I laugh at trainwrecks? Well, yeah, if you mean things like pop's defense of the Book of Genesis, or anything having to do with Charlie Weis. Otherwise, no, I don't laugh at real trainwrecks, and yes, Jerry Lewis has always been gawdawful.

Can't say that I recall ever seeing Bob Hope on The Price Is Right, but then I can't say that I recall ever seeing anyone on that show. All I really remember was Bob Barker always sported that super thin mic. It kinda made him look like a smarmy pedarist.

Let me do this to clear things up for WW: I never saw the Price is Right. So I have no feelings whatsoever for Barker. I know he likes animals and he had hot chicks on the show, so I guess he's okay.

I always figured that if I ever got on that show and won something, when they showed what I could win next, I was gonna ask if the ladies were part of the prize.

Hope? The man could read real well. Never saw anybody who couldn't function without cuecards 'til I saw that guy. He came across to me as boring, not funny at all, fake.

+1. I saw him at ND once (no, I didn't pay for it, someone else bought tickets then couldn't go, so he offered a ticket to me) and there were cuecards EVERYWHERE. I could read his jokes faster than he could, so by the time he said them, they really weren't funny.

As for the Bear, the only word I could actually make out from that clip was "sir." Makes Lou Holtz look like a model of clear diction.

Of course I didn't, but I highly doubt it anyway, at least for anyone who grew up post-Richard Pryor. I suppose if someone's comparison was Charlie Chaplin, sure, Bob Hope/Bing Crosby was the height of hilarity, but to anyone under the age of, oh, Noah...not really.

So are you saying that to be funny a comedian's schtick has to be full of profanity and drug references? Don't get me wrong, I think Pryor was fucking hilarious. Humor is often based on current events and current societal mores, but there are some old time comedians with were pretty damn funny and whose stuff is still funny.

Mikey, no, in no way am I correlating humor solely with profanity and drug references. I am correlating it with the ability to make me laugh, and Bob Hope's lame, antiquated shtick had no such ability.

There are plenty of 'clean humor' comics who are funny. Cursing and going on about drugs are merely tools of the trade. By no means are they the only tools.
