While it's not the music of a single artist, this album and accompanying film define a generation.

Some seriously good shit on this album. Besides the obvious greatness of Jimi, Buddy Miles kicks ass.Van wrote:

Hardly. At best, it helped define one small niche of a generation...similar to Menudo.Martyred wrote:While it's not the music of a single artist, this album and accompanying film define a generation.

Dude, there's a difference between a mod editing a post to make it look like you said something you didn't and a mod using strikethrough and italics to clearly indicate he made an edit in an attempt to bust your balls. It's a fucking smack board, for chrissakes. Who's really exposing their vag around here?Goober McTuber wrote:Goober McTuber wrote:Screw_Michigan wrote: I didn't say you had to like it, you just have to suck on it.No, I don't.Yes you do, motherfucker. Thought for sure you'd include this one, Van...

Re: Best Live Rock Albums
I already included it in the Most Underrated list. There, I'd call it #1. For just plain Best Live Album, though, no, I'm not prepared to place it above Band of Gypsys or The Song Remains the Same.
I'd also slap 24 Nights from Clapton somewhere up there.
Oh, and hell, as for either Best or Most Underrated I've gotta mention Joe Bonamassa's Live From Nowhere in Particular.

More likely he was trying to accomplish the former, but wound up with the latter. Re: Best Live Rock Albums
More than likely what you may not like about him is that he strikes you as a nerdy white guy who isn't an 'authentic' blues dude. He's sort of the Urkel of blues rock.
Nevertheless, he is absolutely the real deal. Writing, performing, voice, lyrics, soul, chops, tone, versatility, longevity...he has it all.

While these may not rank among the "best" live albums, after seeing 'em last night for the first time, in a 2K capacity venue w/ third-row center seats, I'd say these guys should be on the top of everyone's list as far as live acts go. They are just FUN!!!

Re: Best Live Rock Albums
They actually had two - Duke Levine & Kevin Barry. Levine played most of the lead parts and was the "out front" guitarist. Barry pretty much stayed at the back of the stage, and probably played on only about half the songs.Sudden Sam wrote:Any idea who their guitarist was?
The J. Geils Band is probably one of only very few bands that could lose their namesake w/o sacrificing much of their sound. They never were a truly guitar-driven band, and their sound derived more from Peter Wolf, Magic Dick, & Seth Justman than from anything terribly unique about Geils's guitar sound, although it was missed on songs like "Houseparty" and "First I Look at the Purse."

then even though it's not a live album per se but there was a DVD of Korn playing CBGB's within their greatest hits album (yeah go ahead and snicker)...the energy off that live set was just unreal...
