We know. Heaven forbid you actually root for your alma mater.
Why would someone change who they root for based simply on where they spent 4 years compared to with who they rooted for their whole life? The bigger bitch move is to give up on the team you always rooted for. Don't you think it would have been easier being an MSU fan over the past 15 years?
i agree. i laugh at people who think i'm not "a real OU fan" because i didn't go to school there (i did take a couple summer classes in HS). asshats on the OU homer boards from Pawhuska, Oklahoma who went to OU (maybe almost went to OSU).....is telling you you aren't a "real Sooner". i went OU home games for 12 years starting at the age of 5. as i've tediously documented just moments ago, my uncle played for OU and my dad walked-on to the basketball team. granted it's Vandy, but a lifetime of being a Sooner is not going to be outweighed by 4 years of my life in Nashville. i went to a Tulane-Vandy game my first week there....Norman High games were more lively. a lot less drunk guys in ties and blazers at NHS games.....and not as many sundresses (bonus for Vandy-Tulane)...but hey.

i went to grad school at CU and have worked there for almost a decade. they sign my paychecks. i helped start the college radio station here. all kinds of stuff. i live about 3/4 mile from Folsom Field. i want OU to crush CU like there's no tomorrow. every time. no hesitation. now, since CU is in the Pac....i might try this "2nd favorite team" idea....though, i'll never get over some choice aspects of CU fan myopia/stupidity.

no. not like now. it's a little crappy these days but better than most. you should check out Johnny Trash's show on the weekends. you'd like that. no sweat if you don't make the effort. he used to work at this great store (when there were those)....guy most likely to play Blue Cheer or the Urinals or that.

regular playlists on the actual station now are all animal collective and stuff that sounds like early bowie, Nick Cage, or SY, to me. i tried to buy them Big Star in the late 90's. old guy. at least it exists for kids who aren't pounding beers at Frat Party X.. when i was a kid in Norman, KVOU played like Squeeze, the Clash, Split Enz, and Elvis Costello one summer in the early 80's....changed my life before they went back to NPR and MTV hits and Classical.

anyway, used to be the old CU station was only audible in the dorms since the transmitter was so small. and it was a crap station with a couple kids who were playing let's lynch the landlord and tour spiel.

at Vandy, they had one of the better stations in the South...in "those days". great station but more favoritism and a bunch of southern dandies playing their hometown REM sound-a-like bands. i tried a SST show and they didn't like it as a freshman. outside UGA, best station in the south....allegedly.

did you mean Nick Cave or John Cage... or Nick Cage if he put out an album titled "Sudden Freak Out".

at least it exists for kids who aren't pounding beers at Frat Party X.
so its for the kids who are pounding beers at indie party x.

i often grumble over kids today and how easy it is to dig up an old 45 in mp3 form on some blog. i think of the mid-missouri thrift stores i drove to in hopes of finding rare albums that are a few mouse clicks away now.

but

things may be very different now for a budding audiophile. its been 16 years since I was a college radio music director, and those blue cheer records are 16 years further from a kid today.

I think he's finally run.

How do you think that conversation went?

Je…TheJON: “Hey honey, how was work?”
Ashleigh: “I’m a lawyer, how do you think it was. It was long and exhausting. And what was that charge I saw on our account for some offshore poker site?”
Je…TheJON: “That? Oh, nothing. Just had to ante up some more money. I’m about to hit a hot streak, I can feel it!”
Ashleigh: “Stay off the internet Je…TheJON! We’ve been through this, you only get in trouble when you get on the computer!”
Je…TheJON: “Yeah, about that…”

<----I can't lie about this. Rack you, Screwey, for sticking to your alma mater rather than switching to the powerhouse.

However, I have a rooting interest in Texas because my dad went there and I grew up sporting the Longhorn gear he would buy for me for Jesus' b-day. Didn't really become a fan of the Co'o"gs"'' until I was actually attending classes there.

As for Je...or JON, I'm not here to defend the guy, but I'm certain this is a norm at almost every CFB board in the world wide web. There are plenty of people who feel the need to troll in order to gain acceptance among the group of people who actually attended and/or graduated from the big players such as Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, OU, Notre Dame, etc.. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if there are a couple others on this board who are just as fraudulent as Je...err JON with regard to "fitting in".

Tulsa alum could be posing as OU fan or UAB guy could be posing as Alabama fan. It's not nearly as bad as being an alum of the direct rival school, but its still trolling nevertheless. I have to admit though in Je...err JON's case his alum's in state rival is a player in BTPCFB which isn't the same you can say for his beloved Iowa State. Not much of that scenario out there outside of Iowa/Iowa State. I can only think of a select few.

