So good ol' AG Eric Holder was in Houston to address the NAACP annual convention. As part of his speech he spoke about the new TX voter ID law that he had the Justice Department block via the Voting Rights Act. Nevermid the fact this is a copy of other states voter ID laws that Holder can't block via the Voting Rights Act. In his remarks he says, "under their law a concealed carry permit would be acceptable ID, while a school ID would not."

Uhhhh, exactly! The requirements for a CCL are more in depth than for a passport, and require showing a valid government issued photo ID. Anyone can get a school ID in about 15 minutes. A local reporter went and registered at local community college for a non credit class and had his photo ID in less than 20 minutes. He also dropped the class and will recieve a full refund, but his ID is still valid thru Dec.

Reporters covering his speech were required to show a valid government issued photo ID along with their press credentials. So it is ok to require photo ID despite the constitution ensuring the freedom of the press, but not to vote? Huh?

Why isn't Holder all over HUD and SNAP? They require photo ID's or a birth certificate and SS card if they don't have one.

At the same time as Holder's speech an 18 year old girl from San Antonio was put on the stand by the justice department to testify that the voter ID law in Texas would cause her not to be able to vote. She said under the new law she wouldn't be allowed to vote because she didn't have a DL or other acceptable photo ID. Nice story until the cross today. Turns out she had more than enough to be able to vote and there is a program in place that would provide her transportation to get a photo ID at no cost.
