Congrats, Van
True to form, ND shit the bed when the lights were brightest. USC OL kicked their ass all night long.

Killian, thanks, and condolences. I know it had to be thoroughly gutwrenching to endure that mess.
You're right, our O-Line certainly performed much better than I was expecting. The success of the rushing attack was a very pleasant surprise, and I don't believe Barkley was sacked all night. No complaints there. Also, Barkley and Woods had solid games.
It was when ND had the ball that this game was decided. And truth be told, we both sucked. After the first fifteen minutes, Monte Kiffin did everything possible to ensure that your guys could progress down the field without scuffing their pants. In return, your offense did everything possible to ensure that USC wouldn't be allowed to surrender their way to another embarrassing loss.
While this game wasn't nearly as poorly played as last year's abortion in the rain, it sure was no showcase for either program.
You definitely deserved better.
Here's the question now: Will this crushing loss cause ND to go into the tank for the rest of the season? Whatever they were playing for leading into this game, it's now gone. So, where will they go from here?

Van, remind me. Did you graduate from USC like I did? I forget.

Hey, it took them a year to come up with that color. Perhaps they should have spent the time on football related activities.Papa Willie wrote:Hey dude - WTF was up with that shitty gold Black & Decker Grill Paint that ND was using tonight? Seriously - that was awful!

Sorry. What, exactly, was different about ND's helmets tonight than any other night? I was too busy noticing them getting worked in the most overhyped game amongst unranked teams. Fuck you, NBC.

Actually, you got it backward. The painting of the helmets before every game was a tradition. The new helmets are no longer painted.Papa Willie wrote:As much as I dislike ND, I do respect their history. And painting their helmets up like that was strange. It was almost like they were mocking themselves.Killian wrote:Hey, it took them a year to come up with that color. Some things you just don't fuck with. The gold on ND's helmets is one of them...
Since ND's helmets are designed to represent the Golden Dome, and this was an attempt to replicate the Golden Dome more accurately, I suppose I can give ND a pass on this one. And the new helmets look better in natural light than at nighttime. Just play the damn games on Saturday afternoon, as God and GOD intended.
I do have a bigger beef with the piped-in music. I'm not complaining about the musical selections necessarily, just the fact that they're now using piped-in music. I know a lot of other schools do that, and that's fine for them, I guess. But we're Notre Dame. We're supposed to take pride in the fact that we march to the beat of a different drummer.
That said, I'm told that the players and the students enjoyed it (even though many of the selections chosen were first recorded before they were even born -- go figure). So I guess it's hear to stay.
