About a week ago, we marked the 40th anniversary of the worst tornado west of the Rockies. Touched down in Portland, hopped across the river, and slammed back down in Vancouver, right into a grade school.

That F4 killed 6.

Cities included in this HIGH risk area are the Wichita area as well as Oklahoma City as well as Omaha and Lincoln NE (updated @ 12:30PM)

Though the "weather" that HAS touched down here the past couple of years has trended towards Wags's neighborhood (more trailers up North of the River).

Per the local weather geeks, the rare, early High Risk warning has been issued by the SPC because of concerns these suckers might just want to try to land at night. Perfect. You won't see 'em before they decide to kill you.

I look up where the tornados are on the National Weather Service website. I see what counties are affected, and then go to radioreference.com, look up those counties and then tune in on the police, fire and ems freqs. You hear some pretty amazing and scary shit.

You have to be pretty unlucky to be in the path of a Tornado - with a hurricane, there's a hell of a lot wider swath of destruction

I'm sure the good folks of Joplin are "comforted" by your characterization that Katrina was far more devastating.
