Oakland did break a long standing record today. They will probably hold that title for quite awhile.

Yeah, a 1 in '12 and a 2 in '13.

Oakland needs to be in the playoff and making noise in '12 and/or '13 or else the trade will have been a fail.

Part of the reason for doing the deal was to salvage this season.
THAT is a fail.

The team was 4-2 when Campbell went down.
Boller went 0-1.
Palmer went 4-5 and he was too loose with the ball.
Not good enough.

My sense in watching him was that he was pressing, trying to do too much.
It's understandable.

As soon as he arrived, McFadden, Oakland's most key player, the guy who makes everybody else's dick bigger, went down.
Then... both Raider starting receivers (and important playmakers) went down.
D. Moore missed multiple games in a row, and J. Ford, like McFadden, missed all the games, until finally playing some snaps yesterday v. SD.

Palmer, trying to find a groove at light speed with a new team, pretty well had the rug pulled out from under him.
Pretty rough go for him.

On top of all that, the Raider defense was atrocious.
HISTORICALLY bad.

Oakland pretty much needed to put 30 on the board each game just to have a shot at it.
Tough to do when your offense has been neutered by the injuries the Raiders had.

Still, Carson Palmer played well enough to win in a lot of the games.
Like yesterday.
26 pts.
28-43 for 417, 2 TDs and 1 INT.

The defense cratered ALL DAY and that's that.

Every playaction play, TT would look like he was going to sling it, but never could let it go. He was definitely scared to throw it downfield today. On the flea-flicker, Decker got behind Carr, but Tebow either never saw him or didn't want to make a mistake. His confidence is completely shot right now.

No, but their D will absolutely smother Denver, allowing for easy scoring opportunities. Plus Denver's D has given up 40+ two of their last three games. So which Denver D will show up? Add to that Tebow has gone from bad to god awful. I'm thinking something like 23-6 Pittsburgh.

The NFL is much different now than it was back in the day... when Oakland could break loose with their handful of 'sadistic penalties' a game and still get over.

There is not a great talent level disparity across the league from team to team.
When those 15 yd penalties come now, it hurts a bunch.

Oakland got hosed by the zebras over and over this year.
Same ol'.

But they also played with a glaring lack of discipline, which points to a failing on the part of the coaching staff - as well as a failing as far as the overall Oakland 'culture' is concerned.

The team still doesn't get it.

The officials bias was rampant this year. And certain teams seemed to be victims of it. Including Oakland and San Diego. Oakland improved greatly this year. And almost overcame their QB going down. Palmer did a stellar job given the obstacles he had to overcome. If I had to rate the division, I would rate Oakland, San Diego, KC, Denver in that order. I know that sounds assinine given that my bottom is in the playoffs. *shrug* I do believe penalties were a huge part of Oaklands demise. And playing their rival San Diego in the last game didn't help.

The team was out of control, I agree.

One play that really epitomized the situation was a Raider kick return in the Detroit game.
J. Boyd put a wicked crackback block on one of the Lions, but it was illegal and also unnecessary as far as opening it up for the return.
Oakland returned the kick, like 60 yds.
The return was brought back... plus the penalty tacked on.
Oakland was pinned back inside it's own 10.

The camera went to the Raider sideline, and there was Boyd, yukkin' it up and self-high-fiving over the brutal lick he just put on one of the Kittens.
And some of the other special teams 'tards were laffing, smiling, giggling alond with him.
Nevermind that he just cost his team 75 yds with a completely unnecessary illegal block.

Couldn't believe it.
But then I could.

I knew then that Hue Jackson didn't really have a handle on the team.
The correct leadership is not in place to set a knuckehead like Boyd straight.

Then, as the icing on the cake, it was J. Boyd who fugged up and allowed C. Johnson to make the long reception that led to the Lion go-ahead TD.

Rod Woodson should have hung dude up in the lockerroom by his jockstrap overnight.

But I doubt that a whole lot was made of it.
How else do you shatter the all-time penalty mark?

The head (Al) was cut off - but the chicken is still flappin' and floppin' around.

He beat the Steelers with the deep ball...crazy average of 30 yards a completion. Thomas with the craziest statline of the week...4 catches for 200+. I didn't see any progress in the intermediate routes and the more finesse throws. If he does this again in Foxboro outduels Brady and the Hoody after what we saw a few weeks ago...g0d helps us all. Between the Lions losing and this, I'm avoiding the talking head shows until the games start.

While we're talking about the jury still being out on him, the thing I'm waiting to see is how he responds to having to play the position as every other QB in the league has to play it. Meaning, facing defenses that aren't 100% stacked to stop the run, leaving Tebow with the simple task of beating nothing but wide-open man-coverage.

He faced zero pass rush pressure yesterday. He had all day to sit back there and wait for his receivers to break into the clear downfield, which is inevitably going to happen when you leave your CBs on an island with nothing but single-safety help over the top.

Basically, I want to see the guy read coverages and make quick, accurate throws into small windows while under duress, the way every other NFL QB has to. All he had to do yesterday was cherry pick a depleted Steelers defense that was begging him to throw to barely covered wide-outs. From a defensive standpoint, the only way that will work is if they're getting massive pressure on the QB. They weren't. There was no pass rush. Under those circumstances, any NFL QB will thrive.

He had a good game yesterday. Problem is, a good NFL QB cannot burp up three abortions for every good game they play, nor can they burp up three shitty quarters of football before coming up with one decent drive per game, and that has been his M.O. so far. That formula will never work, long term. He'll need to flip those numbers before he'll truly be an NFL-ready QB, week in, week out.

I am sure the worst defense in the AFC will make him look pretty good. The question is, can NE count on Dungver to fumble the game away... like they did last time.

I am wondering how much of an advantage, if any, the hiring of McDaniels gives NE this week. I realize it's a different staff with different players, but he did coach Tebow/Dungver last year.

What I want to know is why isn't Jesus helping Rivers like he helps Tebow? It seems rather bias. Rivers is a God-fearing man who is even leaving how many kids he has up to God.