Oregon-Oregon State..maybe?
SMU-TCU...maybe?
Vandy-Tennessee...is that really Tennessee's biggest rival?
Georgia-Georgia Tech...although some Dawg alums would argue it's Florida
Boise St.-Idaho
Colorado-Colorado St.

I think rooting for Texas and going to Texas ATM is a lot more different than in Je...errr JON's case. Iowa State is terrible, so in order for him to have interest in football, he had to root for a school that was successful (well sort of successful). He liked Iowa growing up, so it was a clear cut choice for him. Still doesn't make it right, but I can see his reasoning behind it. I know I'd never do it though. It just doesn't feel right.

Even though I am a CU grad, I'm gonna have to agree with Coogs and stick up for Killian here. Some of you act like you'd never even heard of college football before you enrolled for your first semester of classes. I was already a CU fan for life before I even graduated from grade school, let alone high school. Didn't even have any intention of going there after HS. I started at UC-Riverside, but that wasn't much of a conflict, since the Highlanders weren't even a 1-A team (I don't even think they're 1-AA). I even spent three semesters at UNL before I wound up in Boulder, but you'd better believe the thought of becoming a Husker fan never once crossed my mind. I sat in the student section wearing my black & gold with pride. The fact that I happened to graduate from the school that fields my favorite CFB team is really more a happy coincidence than anything.

I also have a Masters from ASU (prestigious, I know) and I love it here in Tempe, but you'd never catch me in fucking Sun Devils gear, even before they shared a conference with CU.

I don't think going to a different school than the one you root for makes you any less of a fan. The only line I'll draw is that you need to be an alum or current student if you want to refer to your favorite team as "we."

Mike, no one is saying anything about Killian here. We're talking about Jon. The one who claimed to go to Iowa and actually went to Iowa state. Killian, and others here, have been truthful about where their rooting interests lie vs. Where they actually went to school.

Yeah, I realize JON is the main topic, but Screw took a swipe at Killian back on page 2, so that's what I was referencing. Did JON actually claim to have gone to Iowa or did we all just assume? Either way, he should've come clean about being an ISU grad a long time ago.

BTW, I was on vacation all last week with limited interweb access, so I missed the whole drama. Can you or someone else PM me to fill in the blanks?

Personally, I think the whole "personal info" thing gets blown out of proportion. You could spend 5-10 minutes digging in the music forum if you wanted to figure out my full name and a photo of me, along with other info. But I'm not afraid to put my real name/face behind what I say. I doubt you guys could come up with anything harsher than the random idiots who comment on music blogs. I suppose I'd feel differently if my family got dragged into it though. Good thing I'm not married...

Meh. I like both of you guys. I enjoy talking music/writing with him and I do have a ton of respect for his loyalty to the Broncos. I just happen to disagree with him that you have some sort of obligation to cheer for MSU just because you went there. They have your tuition and you have a degree. Simple business transaction. Nobody "owes" it to their school to cheer for their sports teams, outside of the student-athletes themselves.

Just one of those things where you have different long-term goals. She wanted kids. I didn't. Eventually, she realized she was wasting her time waiting for my cold, cold heart to melt on that particular issue, so we amicably parted ways. She is indeed a really nice gal and I still keep in touch with her. She just bought a house with her current beau (finance?), so I'm sure she'll get her babies soon enough.

for the realz. didn't realize we got to set criteria for things other people genuinely care about, especially considering the person who started this "discussion" based his childhood rooting interests on hating the teams the people around him liked and his adult interests on his unemployment check. not like we're talking about bandwagoners here.

JeNoj's 10-year narrative has been that he's rooted for iowa all his life because his family were all big iowa fans. could overlook graduating from iowa state since maybe they have a world-class HR program or something, but then again, he has passed himself off as an iowa grad, going on about tailgating and all the biz. who knows, maybe he went for a semester or two before transferring, but everything he's ever written has suggested otherwise. guessing he just partied there a couple times. probably shot the last of his credibility (if there were any left after all those lead pipe locks) with his "i'm full-time poker superstar" act, but seems as if he's been working for the same company since graduating THE iowa state university in 2003.

despite all that, i'm willing to bet his ronald mcdonald story is 100% verifiable truth.

I swear he linked us up to his Team Hasselhoff webpage long ago. It was Iowa intramural flag football. He went on and on about how he was the QB and they were kicking ass and taking names. It was almost toejamesque.

wouldn't toejamesque mean JeNoj's kid was the one playing intramural football, which explains why he confused the team's success for his own?

i distinctly remember it being iowa intramurals but only vaguely recall the webpage.

I know he opined on many occasions about the social scene at Iowa and how it was the tits and that's why the Iowa football players showed up on the police blotter more than UF players.
