OT: For those inclined to call lacrosse "faggotty-ass"
I know this was Truman's description of the sport a few years ago. I wonder if he'll change his mind after seeing this:
And I realize not everyone in here is a lacrosse fan. I get that, I really do. But it's one thing to say that one doesn't like lacrosse. That's strictly a subjective response based on a number of factors, none of them inherently right or wrong. It's quite another to describe lacrosse as "faggotty-ass," though. No matter your feelings about lacrosse, though, there's no denying that you have to be a tough guy to play it.
For those who wonder what happened afterward, the shot Ryan Foley took was so hard that he apparently didn't know where he was or what had just happened immediately afterward. He was taken off the field on a stretcher, but was able to give the crowd the "thumbs up" sign twice, and later it was reported that he was able to move his arms and legs, but he was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Yep. And fwiw, that move has been outlawed in college lacrosse, although based on Sam's pic, it's apparently still legal at the professional level.BSmack wrote:Gary Gait was a white guy. And he invented that shit.Sudden Sam wrote:Need to keep the black guys out.

As for black guys playing lacrosse, the really, really oldtimers (as in Wolfman/Goober/Charger Mike/Mikey/Mace/Sudden Sam old) tell me that Jim Brown actually was a better lacrosse player than he was a football player.
Footnote on Sam's pic: the goalie in the pic plays for the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse. Since m2oodles inspired a thread about our high schools awhile back, perhaps the most significant claim to fame of my high school is the fact that it is one of the few high schools in the U.S. ever to play home to a professional sports team at the highest level of play in that sport. The Rattlers were that team (what, you were expecting the NFL?) and they played at my high school for one or two seasons between being unceremoniously evicted from Frontier Field (primarily a baseball stadium) and prior to the construction of PaeTec Park, now called Sahlen's Stadium (primarily used for soccer, but also home to the Rattlers and used for a number of high school sports playoffs).

Ok, Truman, tell me exactly where Missouri formally seceded from the Union. Any time now.
And secession is treason, period. Nothing in the Constitution gives States the power to secede. Not now, and not at any time in the past.
And btw . . .
And you're right about one thing: I ain't no mvscal. I'm far more of a gentleman than he is. In fact, here I even gave you an opportunity to come correct, say, "You were right, I was wrong," and move on. Together with irrefutable proof of same, I might add. And you couldn't even do that.
Wow, just wow.

Nothing in the Constitution gives a rogue general the authority to attack a peaceful, sovereign state either. As for treason... So ALL those Southern patriots that swore an oath to protect the Confederacy and took up arms against the Fed were convicted of treason and faced a firing squad or a hangman’s noose at the cessation of hostilities, correct? Funny, that little nugget seems to have slipped past the history books. Or perhaps they were assimilated back into the fabric of this nation and took up the task of helping to rebuild her...

You don't really want to go there, now do you?
Last I checked, Orenthal James Simpson has never been convicted of murder. Yet that little fact doesn't stop any number of people from referring to him as a murderer, now does it? It's the same thing here.
And you did know that Jefferson Davis was indicted (although never tried, let alone convicted) for treason, and spent a number of years in prison as a result, didn't you? And that Robert E. Lee lost his right to vote after the war? Small potatoes compared to what could've happened, granted, but it's not entirely accurate to say that neither went completely unpunished, now is it? For that matter, Andrew Johnson's pardons may have had just a little to do with the fact that no Confederate leaders were ever convicted of treason. Call it a hunch. And of course, Presidential pardons inherently imply either guilt or a pretty strong likelihood thereof. The President doesn't go around doling out pardons to people who are completely innocent of any offense.

Well, yeah, although that wasn't the topic of this thread.
If you think Missouri formally seceded, then it's inherently obvious that I've forgotten more American history than you've ever learned.Your limited knowledge of American history and lack of writing skills as compared to mvscal’s, who happens to excel at both?
As for mvscal's writing skills, I suppose that if fifth-grade level insults are your thing, they don't come any better than mvscal. Personally, I prefer to operate on a higher intellectual plane than that.

Here, let me dumb it down for you.
If you had said something like, "Lacrosse? Sorry, not a fan," then there's nothing to call you out on. It's a subjective reaction, different from mine, but neither is inherently right or wrong. When you throw in a comment that implies that lacrosse players aren't exactly tough, it adds an element of objectivity to the discussion, and in your case, the objective comment is just plain wrong. That's the reason for that.
Still confused? I'll dumb it down for you even further with a comparison.
Even though I live in what could be considered a golf hotbed, I'm not a fan of golf, and I've said so on several occasions. That, again, is a subjective reaction, not inherently right or wrong. In response, some golf fans have made the comment that it takes skill to play golf at the level of the PGA tour players. That comment, of course, adds an element of objectivity to the discussion. If I were to refute that fact, then I would be wrong. What I have done instead is to counter with the argument that it also takes skill to play chess at the level that Garry Kasparov plays chess, but that doesn't mean that I'm about to sit down and watch one of his chess matches from start to finish.
Of course, all analogies are weak, and this is no exception. It would be pretty stupid to state or imply that it doesn't take skill to play golf at the level of someone on the PGA tour. It is exponentially more stupid, though, to state or imply that you don't have to be tough to play lacrosse.

