The UCLA campus is in Westwood, which is absolutely gorgeous. Westwood borders Bel Air and Brentwood and is just a short drive down Sunset Bl to the Pacific Ocean and Pacific Palisades.

Is it in L.A.? Yes. On one side it does border Wilshire Bl and Century City. All nice, high-end "L.A." areas. Is it what you apparently think of when you envision the shitty aspects of L.A.? Nope. From the moment you hit the campus and head anywhere north or west, it's paradise.

You do realize the real reason Peterson stays is because of his son and his illness right? Boise doesn't have shit outside of a hospital and the world's most renowned doctor for his son's illness. If an LA hospital hires said doctor away Peterson follows.

you mean all of the top flight doctors from around the country that have moved here don't mean shit....the fact that my personal physician was at one time one of the primary diagnosticians at Walter Reed Medical Center doesn't carry much weight....and that we have two of the top rated heart surgeons west of the Mississippi living here in Boise....that we have some of the best oncologists in the country working at the MSTI center right here in Boise....given the fact that one of my good golfing buddies is a top flight neurologist and pretty much keeps me up to date about the quality of medical care in boise, I'd say you know pretty much jack shit about this area....

and really, Petersen's son Sam was ill? you mean the brain cancer that spread to his spine that was being treated up until about 3 years ago, when it was determined that it had seemingly gone into remission....you mean that illness? and do you mean his son that's pretty much of a mainstay at practice when he can get away from school....the son that the players love and the coaches love even more....you mean that son.... and you say the doctor that quit treating him three years ago has moved to UCLA?

and when Stanford came calling (yeah that Stanford that has the fifth best medical school in the United States) Petersen opted not to take the job because the physician that had stopped treating his son was still here....

what I posted about the current condition of Petersen's son came directly from Petersen....it was at a boosters meeting when one of the audience members asked him how Sam was doing.....that was what he told the audience....I've seen Sam at the practices and by all accounts, he spends most of his free time with Chris and the team during football season.....from what I've been told by people that probably know, the physician that was treating Sam has moved away and Sam has been being evaluated/treated by the Mountain States Tumor Institute, or MSTI which is a pretty good cancer treatment center right here in Boise.....

there are lots of reasons why Petersen likes where he's at....Boise is a great place to live and his family really likes it here....I don't know that you've ever been in this area and it's not all things to everybody, but for most of the people that reside in Boise, we love this place....that's not to say that Pete is a permanent fixture here-obviously with the right kind of leverage, he could be coaching someplace else next year or the year after or whenever....but if any team thinks he can be had by just throwing wads of money at him, they're making a serious mistake....it's going to take a lot more than just money to wrest him away....

I never lived on campus in the 6 years I was at USC. I was there during the riots and I can say the area was a mess before then. Its much nicer now and I will have no problem sending both of my sons there but I can admit that the few blocks south and west of campus were shady in the 80's.

Birmingham, Memphis, Houston, Minneapolis, Tampa, and Boise were where my initial physicians suggested to me to seek the best medical treatment. I went with a surgeon and oncologist from Birmingham at UAB for obvious reasons due to my location, their comparable credentials, and survival rates.

the state board voted to approve a raise for Petersen to around 2 million/yr. which doesn't include any performance incentives....that's about a 400k/yr raise....Boise State has been proactive in raising Petersen's salary....Pete is not the kind of guy that would play the "hey I got an offer from ______ (insert university) and they said they'd pay me ____" Petersen of course was all "shucks, I don't know what to say but thanks" because that's the way he rolls....his assistants all received raises as well, which is something Petersen insists on.....

in other news, it looks like our offensive coordinator Brent Pease will be plying his talents in the SEC. He's rumored to be headed to either Florida or Alabama....more likely Florida, but he's scheduled to meet with Saban the day after the MNC game.
