Re: 5 greatest bands in Rock History!
One of the reasons I started this thread was to foster an appreciation for music in general, expecially rock n roll and classic rock, which, by the way, for me, has been THE genre of music I most love.
The 5 bands I listed arent necessarily the best, BUT, that being said, ALl 5 have SWAGGER and critical acclaim. and, I thought it would be a nice choice, plus, the mere fact that all 5 hail from england, and all 5 were influenced by american rock n roll.
Music is a deep part of all of our lives, in fact, without music, the suicide rate would go up ten fold all around the world.
Music is the very fabric of our day to day living, I might add, that a man without music, isnt really a man at all, just a soulless zombie with nothing to live for, except eating the flesh of others.
SO, go on and proudly blast your music on your way to work, let the music play on play on, LISTEN like today is your last day on earth!!!!

Re: 5 greatest bands in Rock History!
sorry I didnt get back to you sooner, I was enjoying a mouthfull of pussy, you sissy cocksucker. That being said, sure, there are other bands which could be included on any list of the all time greatest bands. BUT, in all honesty, the five bands I listed? They take a backseat to nobody. I mean, look at the bands today? next to zeppelin? JOKE.Mikey wrote:Do you enjoy sucking dick?
Its time for the gloves to come off, and lets get down to brass tacks, no more bullshit, Led zepp kicks the shit outta any band today, I know, Ive heard them all. I dont need to be nice or politically correct. Your favorite band is a gay sissy band next to zeppelin, THERE, I said it, the gloves are off, no need to play nice here, this is a hard dose of reality for you guys who think that todays' shit compares to the mighty Led.
LOOK, you can continue to kid yourselves, BUT, when the dust settles, I'm right, and my list is absolutely correct.

If you intend to foster an appreciation of music in general, you might want to reference something other than dudes in tight pants showing off their cocks. There aren't and never have been any "geniuses" in rock music. It has always been popular tripe for the masses.bradhusker wrote:One of the reasons I started this thread was to foster an appreciation for music in general, expecially rock n roll and classic rock, which, by the way, for me, has been THE genre of music I most love.
Bach died 261 years ago and his music is still being performed and will be for another 261. Do you really think anybody will give even the slightest bit of fuck about any band on your list 250 years from now?
Pop music is ephemeral. There have been pop favorites in every era since humans began beating rocks together. Nobody listens to them anymore, though.

what you say does apply to most pop music. no one will give a fukk about britney or motley crue in 200 years. hell, no one cares about them now.mvscal wrote:If you intend to foster an appreciation of music in general, you might want to reference something other than dudes in tight pants showing off their cocks. Led Zeppelin hasn't been an active entity since 1980, yet there are kids born in 1995 who right now are sparking one up and listening to Dazed & Confused. Same goes for Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles...smackaholic wrote:what you say does apply to most pop music. no one will give a fukk about britney or motley crue in 200 years. hell, no one cares about them now. zep is different. they raised the bar a few notches. and yes, jimmy page is a fukking genius.
Not so much for The Bay City Rollers, The Archies, Peaches and Herb...
Methinks that is what mvscal is struggling to comprehend.

There will never be anyone as good as zep or floyd at writing "spark one up" music. But, i'll bet more than one has been sparked up to Bach or Mozart.

