He's a weird one, he's always done that. He's just about to knock you sideways, but something comes up. You'll forget about it, then he'll re-appear in two years and say he'll knock you sideways but something came up.

Take velo's post for what it is, Samuel.

He went back to our smack roots - and that will always play well.

He's also obviously been keen to your lame act of repeatedly denigrating Christians (and the message of Christ) without putting any substance into your posts at all.

I wholeheartedly disagree with the positions Felix, Van, 88, Smackie (and others) take when speaking out against the Bible, but at least I can respect the fact that they do put some thought into their keyboard.

Yes, I would certainly have something worthwhile to pass along to Mr. Zimmerman.

You, you would just pass more death along to the man, imo.

I wasn't aware that his trial was going to be moved from FL? All his defense team needs is one juror who thinks he acted within the stand your ground law. Shouldn't be difficult in FL.

Zimmerman's story makes it plain old self defense. You can't very well retreat when you're flat on your back.

The problem is, wiki ain't a dictionary. Some knucklehead sent that in and they posted it. Checking merriam-webster, dictionary.com, yourdictionary.com, nope.

"No word found."

"No listing found."

C'mon, it's just a hillbilly mangling of "in so far as"--as in "In so far as my young female cousin looked suspicious, I felt multiple cavity searches were necessary for about eight years, and then in so far has I have a tiny pecker and a fat stupid wife and nothing whatsoever going on in my pitiful existence, I got a gun and started strutting around nearby gated communities like some self-appointed fascist cop, and in so far as some black kid was strolling through the rain wearing a hoodie I took it upon myself to hassle him, insult him--and when he started to easily kick my butterball ass, I shot him right in the chest. And in so far as my dad is MOT, and Hannity is an absolute AIPAC puppet, I'm not only going to walk, but get a book deal."

Clear enough for any non-English majors?

This is a cultural phenomena I've personally encountered.

True story:

I was at the beautiful Marriot Hotel in Saratoga Springs for a holiday two years ago when suddenly, I had to go to McDonalds for lunch. I left the lobby and walked out the door and saw a helicopter landed in the parking lot, apparently someone at the hotel was sick and being airlifted out.

All the exits to the hotel parking lot were instantly blocked by volunteer fat people in pick-up trucks.

- 'Sorry can't go through, helicopter is taking off'.

- 'But I'm going for lunch. The helicopter is miles away. I won't crash into it'.

- Sorry. Have to wait'.

This happened at every road out. These people just appear out of nowhere, uncalled, at the drop of a hat.

The End

When you're staying at a beautiful Marriot hotel, why would you ever "suddenly have to" go to McDonald's for lunch?

And geez, people...

insofar in-so-far adv.

: to such an extent

One word. Not 'in so far.' It's 'insofar,' as in "Insofar as Phibes ever suddenly having to go to lunch at a shithole that's nearly always surrounded by better shitholes, well, he must have been seriously jonesing for a McRib."

I used to be disgusted and even horrified at the astonishing number of obese people walking around--every age, ethnicity. But now I've come to realize that they're all basically victims of the fast food complex--a massive corporate consortium of corn sugar, fat, and chemicals you never study in school. The worst by far is soft drinks, which are basically toxic and guaranteed to fuck up your system. And that includes one's brain function and judgement, as in the case of butterball Watch Captain. He has dropped probably thirty pounds at least since the shooting, but at the time he was teeming with high fructose sugar and processed fat from the local Burger King or whatever. Had he been home watching television while nursing a vodka and lime, he'd just be a fat loser-=-and not a moronic murderer.

It's 'Govan,' with an 'a,' and yes, I suppose he is rather winsome, isn't he? Just one more reason to like the guy. He easily could be a pretentious cock yet he's as well-humored, affable and humble as can be.

Winsome is a good thing in a master musician.

As for your two links, yep...killer. No argument from me. You can bet your ass, of course, that those guys do not share your tepid, ill-informed opinion of Govan. They know better.

Besides, as long as you stay on the "musicality" bandwagon while continung to pimp John McLaughlin, you really haven't a leg to stand on regarding Govan. He's far more lyrical and just plain musical than McLaughlin has ever been, excluding his flamenco offerings. His electric guitar work? Nails-on-a-chalkboard ragged dissonance, compared to GG.

First, the Luc and Birelli audience is a thousand or so real people who obviously have come to a wonderful concert. Tell me what venue that Gopher video is from. What, is he opening for Smegma's reunion tour--kicking off in the bass player's mother's basement? But who cares? It's the music that must stand on its own--and that childish noodling is simply not up to par with even a regulation blues player, let alone a serious fret master. Admittedly there's not much else you could offer for Gopher beyond five or six "plays like" videos ("Gopher plays Jimi") C'mon, can't you find a better example of a great guitarist that you might (for whatever curious reason) offer as a match for the great John McLaughlin? Are you related to Gopher?

