Facebook's marketing director and sister of founder Mark Zuckerberg has called for an end to online anonymity to help stop cyber-bullying.

Randi Zuckerberg said internet users would "behave a lot better" if people were forced to use their real names when communicating on the online. "I think anonymity on the internet has to go away," she said during a panel discussion on social media hosted by Marie Claire magazine.

"I think people hide behind anonymity and they feel like they can say whatever they want behind closed doors." Ms Zuckerberg added that the end of online anonymity could reduce harassment and "trolling" on the web.

The proposals put forward by Ms Zuckerberg echo similar statements by the former head of Google, Eric Schmidt. Mr Schmidt has called online anonymity "dangerous" and predicted governments will eventually demand that people use their names for all online activity....

Yeah, real names. What could possibly go wrong?

What a dumb bitch. Using real names MAY deter a little bit of "online bullying," but it's also going to increase the threat of "real life" interaction. It's a little easier to track down a Fred Smith than a shutyomouth. Personally, I'd rather have someone call me a dumbass on the internet than dial up my employer.

i don't have a problem with a website requiring you to use your real name AT THEIR SITE. i have a huge problem with some meddlesome cunt telling me this needs to be SOP throughout the interwebs.

and to the pathetic cunt that said they need to use their interweb nic on the google site as it is pretty much their identity...
kill yourself. you suck.

it's real fukking simple folks. it all comes down to not telling others what to do.

you want annonymity, come to a shithole like this and stay away from the board (real)name droppers.

want to force a website to accept you as "dorksnorkler69"? GFY

True.

People like R. Zuckerman are not interested in protecting people from bullies, anyway.
They don't give two shits.

They are interested in controlling ---> so that they can then exploit, people.

Wouldn't it be terrible if somebody blew her head off or she got hit by cement truck or something?

And this beauty from the republican fascists:

Internet providers would be forced to keep logs of their customers' activities for one year--in case police want to review them in the future--under legislation that a U.S. House of Representatives committee approved today.

The 19 to 10 vote represents a victory for conservative Republicans, who made data retention their first major technology initiative after last fall's elections, and the Justice Department officials who have quietly lobbied for the sweeping new requirements, a development first reported by CNET.

It represents "a data bank of every digital act by every American" that would "let us find out where every single American visited Web sites," said Rep. Zoe Lofgren of California, who led Democratic opposition to the bill....
