Re: Files missing or hidden
So what little info you gave, doesn't help much but:
When you search for the files, and find them, is it the same path of where you are going directly?
If you look at the location where you find them (or where you think they are), are they marked as hidden files.
Do you have your folder properties set to show hidden files (that may be why you can find them but not see them when you go there).
Is it possible that the location was moved?
Is it possible you accidentally deleted them but you had them backed up and you are finding the backed up copies?
Without seeing the results, its hard to point you in the right direction, but if you answer these questions to yourself and verify them, you may get your own answer.

Re: Files missing or hidden
example:
I play FM2012(football manager:soccer sim game), and it should be under:
c:user/sports interactive/fm2012/ etc
But if i go my files, under the user, its no where to be found. But if i search the computer, it finds the game, and it has the line, where it should be, but it is not there.
Example:
i have movies dloaded from real player. they should be in:
: user/my videos but they are not, nothing is in that file. yet, if i do a search for a movie title, it shows it in the search, and where it's located. But it is not there. It is, but it isn't!~

Re: Files missing or hidden
Are the files or folders marked hidden?
I'd check that first.
I'd check that first.

Re: Files missing or hidden
nope. not hidden
they are there, the location of where to find them does not exist, unless searched for.

Re: Files missing or hidden
Can you take one file and copy it to your desktop from the search window and than copy it back? Does it show up after you copy it to the location where its missing or does it disappear into the ether again?
Can you play the game or music or video from the search or does it give you an error once you try to run it from the search results window?
Not sure what else to test without actually being there to see it.
I'd search for virus/spyware to make sure its not somehow messing with your OS.
Its possible your drive is corrupt, possible your ntfs table is corrupt, possible that the thing between the keyboard and chair is corrupt...
Hard to say without seeing the issue.

Re: Files missing or hidden
i found an old atricle from 2009, claiming typing this in command prompt, would ensure al lthe files would become unhidden
attrib -s -h /s /d *.*
and it worked, everything is where it used to be,
