Anyway Scrote, do you have an America's Tire Center there in Mensa City? You can get 4 tires installed for under $500 and they do free rotations. While Michelins are some of the best, you might want to check out America's Tire.

I also don't buy poorly rated tires - a $100 Kelly or General may say they are a 60K tire but in reality last more along the lines of 20K. Combine that with noise and poor wet road handling and you find out cheap isn't really cheap

I got 4 new tires from NTB in September. They had a buy 2 get 2 sale on their non-cheap ass tires. I am sure the Michelins would have qualified. I needed tires towards the end of last winter, but waited 6 months for the best dealio.

The g/f did the same thing, I think from Merchant's (which is the same company as NTB/Big O/Tire Kingdom). I love their TV ads that state the buy 2 get 2 free is for "this weekend only," but it's pretty much every weekend. Sounds like a good deal, and you do end up saving a little caysh, but to get the deal you have to buy the service package, so you don't end up saving as much as it seems you should. Still, after calling around and checking online, it was the best deal available for good quality tires.

Then you go back and they replace those tires under warranty... though I've bought a lot of tires like Firestone and Cooper and never had to do that because they do indeed last as long as advertised unless you don't maintain proper air pressure.

Wags made a good point about Cooper tires.

The problem with Goodyear tires is they use a softer rubber compound and the treads wear down quickly. Remember those rain tires they used to advertise a few years ago? Those treads were gone in a few thousand miles. BF Goodrich used to make some kick ass tires for our muscles cars but we lit them up all the time when racing each other.

The last 2 sets of tires I bought were from America's Tire Co. No idea who the real manufacturer is but they are made with a harder rubber compound and they call them "Pathfinder Sport SUV" tires that I have on my 2000 Ford F-150. Those tires performed well on the ice and snow in New Jersey and last somewhere around 35,000 miles when everyone claims their tires last 60,000.

I think the Yokohama tires might be made by the same company. Goodyear and Firestone use a softer compound and those tires wear out quickly, unless they've done something different i the last 10 years.

the OL's sonata came with the MXV4s from the factory. Squeezed 40K out of them, but, really should have been replaced at about 35. They were fine, but, after doing research at a sonata owner's forum, i ended up going with a new set of kuhmos. very good reviews on this korean tire. many on that board said they were happier with the kuhmos over the michelins. not sure if they make them in poptard ville or the states. they were about 60% of the price of the michelins, 400 bucks with tax from tire rack. i have to pay tax on them as tirerack has a warehouse 15 miles from me. i drove there and picked them up to save a 50 dollar shipping fee. my local garage mounted/balanced them for about 100 bucks.
