There is one main reason Zeppelin never reunites: Robert Plant. Page and Jones have been keen to do it almost from the start, after giving everyone time to decompress following Bonham's death. Plant? The guy has always been vehemently against the idea. In fact, he's spent nearly his entire post-Zeppelin career trying to distance himself from his Zeppelin days, in particular his singing from the earliest albums. He doesn't enjoy his voice from that era, nor his chosen lyrical themes. He just does not want to sing "Black Dog" again, as he considers such things trifles of a misspent youth. He wants no part of "The Immigrant Song," thinking it too "heavy metal" and therefore unseemly for a distinguished gentleman of his advanced dotage. And he hasn't liked singing "Stairway" since, oh, perhaps 1977.

Also, Zeppelin simply evokes too many painful memories for him. He brought Bonzo into the band, and the excesses of Zeppelin turned his best friend into a rage-filled monster before the rampant alcoholism ultimately killed him. His only son died while he was on tour. He shattered his leg just before the making of Presence. He lost his wife.

Aside from the partying, the comaraderie, the fame and the money, it was pretty much all bad news.

While he rightfully revels in the accolades tossed Zeppelin's way, he just wants to keep the somber realities of that world well and truly in his rearview mirror.

When you put it like that Van, you make it sound bad.

I don't know about any of that, Van.

All I know is that they were and are legendary Gods. Any reunion couldn't possibly live up to the hype and would only serve to sully their reputation.

Long Live LZ, the single greatest band ever.

Zeppelin was cool when they were into Aleister Crowley. Not Alison Krauss.

I didn't read everything so pardons if this has been discussed. But Pat Monahan of Train is sitting around waiting for the call. Yeah, the Drops of Jupiter guy has the pipes and the love for Zeppelin to do all the heavy lifting if Page wants to reform and tour. If you've ever heard him cover LZ on the Stern show, you already know what I'm talking about.

When it comes to guys being able to sing like they used to long after they should no longer be able to, RJD was the freak's freak of all time. Up until dude's dying day in his late sixties that pissed off little gnome was still belting it out without taking even a slight step back.

And for anybody that wants to hear some great Jimmy Page doing Zeppelin w an adequate group of backline players, Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes Live at the Greek is insanely good.

RJD?

Edit: Never mind I got it. That's because RJD was a singer's singer. I believe he turned down a free ride to Juliard.

with a nic like that, I figure you're trolling.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I'm not entirely sure what the term "trolling" means. But I'm not here to hassle anyone if that's what it implies.

R & R reunions...almost always disappointing. Nice that they even attempt to have a go at it...but everyone from performer to listener is in a totally different place from back then...

Saw Justin Hayward trying to hit some of the same notes from the '70's and it wasn't going to happen...nice try though....

Aw, ya got me dead to right, guvnor. I hadn't kept up on the reformed all-star bands and the C-Vultures got by me. I like them--checked out the Austin City limits set--but it does get a bit hard on the ears. Very impressive to do hard rock with quality--you know, without sounding like Rush or some horrid blizzard of pretentious crap. the Vultures remind me of a really strong S.F. band from about ten years ago called MIRV. They play with Les Claypool and folks. Check 'em out.
