Re: La Russa Retires
He had powerhouse teams in Oakland for a number of years and won one title. He had power house heavily juiced teams in St. Louis and won one title. He may be number three all time in wins, but he’s number two in losses. Not a horrible manager, but hardly a great one.
Oh, and he's a vegetarian.

Re: La Russa Retires
You try and manage 259 lb juiceheads and tell them to stop doing arm curls and flexing in the clubhouse mirror because it's their turn to hit. It takes a very unique skillset.
Best steroid manager of all time hands down.

Goobs' mental DVR hasn't quite caught up with last week yet.Goober McTuber wrote:2006.ucantdoitdoggieSTyle2 wrote:Really? What year was that one title?Goober McTuber wrote:He had power house heavily juiced teams in St. Louis and won one title.
Either that or he's setting us all up for another of his brilliant comebacks.

I was assuming that this year's team was not heavily juiced. Maybe you know different?Mikey wrote:Goobs' mental DVR hasn't quite caught up with last week yet.

Re: La Russa Retires
PooHoles is the biggest question mark in the juicing department. He was on both teams.
Who else on that 83 win squad would even be suspected?

Re: La Russa Retires
i think Edmonds was a juicer
That whole Angels team he was on, before coming to St.Louis was on the shit.

Re: La Russa Retires
You can probably trade Edmonds for Holliday in that regard.

Or after MLB began testing for steroids? Epic take...

They started testing the year before. I would have thought there were still some juicers in 2006, or that the juicers who quit in 2005 still had some residual benefits from juicing, but I'll always acknowledge your expertise in this area because AP says you're a juicer. Hey, I can easily go along with the premise that La Russa won zero titles with power house heavily juiced teams in St. Louis.ucantdoitdoggieSTyle2 wrote:Or after MLB began testing for steroids? Always an epic fail... but let's continue anyways.Goober McTuber wrote:I would have thought.
Are you really singling out just STL when the Mitchell Report showed us that every team was littered with players who were using PEDs?Goober McTuber wrote:there were still some juicers in 2006, or that the juicers who quit in 2005 still had some residual benefits from juicing.
Can you name one WS winning team from 1990 -2005 who isn't suspected of have a shitload of juice monkeys on its roster?
Couple of points here, hoss. Number one: I remember the year that baseball implemented its steroid testing policy. I am not sure how this qualifies me as an expert on juicing. This just means I can successfully read and remember things. I am not sure where you fall in either of these two categories. Number two: If you are using AP as a reference for anything other than cross-dressing and being a lush, then you're on thin ice.Goober McTuber wrote:but I'll always acknowledge your expertise in this area because AP says you're a juicer.
And he was going up against teams who had just as many, if not more, 'roid boys. His time in STL was during the height of the steroid era. Again, if you actually stumble upon a relevant talking point, please let me know.Goober McTuber wrote:Hey, I can easily go along with the premise that La Russa won zero titles with power house heavily juiced teams in St. Louis.

Re: La Russa Retires
Why not francona?
Is it because his only success is in the AL?
That could be a valid reason, since managing skills are quite a bit more impotent in the NL.
