Why is Tennessee doing this?

Post by SoCalTrjn »

Tennessee Volunteers wide receiver DeAnthony Arnett announced Thursday in an open letter to various news outlets that he would like to be released from his scholarship so he can transfer to be closer to his ill father in Saginaw, MI.

Arnett had 24 catches for 242 yards and two touchdowns in his freshman season this year and was considered one of the top recruits in Derek Dooley's 2011 class.

"I want to play football but I NEED to be here for my Dad and with my family...Coach Dooley, myself or anybody doesn't know what the future holds for my father. I feel that I represented the University of Tennessee the best way I can on and off the field and I feel I have earned the right to be released unconditional to all schools in Michigan."

Tennessee has responded to the request by granting Arnett his opportunity to transfer but with limitations that would preclude him from playing for the major football programs in the state of Michigan. According to Arnett, he would be allowed to transfer to a MAC program but not the Michigan Wolverines , Michigan State Spartans or any other BCS schools.

Arnett nearly committed to Michigan State.before committing to Tennessee and expressed a desire to transger to UM or MSU in his request.

Arnett even posted a photo of his ailing father on Twitter to prove the authenticity of the situation.

Imagine if USC did the same thing to Jarvis Jones or Broderick Green, the media would have a field day on Lane Kiffin yet this is going without any media attention. SEC fans have long said that Kiffin was a pile of shit, seems that he is just too good of a person to coach in the SEC since he allowed kids to go home and play for their home teams when they had personal issues. Dooley is a fucking asshole, I hope he gets hit by a car. Its not like Tennessee has Michigan or Michigan State on their schedule in the next few years.

How about taking care of your father and not worrying about school or football if it's that important to him? I mean is it so dire that he has to be at home, but not so dire that he can't play near pro level football? Just comes off shady.

Arnett's release was approved and he's going to Michigan State. Big pick-up for MSU since they'll be losing 3 senior WRs.

Who's going to throw it to him??

(This question could probably be applied to the rest of the B1G next season :? )

Absolutely...huge losses in the passing game from last year but he'll help. Sims is their leading receiver out of non-seniors...as a TE. It's going to be practically a new receiving corps next year with a new triggerman to boot.

Also, Worthy is going to announce his intentions at around 2 today. They'll keep most of their defense from this year regardless.

Andrew Maxwell has been getting groomed to be the next QB for two years. He's supposed to have better physical tools than Cousins, but obviously he's not going to replace his leadership and experience, at least not right away. If nothing else, he'll know the playbook inside and out from day one. He'll also have a stable of experienced backs and o-line to help him along.
