There is a lot of shit on those racks, but, mixed in are very high end dress shirts (2-5 bucks) lots of good overcoats and suits. Finding a close to fitting suit might be a bit of a challenge and take a while, but, I promise you I could stop there on the wasy home and find a half dozen good quality like new shirts.
Remember, people with money don't wear such stuff till it's worn out. They drop it off at the SA store and get their tax write off. I have quite a few nice casual and dress shirts that I bought there for a small fraction of what people pay for a shirt at wallyworld. If it's really nice and has the right brand, the OL intercepts it and pimps it on flea bay! Fine with me. The proceeds buy a dozen more.

What about underwear?KC Scott wrote:So $20 is my target for buying dress shirts - Marshalls / TJ Maxx and Macy's all have them in that range.
As for wearing them out - the wearing isn't what does it, it's having them laundered.
I think around 20 is where I usually see them start to go to shit and then they go in our donation box.
at 20, I've also paid as much for cleaning the shirt as i did for the shirt so its into the donation pile
I can't say I'd ever consider buying a used shirt -

Re: Where's the menswear forum up in this bitch?
I have. Some of the shirts there are close to being worn out. Some aren't. It's worth it to stop in now and again to see what they have, seeing as I pass the place pretty much daily. I have a long sleeve navy blue Polo. Still looks almost like new and I've worn it 15 or 20 times. That's an 80 dollar shirt, and I havven't seen them at marshalls/TJ maxx. BTW, those are the places to get nice merrino wool socks cheap. Even I won't buy used socks. Just not enough of a savings. The OL has quite a nice little racket going buying nice clothing there and peddling it on feebay. I bought an 80s vintage North Face down parka there that appears as if it was bought off the rack in '84 placed in a plastic bag and hung in a climate controlled closet for 20+ years. Paid 30. Considered keeping it till I looked at what they were bringing on feebay. Sold it to a frenchie for 350 bucks.KC Scott wrote:So $20 is my target for buying dress shirts - Marshalls / TJ Maxx and Macy's all have them in that range.

Could you explain why buying an 80 dollar shirt for 3 dollars is moronic? Do you not wear used clothing? Are you washer challenged like your boy screwey and decide it's easier to just toss them and buy new?
Do you think giving your bidness to the SA so they can help those in need is moronic? I suspect that being a good lefty, you have no use for them and think it's gubmint's job.
Or are you just a fukking moron stuck on what others think about you and would be embarrassed if they knew you were shopping at the bum store?

As far as SA goes (or our local equivalent), yes, I give them my business. As a donor, not a customer.

I'll buy t-shirts from Salvation Army. They're less than a buck. Fine for playing basketball or working outside, or whatever. I don't see what the big deal is. They wash out the cooties beforehand, Goobs.
Re: Where's the menswear forum up in this bitch?
I buy shit at Goodwill and SA all the time. You have to go a little bit more often, but not at all unusual to see Ralph Lauren or other good brands in real good if not new in some cases. Jackets and shirts are easy to come by there.
I also hit up the vintage glass section and can usually score some good shit there. My bro in law has been teaching me the vintage glass business. You can usually buy good suit coats, sometimes the whole suit for reasonable money. Rustler jeans for $ 9.99 at Bi Mart for work pants, Wranglers on sale for $ 13. I like being able to take advantage of others vanity and need to pay high prices for clothes.
I only have to wear a suit once or twice a month so I don't wear them out very fast.

Go ahead and pay 79 bucks for that RL Polo shirt if it makes you feel a little richer.

Huh, actually shopping for ones self? Isn't that part of the reason we got married? So we don't have to shop?
The only thing I buy myself are suits, shoes, sunglasses. Everything else the wife will bring home and I just go, "yep, yep, no, yes, what the hell were you thinking?, no, yes". Then the stuff I wouldn't wear suddenly disappears. She used to bring home the latest trends and think she would eventually get me to come around, but after the "trendy" stuff was still untouched years later she gave up and now sticks with the traditional.
Not sure if getting polo shirts, t-shirts, socks, sweats, track suits, etc from the equipment room at the practice facility counts as shopping, but I do a bunch of that too.

Buying used clothing is no different that buying a used car. I will let some one else take the depreciation stick in the ass for me, and wait a few years and pick it up for cash cheap. Saw a dude driving down the road the other day in a brand new F 350..58K sticker...brand new trailer....7K..brand new excavator on it..probably 28K...I went and picked up a used excavator for my son in law the other day...he got it for 8K with 1500 hours on it. Stole it. I drove a used Peterbilt with a used low boy to get it.
Buying new is getting hosed..clothes..cars what ever.

Dorron,
I don’t think you can generally buy brand new vehicles at an 80% discount. You can do that with new clothes on a regular basis. Apples and colostomy bags, dude.