As for your pissy attack on my supposed elitism, I say no--in fact common taste is very high. After all everyone likes Beethoven--perhaps not every piece, but certainly some of his music will be regarded as obviously superior by virtually every world citizen. And since Beethoven is indisputably a composer of the highest order, therefore common taste is in fact very high. Get it? Similarly, just because people actually eat junk food and soft drinks doesn't mean they wouldn't appreciate healthy food prepared by a great chef. And just because some guitar fans listen and watch the gnashing noodling of Gopher doesn't mean he's really any good or that he could draw flies.

I have no idea where that gig was, other than it was apparently in Bordeaux, France.

Obviously he's played much larger gigs, particularly during his stint with Asia, and did you happen to notice the size of the crowd in your longer Sylvain Luc clip? You can literally hear individuals applauding, there are so few people in attendance.

And still your argument holds no water, as it's rife with hypocrisy. The size of the audience or the overall popularity of the artist in no way defines his excellence. Highly popular anything is more often than not an appeal to the lowest common denominator, which is why McDonald's is more popular than <insert any other restaurant>, NASCAR trumps F1, America's Biggest Loser kicks ratings ass compared to any PBS programming, Slipknot sells more records and draws larger audiences than Sylvain Luc, Guthrie Govan and John McLaughlin combined...and you're just a fucking poser who can't seem to keep his phony personas straight.

Also, tell your boy Luc to ditch those gawdawful Godin shallow-body hybrids. They sound absolutely dead, even amplified. Since he's using a piezo anyway, there's no reason he can't play a real acoustic or a real electric. Biréli Lagrène made him sound like an auto-tuned corpse. Dude's a great player, but his tone is just worthless.

Oh, and a "regulation blues player" could handle what Govan does?

Okeydokey. Well, since I watched both your clips to the end, including the hour-and-a-half one, I can't help but feel compelled to return the favor...

There ya go, a full concert of The Fellowship (the band he plays with at his weekly Thursday night pub-gig in Chelmsford, England) from one of his Tone Merchant clinics in SoCal. Chicken pickin', slide, rock, funk, blues, fusion, jazz. Once the sax player joins them around halfway through, it becomes straight jazz the rest of way. (And no "Licks Library" plays-like-Jeff Beck bits. )

Yeah, good look finding another person on the planet who could so effortlessly cover that much ground.

I only wish I could find the same thing from those pub gigs back home. For those he uses his ES335 during the jazz pieces, which he's not about to take to clinics around the globe. They took down the one clip I really wanted you to see. There are still poorly-filmed bits and pieces floating around, but I can no longer locate the well-filmed ones including the 335.

You are on meth, aren't you? my argument is simply that because Beethoven is admittedly a composer of the highest level, and everyone basically likes his music, then therefore common taste is actually quite high. you've not seemed even to notice let alone offer any sort of rational reply to this deceptive truth. Gopher truly sucks ass on every level--just tedious shredding of Jeff Beck riffs except there's nothing resembling a real tune or composition. More than a minute of any section is painful. I share your disgust with all things Godin, however, though Luc is so scary good (musically, Van) that he pulls it off.

Just one problem with your little theory. In point of fact everyone doesn't basically like his music. Sure, people pay lip-service to liking it so as not to be thought musically unsophisticated, but the reality is that with the exceptions of the short, easily recognizable stanzas from "Moonlight Sonata," "Ode to Joy" and his Fifth Symphony—and just those short stanzas, not the entire pieces—the vast majority of today's music-listening public views Beethoven's work as elevator music best served up as a cure for insomnia.

They like the parts that'll fit as a ringtone on their iPhones, and that's it.

Don't believe me? Try putting on a concert of Beethoven's music. See whether you can sell his music to today's listeners. Unless Katy Perry or Kanye West is performing it, good luck.
Gopher truly sucks ass on every level--just tedious shredding of Jeff Beck riffs except there's nothing resembling a real tune or composition.
You clearly wouldn't know a Jeff Beck riff if your life depended on it.

Yeah, never mind.

Yes, he does...needlessly so. He could play all the exact same things on a real guitar and sound so much better.

You're really an idiot, regardless of your liking guitar music. Of course everyone likes Beethoven, and not just because they think they should. Granted, most folks aren't familiar with most of his music beyond the popular pieces you mention, but the musical genius is consistent beneath all of it and if people are sat down comfortably with good sound, they'll like and love it--except for some French. You remain oblivious to the spiritual component of real music--as opposed to the entirely artificial wangling of Gopher, etc. As for Beck, of course Gopher isn't playing actual verbatim riffs, just the basic overall approach--and that's all he does, a one style constant shred fest, a bushel of nervous blistering and very boring fireworks. He's for fifteen-year-olds with no soul, basically. So...are you related to Gopher? Why the fuck do you like this crap?

One style? One style? The guy covered more stylistic territory in that single show than everyone you've ever shown me combined have ever managed. Fuck, if he felt like it, he very likely could probably play Luc's things better than Luc plays them.

Sure, Goobs, let us know if Watch Captain has another interview with Hannity, or if you actually have an idea on anything. For my part, I was bringing this thread to a its initial laser focus--in point, that the kiddie perv waddling antics of watch Captain are in fact analogous to Gopher's utterly annoying shredding.
