Re: Ohio State NCAA penalty
basically echoing osu and the ncaa's attitude toward this. you did get 1/3 the punishment usc did for three times the violations, but at least now precedent has been set to just claim a football program can't be held responsible when the football program breaks the rules. curious, though, that stretching will get you in more trouble than knowingly using ineligible players because you can just shift the suspensions to a more convenient time.buckeye_in_sc wrote:meh...move on...

So, I assume Oregon will receive additional scollies for paying a street agent a few bucks?
Maybe Miami should get an auto-BCS bid for 3 years.

Why didn't tOSU self-punish with the bowl ban this year? When they totally suck. Now they're banned next year when they might go 11-1 and stay home. Wisconsin thanks you for making Bucky the preseason favorite in our division. Whatever it is called.

well, yeah: a quarter of your two-deep was getting paid for wearing their osu jerseys in public while the rest of us get bowl bans if a 50-year-old engineering alum gets a speeding ticket. gene smith peter principled himself into nothing more than a slap on the wrist (scratch that: a tickle on the balls) while the decent guy you had before him - geiger? - would have demonstrated legitimate institutional remorse and you guys would have been given the SC treatment.buckeye_in_sc wrote: it's kind of comical listening/reading people melt over this...fun...

Re: Ohio State NCAA penalty
sure thing as you are the authority on all things NCAA>..well then riddle me this...
why are so many coming out and saying OSU got hit harder than they would have thought seeing as though they self-reported, cooperated, and basically did everything the NCAA said to do...just asking...
but at the end of the day at least we didn't recruit FIVE guys out of 12 you know like 50% of our team that took money and shit which pales in comparison to tats for some jerseys...but you go ahead and sit in your (ahem) ivory (ahem) tower like all michigan fans think
...you might be familiar with them? no?
but at the end of the day...I am not on the team, didn't commit any violations...and I just cheer for my alma mater...am I disgusted sure...but hey life goes on...

Re: Ohio State NCAA penalty
so many? i suppose if you limit yourself to the osu blogosphere, but then again, there's your answer. remove osu partisans from the equation and "so many" people are asking why osu got a slap on the wrist compared anyone else who ever...did anyone ever really pull the same shiz as osu?buckeye_in_sc wrote: why are so many coming out and saying OSU got hit harder than they would have thought seeing as though they self-reported, cooperated, and basically did everything the NCAA said to do...just asking...
is this really a point? you mean the team the ncaa rightfully brought the hammer down on? thanks for reiterating my point.but at the end of the day at least we didn't recruit FIVE guys out of 12 you know like 50% of our team that took money and shit which pales in comparison to tats for some jerseys...but you go ahead and sit in your (ahem) ivory (ahem) tower like all michigan fans think

and yes, i'm familiar with them enough to point out the guys taking money were spread out over a six-year period.

Re: Ohio State NCAA penalty
i have read numerous national columns on how they thought the penalities were pretty harsh...
of course cooperating with the NCAA gets you this...the lesson don't cooperate...you got a 50/50 chance of ending up like Auburn or USC...

Re: Ohio State NCAA penalty
Auburn cooperated and still got ass-raped over the Eric Ramsay/60 Minutes show.
Alabama got ass-raped in the 90's because they didn't cooperate.
It's politics, pure and simple.

Re: Ohio State NCAA penalty
yeah they brought the hammer down and rightfully so...
but comparing hundreds of thousands of dollars of impermissble benefits to tats for memorabilia is laughable at best...
look OSU cooperated and got a tougher penalty than most expected (go read some of what is out there non-OSU board related)...are you trying to tell me that everyone is FEIGNING outrage so as to make it right with the world? If so nostraMclub get me the next 5 lottery numbers please
again if I were UNC, Miami...I might be scared or I might not...funny how Jacory Harris only got a 1 game suspension for much more than just some tats...
you roll the dice with the NCAA...the biggest issue to me is the INCONSISTENCY of ruling across the board...period...look at every school that got Failure To Monitor...none ever got a bowl ban...the only charge to ever get a bowl ban is LOIC...just some drippings from past rulings, etc...
if you are outraged so be it...if you think OSU got off easy so be it...maybe you should get a job with the NCAA and clean house and stuff and make it better...

Re: Ohio State NCAA penalty
buckeye, I really don't think OSU's main crime here was the tats for memorabilia thing. If that's all it was, their self-imposed penalties would've been sufficient...sort of. No, it was Tressell's covering up of known violations. When the head coach and face of the program is lying to the NCAA, well, I don't know how much more you need before you have a clear case of LOIC. Tressell was the institution, and he was the problem. He went out of his way to play guys he knew should've been ineligible.
Compare that to one player and his family being poached by an agent who had nothing to do with USC, and this is well beyond ridiculous. Many more players were involved in the Ohio St case, an active OSU booster was involved, and the freaking head coach was the worst offender of all. So USC gets a two-year bowl ban while losing thirty schollies, and Ohio St only loses nine, to go with a mere one-year bowl ban?
Pathetic. And yeah, most of the national media is rightly saying that Ohio St got off remarkably lightly.

Re: Ohio State NCAA penalty
the problem here is that you think osu got docked for tattoos. they should have for that alone considering how widespread it was, but as van pointed out, as well as anyone who isn't busy trying to rationalize this into no big deal, the issue is the cover up. all those players who were busted for accepting extra benefits merely had their suspensions delayed a year, meaning there was still punishment for the infraction but none for the lying. (if they were fortunate enough to have been seniors last year then there would have been no suspensions at all.) if that's the precedent we're going to set here then the incentive shifts from self-reporting to buying an industrial shredder.buckeye_in_sc wrote:yeah they brought the hammer down and rightfully so...

and the whole rogue coach going off the reservation thing is completely laughable. sorry, but there are consequences for entrusting your cash cow to lying cheaters you refuse to subject to any oversight. that's the very definition of lack of institutional control.
is this even english?..are you trying to tell me that everyone is FEIGNING outrage so as to make it right with the world? If so nostraMclub get me the next 5 lottery numbers please

It's all good...
if I clowned myself so be it...
look I stated from the beginning I thought he should have been canned...or punished or both...I thought the players should have sat out the Bowl/been suspended...and when the NCAA allowed them to play...had OSU sat them anyway maybe it wouldn't have been such a PR black eye...
and for those that still throw up the he was protecting his players...bull shit...if there was even a shred of evidence that was true that the players were in danger i am sure the FBI would have come out and said so/or maybe not...but I never bought that shit...
hey they got what they got...it's on the COI and the NCAA...if people don't like it...then they can write the NCAA and all that shit...
I am just looking forward to this taxslayer.com Gator Bowl...holy fuck really

Plus I picked Florida in Pick 'Em, which makes OSU a stone-cold lock.