mvscal,
your last quote has got to be without a doubt, the most CLUELESS thing ive ever come across !!! and, Im being kind here.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
The reason why we are still listenning and enjoying J s Bach and Ludwig Van and Motzart is because they were great!
I promise you, the shitty stuff from 1589 and 1641 and 1722 etc.. is long forgotten.
SAME THING TODAY, you think kids today are downloading peaches and herb? You think someone is downloading leo sayer?
or how bout Debbie boone and her classic, "you light up my life"? No one is downloading that tripe!!!
Garbage is garbage, and YES, 200 years from now, Kids starting up bands will be warming up to Led zeppelin! Because to ANYONE who loves ROCK, Zepp always has and always will kick ass!!
I noticed how you tried to call led zeppelin "POP" music. This tells me that you are one stupid fuck, Led zeppelin could NEVER be included in the genre called "POP", thats reserved for faggotts like michael Jackson.
You obviously dont know a fuckin thing about music if you put zep into the genre called "POP", Led Zeppelin has always beeen rock n roll or now, CLASSIC ROCK, even heavy metal and blues, but most notably, "CLASSIC ROCK".
AND YES, Jimmy page and robert Plant and John Paul Jones and John Bonham together as the unit called Led Zeppelin are fuckin genius'.
ANYONE who can create music such as they did, deserves the term "genius", dumbass.
What does the term "genius" imply? simple, those men could create music that literally hundreds of thousands or even millions could not touch.
Do you know how many people take up guitar or drums or bass? And they try their entire lives to create something that is pure fuckin amazing? and yet they come away frustrated and bitter? Some will go on and still love music, OTHERS, like you, will bash and ridicule elvis and led zeppelin. THE REASON? Its called zero self-esteem.
Because you tried and failed to become something in the music world, and, since you failed miserably, in order to make yourself feel better? You go after and try to knock down the GIANTS of the industry like elvis and the beatles and led zeppelin.
However, it doesnt work, because in the end, we arent losers like you, SO, YES, 200 years from now, Led Zeppelin will still be kicking ass.
YOU? worm food.

Re: 5 greatest bands in Rock History!
Not only is he struggling to understand, he is totally clueless as well, he called zeppelin "POP" music? Led zeppelin was clearly never pop music, they didnt even care about the pop charts, they were concerned with making serious music, and the "album" was their canvas.BSmack wrote:Led Zeppelin hasn't been an active entity since 1980, yet there are kids born in 1995 who right now are sparking one up and listening to Dazed & Confused. Clearly they belong to rock n roll or blues and heavy metal, but most notably, we call that genre, "classic rock", because that is what it so clearly is. its rock music that is so fuckin great, that it must be preceeded by the word "classic".
Michael Jackson, the famous pedophile faggott, he belongs in the genre called "pop", see the HUGE difference here?
ITS plain as day, the faggotts music is clearly "POP", while the GODS of ROCK, are clearly "classic rock". its so simple, that even a shitzu or pug could understand, but, not mvscal?
NO one today is downloading danny bonaduce and the partridge family? No one saves Barrry manilow's "daybreak" to their I pod. Manilow was figured out, he's a homosexual jewish grandmother, nowadays selling chicken soup recipes online.
Dont come in here and try to dis-respect the HAMMER OF THE GODS!! All that does is make you look like someone in need of serious treatment.

LZ was most definitely pop music throughout the 70s, as were the beatles and stones.
I guess you could say the beatles were more "pop" than LZ, but they were both "pop music" in their day.
What is pop music?
Pretty simple. Pop music is popular music, aka, the stuff most people are listening to. Today "pop music" has a bad name because of the shit young folks in general listen to. I was in high school during Zep's heyday. Pretty much every boy, well white boy, anyhoo, wore a LZ tee shirt to school every day. They were g0ds and very much "pop".

Not a huge Police fan but I did listen to their debut album for the first time the other day and was impressed. Much, much better than that commercial BS Sting churned out later. Pearl Jam's cover of Driven to Tears is epic as well.Sudden Sam wrote: She gives me shit for listening to Zappa and Captain Beefheart, and for not recalling more than a combined 20 minutes of the hundreds of concerts I went to in the 70s.

Let me respectfully dis=agree with you, AND HERES WHY!
It does NOT matter if something is popular, to me, TOP 40 is popular, I understand why you want to call Led Zeppelin pop music, because their music was indeed popular, and it sold millions, HOWEVER, that being said, there is a HUGE difference between "ROCK" and "POP", even in the 1970's. SORRY SMACK, BUT, there is a HUGE difference here.
Barry manilow selling millions of copies of "copacabana" or "this ones for you", or "I write the songs", debbie boone singing, "you light up my life", or, the idiot who sang, "Pina Colada" , it may have well been "penis alotta" THE point being is this,
THATS POP, ya follow me here? there is a HUGE difference between the tripe I just listed, and ANYTHING from led zepp.
IF you cant tell the difference between the "POP" such as "I can see clearly now", or "saturday night", and Led zeppelin's "in my time of dying", you need serious help. Led zepp may have been hugely popular, YES! BUT, that doesnt change the fact that their music is pure unadulterated rock n roll.
there is a CLEAR difference here between the POP of the 70's and the rock of led zepp, if you are having trouble distinguishing the two, give me a call, I know a good treatment center.

