Bud talking tough about steroids...

Post by Shoalzie »

Why is he saying it should be tougher now? I really do like his idea of 50 games/100 games/banned for life as being the new ladder of punishment but there's no way the union goes that. The union took the current proposal because it's soft enough that these guys can screw up a few times before they really get punished.

Agree that there is no way the Player's Association goes for it, but it clearly makes them the obstructionists. It's a good political stance by Selig.
"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."

Seligs no fool. He knows the union will never agree to this. Its just another example of Bud Lite grandstanding. Baseball isnt getting toughter on steriods,Its just improving the stale act that is its drug policy. Hes telling congress " Hey look at me,Im getting tough now!No mr nice guy." Its all for show. The day I see a legit star get the hook for roids will be the day Bud Selig is ousted as commisioner.

So far with this new policy, I've really not seen much of a difference in play as far as power is concerned. Some guys are off to slow starts...I'll wait for an entire season to make judgements towards certain guys I had prior suspicions about. Three no-names have been suspended and a large number of minor leaguers have been busted. The fact that players are getting nailed for testing positive is something but I think all of us wanted to see one of the big names get popped. That's why we all wanted a tough drug-testing policy in the first place. I want to know when I go to a game, that I'm seeing legit baseball players and not freaks under the influence. I can get over the fact these guys are horribly overpaid but the fact that many of them may be cheating...that's what bugs me the most.

Latest player to be suspended: Juan Rincon (Twins reliever)

I don't know about you guys, but this is the first name I've recognized that has been announced.

I agree Shoalzie, I'm one of those people that doesn't just watch sports for purely entertainment and I also feel it's not worth watching if it's just a bunch of juiced up players in a freakish game.
