Wyoming coach tirade at Air Force...

Post by Left Seater »

The strange thing is he is calling the mocking the Air Force coach by calling him fly boy while wearing a military hat on military appreciation night.

Love the Howdy Doody line, but the best part is dude's wife putting up her hand and telling the Air Force coach "just stop."

jesus, does your internet provider charge you by the click?
Christensen had been upset at a play in the fourth quarter when Air Force quarterback Connor Dietz went down with an injury, was looked at by trainers for several minutes and left the field for one snap. Apparently, Christensen believed Dietz was not truly injured and Air Force used the delay to set up the next play before going on to take the lead. He confronted Calhoun about it during the postgame handshake in a conversation Calhoun described to reporters as "not a conversation I'd have with my mom."

Three questions for the Wyoming coach.

1) Why would you have your QB be the guy to fake an injury? Wouldn't a WR, TE or RB who routinely sub in and out make more sense?

2) When you saw the cameras wouldn't you tone it down?

3) This "incident" happened with over 8 minutes remaining in the game, did you just get so rattled you quit?

Bonus question: How does a week suspension and a $50K fine feel? Are you worried about your job since your 1-5?

The Air Force coach deserved it. What Air Force did was completely unethical and dishonorable.

1. The QB's helmet came off during the previous play and they were out of timeouts with the clock running.

2. It was filmed by a spectator not an actual television camera.

The Air Force Honor Code:
"We will not lie, steal or cheat, nor tolerate among us anyone who does.
Furthermore, I resolve to do my duty and to live honorably, so help me God."

So if the QBs helmet came off during the previous down, the clock would have stopped at the completion of said play. It would not have started again until he was off the field and the ball was marked ready for play. A time out there can't get him back into the game.

So the clock would have stopped regardless due to the helmet issue. Why fake an injury on top of it?

Hell, even if they had a half hour to plan one play are you really all that worried about a kid with 5 rushes and two pass attempts in 7 games?

Add to that the starter had almost 9 real minutes, not game clock minutes, before he was back under center and it is hard to prove he was faking anything.

If you still believe it was faked after the fact why not take it up with the league? Now he gets a fine and a suspension and there is no other investigation by the league.

Better yet, I hope they can his ass.

Missouri offense hasn't been worth a piss since Yost took over for Christensen. Pinkel (and Mizzou fans) would welcome him back with open arms...

I thought a TO called by the team w/the injured player could get him back in the game w/out missing a play.

The use of a timeout after an injury timeout can allow the injured player to return immediately.

A player who loses his helmet during the course of play, not including foul directly to the helmet, must sit out the next play and cannot return even if his team calls a charged time out.

The back up QB wasn't ready to come into the game. He couldn't even find his helmet. CBS College Sports on Saturday night was showing the sideline screaming at the QB coming off the field to take a knee. It has never been shown by anyone sense and suspect because it is Air Force (a service academy).

Air Force wasn't worried about the clock after just that play. They were worried about having to punt the ball if they didn't get the first down. They hadn't been able to move the ball all night.

Not only that but take into consideration that Air Force is a triple option team not a high powered offense. clock management is much more crucial to them than other teams.

Wyoming did take it up with the league.

Some one has to have a copy of that.

What are you talking about. There was no way Air Force was going to punt. The play on which Dietz lost his helmet was second and goal from the 7. He gained two yards on that play to the five. So it was third and goal from the five when he was out. And they were worried about punting?

SunCoastSooner wrote:Not only that but take into consideration that Air Force is a triple option team not a high powered offense. clock management is much more crucial to them than other teams.
While possibly correct on the surface, Air Force had two scoring drives in that game of 4 plays, 65 yards in 1:09 of clock; and a second of 4 plays 63 yards in 1:35 of clock.

SunCoastSooner wrote:Wyoming did take it up with the league.
What was the outcome. The league must have found nothing because there hasn't been a response that I have found.

Please tell us when Air Force called their Time Outs in the second half. Further if they were out of time outs when Dietz lost his helmet with over 8:00 minutes remaining in the game, how did they call one with 1:07 left in the game.

In fact the official game report shows Air Force only took 1 time out in the second half, at 1:07 left in the 4th.

What the hell game did you watch?

I was going by the CBS College Sports wrap up account. It may have been FG not punt. Wyoming had played more consistently.

Regardless it was obvious the Air Force QB wasn't hurt. He got up with his helmet in his hand and began running to the sideline. You could see the people screaming at him from the sideline and he suddenly just took a knee and kneeld there for a few minutes. He was miraculously ready to come back in the game a moment later.