Re: 5 greatest bands in Rock History!
sorry to disagree, BUT, pop music is too broad a term for it to be even valid. it is strictly generic a term, because you cannot include barry manilow and leo sayer and the guy who did "pina colada" or was it "penis alotta", with ANYTHING by led zepp.
in the 70's, sure led zepp was extremely popular, selling millions and millions of records, HOWEVER, barry manilow was selling millions of his tripe too, and the guy who sang "if you like pina coladas" or "penis alotta" he was pop too.
POINT BEING? if you group that tripe and bullshit in with led zepp? you are seriously fucked up.
that tripe is known clearly as "POP" music, all that crap is clearly pop music. Led zeppelin, on the other hand is clearly rock,
CLEARLY hard rock and blues, I'll even call it heavy metal or metal, BUT, to call zepp POP? not on your life.
No serious person worth their salt, could ever be accused of calling led zeppelin pop music. AGAIN, I may be splitting hairs here, BUT GOOD FOE ME, for having the balls to make a clear and honest distinction here.
BECAUSE, at the end of the day, brutal honesty is what led zeppelin was all about, in your face cock n balls swagger, wether you liked them or not, their huge cock was in your face, and you had to suck it and swallow, regardless if you liked it or not.
nice,

from wiki:
pop music is an evolving category consisting of what happens to be popular, particularly amoung young people at the time. Elvis was pop from the 50-70s. the beatles were pop in the 60s, the stones were from the 60-80s. the stones are still together, but, they are no longer considered pop, because they nobody listens to their new stuff. benny goodman was pop in the 30s. if there had been radio and recording technology, bach would have been pop in the 18th century. zep was indeed pop in the 70s. just because barry manilow was as well is irrelevant.
it is not a particular type of music.
there it is dumbfukk.Pop music (a term that originally derives from an abbreviation of "popular") is usually understood to be commercially recorded music, often oriented towards a youth market, usually consisting of relatively short, simple songs utilizing technological innovations to produce new variations on existing themes. Pop music has absorbed influences from most other forms of popular music, but as a genre is particularly associated with the rock and roll and later rock style.[citation needed]

thats correct, its not a particular type of music, SO, when you label it as such, you sound stupid.smackaholic wrote:from wiki:

What was popular at the time, has nothing to do with the grand scheme of things, intelligent posters would never use the term POP, and led zepp in the same sentence, you do, thus I consider you a vulgarian.
THE mere fact that you cant see where I am going with this tells me that you are an imbicile.
I was well aware of what the term "popular " music meant, ok simpleton?
AGAIN, in the grand scheme of things, those tripe manilow songs and other tripe pop songs from the 70's ARE STILL called pop, HOWEVER, Led zepp is no longer called POP, ya understand? catch my drift? or am I being obtuse? I might have to cast you down with the sodomites if you fail to get it?
Led zeppelin is forever known as classic rock, period.
P.s if you fail to recognize this fact, then I will forever consider you an emotional retard.

I've been called worse by better.
Would you say that the beatles or stones were pop?
Did you read that definition i put up?
Your definition means shit. The accepted definition is what it is.
How old are you?
Were you listening to top 40 stations in the 70s? I did and i can assure you that stairway and quite a few other popular zep tunes were played on these stations. Many great zep tunes weren't as these were more of what you'd hear on "album rock" stations. For those tunes, what you are saying makes some sense.

more from wiki:
brad, you do realize there are these things called sub genres, yes? Rock n Roll, Classic Rock, etc., are all sub genres of the broader pop genre. You really are a colossal dumbfuck. In the 1950s, recording companies took blues-influenced rock and roll (for example Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley) and rockabilly (for example Carl Perkins and Buddy Holly) and promoted them as pop music. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, record companies took folk music bands and musicians and helped them to create a new type of music called folk rock or acid rock. Folk rock and acid rock mixed folk music, blues and rock and roll (for example The Byrds and Janis Joplin). In the 1970s, record companies created several harder, louder type of blues called blues rock or heavy metal, which became a type of pop music (for example the bands Led Zeppelin and Judas Priest).