Dins, you may want to reread Terry's post. You seem to be attributing his "trolling" comment to himself when in fact he's attributing it to Truman. In accusing Truman of trying to hide behind a thinly disguised claim of trolling, he's saying Truman offered up a white flag.

Oh, please. Most people here throw out a “faggot", "douche" or "shithead" from time to time. Mvscal seldom throws out a single derogatory term; it generally has some embellishment. For example, “pathetic fuckbag”, “brainless, worthless cumstain”, “kiddy diddling fucktard”, ”clueless, uninformed dumbfuck”, “dick snorkling tool bag”, and one of his better recent efforts, “A middle aged, dick inhaling renfaire carny with sad delusions of high school grandeur and a dream of one day publishing a glossy, coffee table photo book entitled, Rest Stop Glory Holes of the American West”.Terry in Crapchester wrote:Don't know about you, but that's about when I outgrew my obsession with calling people "faggot," "douche," "shithead," etc., etc.Goober McTuber wrote:Fifth-grade level insults?Terry in Crapchester wrote:As for mvscal's writing skills, I suppose that if fifth-grade level insults are your thing, they don't come any better than mvscal. Oh, and from your own Web link:
During the Civil War, the states of Missouri and Kentucky had competing confederate and unionist governments claiming authority over their states. Missouri's ordinance was approved by a legislative session called by Claiborne Fox Jackson, the pro-confederate governor (see Missouri secession). Kentucky's was approved by a convention of 200 people representing 65 counties of the state, but without support from the unionist state government. The Confederacy officially seated both of these states in 1862, though they were contested throughout the war.

Oh, I KNOW Missouri seceded:Terry in Crapchester wrote:If you think Missouri formally seceded, then it's inherently obvious that I've forgotten more American history than you've ever learned.
Missouri Ordinance of Secession
Whereas the Government of the United States, in the possession and under the control of a sectional party, has wantonly violated the compact originally made between said Government and the State of Missouri, by invading with hostile armies the soil of the State, attacking and making prisoners the militia while legally assembled under the State laws, forcibly occupying the State capitol, and attempting through the instrumentality of domestic traitors to usurp the State government, seizing and destroying private property, and murdering with fiendish malignity peaceable citizens, men, women, and children, together with other acts of atrocity, indicating a deep-settled hostility toward the people of Missouri and their institutions; and
Whereas the present Administration of the Government of the United States has utterly ignored the Constitution, subverted the Government as constructed and intended by its makers, and established a despotic and arbitrary power instead thereof: Now, therefore,
Be it enacted by the general assembly of the State of Missouri, That all political ties of every character new existing between the Government of the United States of America and the people and government of the State of Missouri are hereby dissolved, and the State of Missouri, resuming the sovereignty granted by compact to the said United States upon admission of said State into the Federal Union, does again take its place as a free and independent republic amongst the nations of the earth.
This act to take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
Approved, October 31, 1861.
What’s “inherently obvious” is that you have to actually learn American history before you can forget it, Ter.

No, I’m pretty sure that if I had known that comment would still have you in full melt after all this time, I might’ve been inclined to run with it, just to see if you’d eject like your pal Killian.Terry in Crapchester wrote:Translation: "I was just trolling." Here, let me dumb it down for you.
You mean this thread isn’t a pile-on of a Canadian hockey coach? And how could I have missed that whole ”I know this was Truman's description of the sport a few years ago,” you so cleverly penned in your first sentence?
It’s the reason why you’re getting your junky ass dragged up-and-down your own thread, asshat.
Even more exponentially stupid is bringing it up as a topic of discussion a whole two years after the fact and kicking your own ass in the process.Terry in Crapchester wrote:It is exponentially more stupid, though, to state or imply that you don't have to be tough to play lacrosse.

Nope, never wrestled, but then wrestling is a sport where I would expect to risk a knee injury.Terry in Crapchester wrote:You ever wrestled? I fucked up my knee pretty badly in high school wrestling. Golf? Who screws up their knee with a single golf swing? I did, but nothing that lasted. I just made sure never to do that type of swing again.
