Why didn't you like Bob Hope?
I've never heard anybody say an unkind word about that man.
You must be a dumbass if you didn't like him.

I've also never heard anybody say Bob Hope ever made them laugh.

Re: For the Oldsters - Bear & Joe
But you laugh at train wrecks and probably think Jerry Lewis sucked.
Dude was awesome on The Price Is Right and you know it.

Re: For the Oldsters - Bear & Joe
I laugh at trainwrecks? Well, yeah, if you mean things like pop's defense of the Book of Genesis, or anything having to do with Charlie Weis. Otherwise, no, I don't laugh at real trainwrecks, and yes, Jerry Lewis has always been gawdawful.
Can't say that I recall ever seeing Bob Hope on The Price Is Right, but then I can't say that I recall ever seeing anyone on that show. All I really remember was Bob Barker always sported that super thin mic. It kinda made him look like a smarmy pedarist.

I always figured that if I ever got on that show and won something, when they showed what I could win next, I was gonna ask if the ladies were part of the prize.Sudden Sam wrote:Now I have no idea which Bob WW is labeling me a dumbass for not liking.
Let me do this to clear things up for WW: I never saw the Price is Right. So I have no feelings whatsoever for Barker. I know he likes animals and he had hot chicks on the show, so I guess he's okay.
+1. I saw him at ND once (no, I didn't pay for it, someone else bought tickets then couldn't go, so he offered a ticket to me) and there were cuecards EVERYWHERE. I could read his jokes faster than he could, so by the time he said them, they really weren't funny.Hope? The man could read real well. Never saw anybody who couldn't function without cuecards 'til I saw that guy. He came across to me as boring, not funny at all, fake.
As for the Bear, the only word I could actually make out from that clip was "sir." Makes Lou Holtz look like a model of clear diction.

Keep in mind, Sam, I did say that I understood the word "sir." That's one more word than I usually understood whenever the Bear spoke.Sudden Sam wrote:Shit! The "Road" movies with Bing Crosby were hilarious. If you saw them in the theater.Van wrote:I've also never heard anybody say Bob Hope ever made them laugh.

Re: For the Oldsters - Bear & Joe
Of course I didn't, but I highly doubt it anyway, at least for anyone who grew up post-Richard Pryor. I suppose if someone's comparison was Charlie Chaplin, sure, Bob Hope/Bing Crosby was the height of hilarity, but to anyone under the age of, oh, Noah...not really.

Re: For the Oldsters - Bear & Joe
So are you saying that to be funny a comedian's schtick has to be full of profanity and drug references? Don't get me wrong, I think Pryor was fucking hilarious. Humor is often based on current events and current societal mores, but there are some old time comedians with were pretty damn funny and whose stuff is still funny.Van wrote:Of course I didn't, but I highly doubt it anyway, at least for anyone who grew up post-Richard Pryor. Re: For the Oldsters - Bear & Joe
Mikey, no, in no way am I correlating humor solely with profanity and drug references. I am correlating it with the ability to make me laugh, and Bob Hope's lame, antiquated shtick had no such ability.
There are plenty of 'clean humor' comics who are funny. Cursing and going on about drugs are merely tools of the trade. By no means are they the only tools.

BWAHAHAHAHAAA! What a knee slapper! No, not you, but the thought of some analytical Ben Stein lawyer type attempting vacuous one-liners on national TV to a silent audience. Make this happen.Terry in Crapchester wrote:I always figured that if I ever got on that show and won something, when they showed what I could win next, I was gonna ask if the ladies were part of the prize.

The three worst kinds of posts to read on T1B:
1. Terry trying to be funny.
2. BSmack reminiscing about his days as a young stud.
3. suckaholic trying to sound intelligent.
Honorable mention – anything whatsoever from Sirgulpaload.

I'd also grant an exception for mvscal. Check that. Not only would I grant said exception, I flat out encourage the goofy fuck to regale us with a few choice vignettes from his no-doubt-sordid past. It'd probably be borderline illegal even to read such things.

You're the guy who thought Bob Hope was a really funny guy. So I guess I should take this as a compliment.Goober McTuber wrote:The three worst kinds of posts to read on T1B:

In truth, if I were to try to get on a game show, it probably would be something like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, where at least there's a chance of winning some real money. The taxman reams you on The Price Is Right, or so I've heard.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:BWAHAHAHAHAAA! What a knee slapper! Re: For the Oldsters - Bear & Joe
The comment I made in reply to Van was that you had to see the “Road” movies in the theater. Which would put me somewhere around Wolfman’s age. A small joke, yes. Light enough to fly right over your pin-head. The first time I compliment you will be when you have the good sense to permanently log off.Terry in Crapchester wrote:You're the guy who thought Bob Hope was a really funny guy. you guys should see if you can find clips of the Bob Devaney Show. wow, talk about TV for the blue hairs and non-stop polyester sansabelt crowd.
with all respect to the great man. great coach, legend was Bob D.
put me in the Bob Hope not funny crowd. best Bob Hope was Dave Thomas doing him on SCTV.
