I have no clue what a Juco coach makes. I do know that $38.5 is well below the starting pay for delivery drivers in the South Texas oil fields. Plus all you need is a DL for that, not 6 years of college.Mace wrote: $38.5K isn't bad for a first year Juco softball coach. $38.5k is nearly twice what a Commuter Airline First Officer makes. Actually, it's pretty cose to what a new-hire FO makes at American, United, Delta, or SouthwestLeft Seater wrote:I have no clue what a Juco coach makes. Cuda, not sure where you are getting your info, but that Southwest info is wrong.
A first year FO at Southwest makes $57 per hour with the airline guaranteeing 78 hours per month. That is a first year salary of over $53k. plus if you make it thru that first year your hourly rate goes to $97 per hour. Over $90K in the second year. All of that on less college too.

um, you're trolling, right?Left Seater wrote:Why go to college much less grad school if you settle for $38.5K a year? No wonder she has a roommate. She's not gay, she freaking broke. I'm sure you didn't spend $100K to send her to school for 6 years for her to make less per hour than a 17 year old laborer in the Eagleford play.War Wagon wrote: She's not a player anymore, she's the head softball coach at a state juco, as well as teaching 5 classes a day. Straight out of college with a masters degree, she got the job within 1 month of graduation making $38.5k a year.
To begin with, many kids straight from college these days can't even find a job, period, much less doing one they studied and trained for. I was worried she'd be one of those, lucky to get an assistant coaching gig at some CC making half of what they offered her.
Not to mention, she loves it. And her players and students love her, as well as their parents. I guess they had a pretty bad coach in the past, one the kids despised and wouldn't play hard for.
Next, while $38.5k may not seem like much to you, to her it's a small fortune. And she's not broke. She's paying all her bills, including her student loans... hasn't asked Mom and Dad for a dime even though we've told her that if she ever needs help getting on her feet, don't hesitate to ask.
She's also managing to start saving some money and insists that in less than a year won't be living paycheck to paycheck. She doesn't waste money on foolish things. It's not how much you make, it's how much you keep.
Lastly, buzz killer, we're proud and tickled to death at the situation she landed in. A situation she made happen by persistence, determination and sheer ability. Nothing was ever given to her, she worked hard for it. I'm sorry it doesn't live up to your high standards, not. That's probably the kindest way I've ever told somebody to go fuck themselves. You're welcome.

I wasnt trying to put her down. I was trying to say that there was a good reason she needed a roommate.
That's great if she loves her job, I just don't see why someone would go to school for 6 years and rack up a decade or more worth of debt when a fraction of that education could land the same job.
As for your contention that many college grads can't find any job upon graduation is laughable. Sure there may not be a job in their chosen field right off the bat, but there are plenty of jobs. Most just look down on some of them.

So she should have looked down at the job and not taken it :?Left Seater wrote:

really? I guess all those articles I've seen in the past few years were bullshit. I've read that up to 1/2 of college grads of late can't find a decent job within 6 months of graduation. I could probably google up 77,000 results that would indicate exactly that but it's not worth my time.Left Seater wrote:As for your contention that many college grads can't find any job upon graduation is laughable

Re: Wags, unburden your soul, drag your family out of the cl
btw, I don't think she needed a room mate so much as that a student friend needed an affordable place to stay while going to school far from home. Rents in rural Missouri are relatively low. She's renting a nice duplex for $450 a month.
and save your lezbo jokes, trolls. I ain't reading them... who am I kidding, of course you jokers can't resist the lesbian cracks.

I notice that SWA piots have to provide their own 737 type rating within 6 months if they don't alredy have it- that's a good $30k or more right there out of your pocket.Left Seater wrote:Cuda, not sure where you are getting your info, but that Southwest info is wrong.

Unlike the part 91 world, none of the majors and very few of the regionals will take anybody without a 4 year degree. All of that on less college too.
There's also those 2500 TT & 1000 turbine minimums that hardly cost anything to accrue

Cuda, yes WN requires a type rating but that will pay itself off in only a couple of years. And yes you need a four year degree for most airlines, but not a masters and most work on their time while they are going to school.