So what? That is less than a single generation. There haven't been any significant cultural or social changes in that timeframe. No cultural changes?
Culture is changing at light speed these days. Far quicker than it did in the first half of that 260 years.
I look at it this way. There are quite a few youngsters listening to LZ today. If I look back 30+ years to my high school days, I can promise you there was pretty much no one listening to what ever passed for pop music in the late 40s, which is a valid comparison.
In other words, LZ along with the beatles and a few other groups have shown tremendous staying power, compared to earlier forms of pop music. I suspect this staying power will continue. I suspect there will be high school kids listening to john bonham drum solos after you and i take our dirt nap.

Has Zappa gotten any run in this thread yet?
If "greatest" is to be measured by musicianship, he and his various bands have to get some love. Joe's garage is an absolutely stunning display of musical talent.
Pretty high on the debauchery scale as well, which kinda hurts it from a popularity view point. I am guessing that program directors 30 years ago might have had a problem with lyrcs like "don't get no jizz upon the sofa"

bsmack mentioned kids born in 1995 sparking up TODAY. in addition to civics, i'm fair at arithmetic. 1980-2011 (aka today) is 31 years.

ok, that is the most catastrophically dumb statement I have ever come across. Led zepp will be listenned to 400 years from now. NEXT, this is for smack.
I KNOW WHAT POP MUSIC IS, OK? You dont seem to get what I was trying to say. YES, when music comes out, and its popular, its a part of the pop music world, for sure. I dont debate that with you. BUT, as we move into new decades, things begin to take there place in history. FOR INSTANCE, when motzart was alive, HIS MUSIC WASNT BELOVED or considered CLASSIC. in fact, he died a penniless pauper, buried in a paupers' grave.
When "Star wars" came out, it got very mixed reviews, in fact, many critics panned it, calling it garbage and tripe. NOW, "star wars" is considered an all time classic.
When elvis presley came out in 1954, with "thats all right mama", it caused a sensation on radio stations, and, then, all his hits became the pop music sensation all across the country, by 1956, he was a national sensation. BUT, to the establishment, he was considered pure garbage. His music was called "vulgar" and disgusting by the big names, such as frank sinatra and Irving Berlin.
They called his music rancid and putrid. The grammy awards didnt even recognize rock n roll music in the 1950's.
Did you know that? there wasnt even a category for elvis' type of music, because the establishment didnt know what to make of him, they considered him a piece of shit at first.
THEN, once Frank (old blue eyes) Sinatra, once he realized that this kid could sing, and actually was a phenomenal talent, THEN frank embraced elvis as one of his, even invited him on his tv show when he got out of the army.
POINT BEING? Right now in 2011, we dont call Led zepp "pop" anymore, we may have called them POP back then, but no one does anymore. They are now called, classic rock. and thats just the way it is. Sorry to dissapoint you.
ALSO did you know what would have happened if the grammy awards had acknowledged rock n roll in 1956?
Elvis presley would have racked up more grammys than anyone in history!! thats what. Can you imagine? All those classic rock n roll hits which now have "essential" status, and the highest critical acclaim?
See we as a society dont know shit until the dust settles. everyone has opinions, and they all stink like a fresh pile of dogshit.
Thats the way things work, it takes time for people to understand and digest things before we start handing out high praise.
The opposite is also true, Remember the summer of 1977, debby boone has one of the biggest hits in pop music history? The song was "you light up my life", it was number one for god knows how long, TODAY? that song is considered a piece of absolute trash.
Remember the song "If you like pina colada"? that song was number one forever in the late 1970's, it caused a national sensation,
YET, today its ridiculed and mocked as a joke, some folks call it " if you like penis alotta" cause the song is a joke.
SEE THE DIFFERENCE? Elvis came out and was hugely popular, YET, 50 years later, elvis' catalog is critically acclaimed and given "essential " status by the foremost critics of music. "debby boone" and her huge hit are given "joke" status, and mocked and ridiculed, and considered tripe some 35 years later.
That is why I dont put much stock in "pop" music, I wait until the dust settles, and decades later, we find out what is classic and what is dumpster material.
DO you get it now? you filthy maggott cum dumpsters?
