All the SEC stadiums are just cookie cutter stadiums ... and lack any real history.
The SEC schools are just football factories without any
folkways.
Memorial is, has always been, and will always be, the greatest football venue ever built. Designed by possibly the greatest coach in the history of the sport (Andy Smith), this is not a matter for discussion.
And from berkeley.edu:
"California Memorial Stadium, completed in November 1923, is dedicated to University of California, Berkeley students, alumni and other Californians who lost their lives in World War I....
Designed by John Galen Howard, with co-designers G.F. Buckingham and E.E. Carpenter, the stadium is modeled after the Colosseum in Rome....
On the day of the stadium's dedication, Sproul declared: "Deep rooted in the eternal hills, this memorial to the honored dead, here devoted to the service of the living, raises its noble crown into the clear California sky and stands in simple dignity, beauty and strength."
The renovation of the most beautiful stadium in College Football ... and keeping its historical integrity is something no other school can come close to matching.