If you paid 10-16, you probably paid about what it was worth new. So, go ahead and take that 80% discount and think you got over. I will take my 97% discount actual dress up clothes which you will never find at marshalls for 15 bucks unless it's a horrible color in 'spray's size. Or it is a reject. Nothing wrong with some rejects, btu, I'll still take a non reject that may or may not have been through the wash a time or three.Goober McTuber wrote:I don't buy $79 Polo shirts, you fucking moron. Re: Where's the menswear forum up in this bitch?
Are you talking margins (retail - cost of good sold) or actual amount (times) that the cost was marked up? Most retailers multiply cost by 2-3 times what they paid for a product before putting it on their shelves. If their margin is 80%, then they're marking it up by 5 times ((20*5)-20) = 80. And that's pretty unheard of, unless you're talking 'high class' goods. Either way, your 80% markup makes very little sense.Derron wrote:Buying something where there is even the remotest chance of an 80% mark up is still getting hosed.

Next time you bother to boldface your statement for effect, do it unedited, dumbass. "sixn to ten".
Ever read one of those things where the words are horribly misspelled, but the reader reads the sentence perfectly because it's just how the brain rolls? Sixn read quickly just might be interpreted by the brain as sixteen.
I'm not implying you can't spell six. That would be more your type of cutting edge smack.
Also, hitting the reply button is not the same thing as rereading, you painfully stupid old codger.

Re: Where's the menswear forum up in this bitch?
A couple of things for the record.
1-Nothing wrong with shopping at Goodwill, or Salvation Navy or whatever. There are plenty of places to shop if you need to look as good as possible on a shoestring budget. Target, and if you are gay, H&M will be able to suit your needs. If you need to look good on a severe budget, a thrift store is only going to take care of half that issue. At best, you will come out of there looking ten years dated. Now if you don't care about how you look and you wear clothes just so you don't get arrested, Salvation ahoy homeboy. If it doesn't matter to you, no point in spending the coin.
Let's face it. If most of us have given up on life like smackaholic has given up on basic yard care or one of the main accessories to your evening outfits is a colostomy bag like Derron, we would be thrift store regulars too.
2-I don't know much in life, but I do know what I know. I know a lot of you suck at retail math. It's not your job so it's understandable. I've never jerked a guy off or fell in a supermarket so I wouldn't know the first thing that goes into how you morons make a living.

Oh yeah...........
3- Your tie should fall at the top of your belt & the width of your tie should match the lapel width of your jacket.

Re: Where's the menswear forum up in this bitch?
I have so many freaking t-shirts, it’s probably time to make another drop off at St Vincent’s. I could ship them direct to suckaholic, but they’re not XXXLs. I have a couple of good sources for new t-shirts at nominal costs.
Local liquor store occasionally gets t-shirts as part of a promo. Buy a 12-pack of Corona, get a free t-shirt. Except they take all of those promo t-shirts and display them in a shopping cart for two or three dollars apiece. I’ve currently got a couple of Coronas, a Jaegermeister, and an Old Style. I would never drink any of those products but the t-shirts are fine for yard work. I’ve acquired a nice collection of metal flasks the same way.
Then there’s the neighborhood sports bar. I run their March Madness bracket contest (usually 175-200 entries). Owners are always getting t-shirts for promos. Mine are usually free. As are all of my beers during the month of March.

Re: Where's the menswear forum up in this bitch?
I'm not much of a fashion hound and prefer wearing Wrangler jeans and a polo shirt or t-shirt whenever possible. I wear Wrangler dress pants to work and usually sport a coaching shirt or one of the school pullovers in the winter, or an occasional sweater. I wear a tie a couple of times a week, no jacket, and the tie is in a double windsor that comes down to the belt. I usually wear boots to school but will sometimes wear a pair of Nikes on game days. I used to have 4-5 suits but I've opted for a few jackets that I can mix and match with different dress pants when the occasion requires a jacket. I buy Van Heusen dress shirts at Younkers but have a lot of cheaper dress shirts that my mother-in-law used to get me for Christmas every year. They don't wear as long as the Van Heusen shirts but I don't wear them often.
I've never shopped at Goodwill or SA but my wife loads up a van full of clothes every spring (mostly hers) to donate.

Re: Where's the menswear forum up in this bitch?
I rarely "need" to look good. I am happy in jeans/polo shirts 99% of the time. Work provides shirts. Dressed up for me is khaki pants and a nice long sleeve shirt. Extremely dressed up is the same with a tie and maybe a jacket. This goes for weddings/funerals/etc. If I am that impotent at a wedding, i'll likely be in a rented tux. As for looking dated, nice high quality dress shirts have not changed a bit in 10 years. Same goes for a nice navy blazer to the best of my knowledge.R-Jack wrote:A couple of things for the record.

"we" sound gax as fukk, not that there's anything wrong with that. and i am fairly sure that having a C-bag means custom tailoring.Let's face it. I'm a little disappointed Patrick Bateman hasn't yet made an appearance in this thread.
