The crowd noise fucking over the Bama defense? Bahahaha.
You'd think with all this NFL talent Bama could recruit a kicker capable of chipping it within 40 yards of the uprights.

Re: Bama vs. LSU - In game thread
Wouldn't call it a cripple fight though. These defenses are ridiculous.
Re: Bama vs. LSU - In game thread
Yep, I'm thinking these offenses would be rolling through most defenses.
Bama seems to be doing the slightly better job of controlling both lines of scrimmage, but LSU's special teams are keeping them in this thing. On top of the blocked FG attempt their punting game has been nails.

Great game so far. Alabama is losing the field position battle so far, in part because they choose to attempt field goals when they should be punting.

Helluva run after the catch by Richardson. Might have broken a couple of dback ankles with those moves.

You're showing your ignorance, 88. This is Ali vs Frazier right here.

I picked 24 total points. Starting to think that is way too much.

LSU vs Oregon would be pretty cool.88 wrote:I would like to see one of these defenses face a good PAC-1? offense.

More like the holes, if any, are closing up faster than they can get to them.88 wrote:The running backs are stopping in the holes and jumping around trying to make guys miss rather than just powering through them.

Re: Bama vs. LSU - In game thread
It's true that Bama and LSU do not have great offenses, in large part because neither team has a great qb. But they most certainly would roll up points against just about anybody else. Even if they didn't, scoring 17-21 points would be enough to beat anybody.

Huh? LSU already handed Oregon their ass, despite what Dins will try to convince you.88 wrote:I would like to see that. I think Oregon or Stanford could stand toe to toe with either of these teams. It wouldn't be 3-3 at the half.
Re: Bama vs. LSU - In game thread
I'm still thinking Stanford is the only team with a decent shot against these two. To beat them it's going to take a quick-thinking, precise QB with a right-now delivery and enough of a running game to keep these defenses honest. It's not going to be some "dual-threat" guy who roams sideline to sideline. The speed of these defenses will feast on that crap.
The problem with Stanford is their relative lack of depth and speed. They don't have a lot of major weapons to begin with, and now one of their TEs and Owusu are hurt. With concussions in successive weeks, Owusu may be done for the year. Minus any deep threats, I don't know that Stanford will be able to stretch the field enough to give Luck any breathing room.
Nonetheless, he and Stanford remain the nation's best hope for taking down the winner of this game.

Re: Bama vs. LSU - In game thread
I watched it. Oregon got owned in the trenches through 3 quarters, and lost by double digits. No need for a rematch. It was decisive. To your Pac-1 point, I would certainly rather see Stanford play the winner of this game.88 wrote:Did you watch that game?
Re: Bama vs. LSU - In game thread
Jesus Christ, these could be two of the worst offenses I've seen all year...
If these teams played Cal ten games in a row they might get a field goal... as long as Maynard wasn't allowed to throw a pass in the game.
If Maynard was allowed to throw 10 passes... Cal would probably lose by 70.
Cal just held a team that averages around 500 yards of offense and 40 something points a game to just over 200 yards and 7 points.
Stanford and Oregon would blow the doors off these two teams on a neutral field (Dallas wasn't a neutral field)

Psst... Oregon had a true freshman fumble twice for two easy TD's... and the game was played in Dallas (basically a home game for LSU)

So what? LSU is currently playing in perhaps the most electric, hostile environment I've seen all year and they're right in it.and the game was played in Dallas (basically a home game for LSU)

Re: Bama vs. LSU - In game thread
While I agree that Oregon probably wins if the game is held in Autzen with only one week to prepare for that offense, that's never going to be the case come bowl season. This year's title game is in LSU's home away from home, the Superdome, and Oregon isn't going there and beating a fast, physical SEC team that had a month to get ready for them.
Stanford might. Oregon wouldn't. Cal wouldn't even have the balls to board the plane.

Cause and effect, 88. When you play a defense like this you do things you wouldn't normally do. Why do you think Oregon, with the best rushing attack in the nation, got so tentative vs LSU?

Ummmm.... because they had 3 of their best offensive players not in the game ???
and a true freshman coughing up 2 easy TD's.
That won't happen again... trust me.
Re: Bama vs. LSU - In game thread
And why is it that when these same offenses play anyone else they have little problem dominating? Does anyone really think Bama's O-Line and Trent Richardson wouldn't be rolling right through, say, Okie St or Oregon? How many times do we need to see them destroy the Big 10 before we realize that those defenses aren't these defenses?

Ummm... the defenses aren't very good in the SEC and the correctional schools they play 4 times a year suck ???
LSU scored 16 points on Ole Miss... yes, that Ole Miss

Re: Bama vs. LSU - In game thread
What a fucking play. That was a microcosm of this game.
Re: Bama vs. LSU - In game thread
Yes, I know. I'm just making the point of what happens when Bama's offense plays elsewhere. Case in point: Michigan St. Last year's Sparty defense was considered to be fairly damn good, and Bama didn't have one of their better years. Once they played a Big 10 team in a bowl situation, though, look how easily their offense dominated.Van wrote:And why is it that when these same offenses play anyone else they have little problem dominating? Stanford stands a chance where others probably wouldn't simply because of their offense, not their defense. Their offense is different enough and precise enough to keep their own defense off the field, and they might even be able to score in the red zone.
Man, and once again LSU's punt team dramatically shifts the field. Bama's returner there cannot let that ball go over his head. Damn.

I think LSU's punter may get the game ball. Quite possibly the most boring 1 vs 2 matchup in the history of the game.

Bama was trying for the -3 yards and a cloud of dust strategy on that last drive.
