The perils of staying with family at Christmas

Post by Screw_Michigan »

I usually stay at my parents' for a week between Christmas and New Year's because my publication doesn't print then, giving me basically an entire week off for free and chances to visit friends like MgoTardTimeSpecial. While I don't mind spending time with my parents, my younger sister is now back living at home and I can't stand listening to her talk about ANYTHING, making "family time" shit extremely painful.

It seriously gives me headaches. My sister is one of those types who LOVES drama, in fact, I'd go so far as saying she thrives on it. The way she describes things, the most mundane irrelevant shit that happens at her work is like World War II all over again. And the way she talks bothers me. Just totally rubs me the wrong way. Can't make up her fucking mind over anything, either. Thought were weren't going to do presents tonight, and then we are, but then we decided to wait again until morning, then oops, we'll do one. JUST MAKE UP YOUR FUCKING MIND!

I love my sister, but she has a shelf life with me of about 15 minutes. I'm not going to tell her to shut up or anything like that (maybe I should leave a note on her door), but I AM going to disappear for a while until my headache settles down. Thankfully I am going to drink beers with friends later, so I have that going for me.

Merry fucking Christmas, you fucking degenerates.

maybe some day you'll be a parent and have kids at your house over the holidays... but I doubt it.

My sister is the nicest person I've ever known, next to my mom.

Apparently, your sister takes after you.

Just wait until you spend Christmas with the in-laws. Not that I hate them or anything but they do things their way. Add to that my mom lives 30 minutes away and Christmas becomes a ping pong game for the seaters. We sleep at the in-laws because my mom lives in a condo that bans dogs so ours are not allowed to visit. Here is today's schedule:

Up at 6:00 to be at my mom's by 7:00 to open presents with the little cousins

8:30 return to the in-laws

9:00 open presents with them

11:00 off to wife's grandparents house for extended family gathering and meal

2:00 back to in-laws to check on dogs

2:45 back to my moms for dinner

8:00 ish plant ourselves at a hotel bar and catch up with friends of both of ours

Man Christmas is tiring.

far from it.

Christmas at mom's house 20 years ago would invariably turn into a fight between my brother and me arguing over politics or some other stupid bullshit... only to be broken up by the eldest brother.

We don't get together much these days. Weddings and funerals, that's pretty much it. Good thing they both live 800 miles away.

I guess having 1,400 miles or so between us and our kids isn't so bad after all. Phone calls, chat on Skype, e-mails do the trick. We did travel north for Christmas in 2006 so we could spend some of it with our young Grandchildren while they were old enough to remember it and young enough to give a crap. It was fun, but it's likely we will never do it again. Our parents have long since passed on, but I have a younger brother who I get along with, and an older sister who I have to treat with a great deal of tact and tongue biting. One of Mrs.O's brothers is a widower snow bird down here and he is coming over for dinner this afternoon.
Merry Christmas everyone.

Things I have gathered from this thread

Screwey will never marry...a femake, anyway. If he can't tolerate a whiny little sister, he wouldn't last 10 minutes with a wife. The human gene pool is foul enough, so this is a good thing.

Lefty's not as sharp as I thought as he thinks there is a chance in hell Screwey will marry. Butm he's still brighter than AP.

Wags bangs his sister.

Wolfie's pretty much dead. Zsa Zsa will outlive him. Guess I better get down to swfla quick to visit mom and have a cold beast light with him. I could see myself getting hammered with him and going out to tag a few dumpaters. That would make a pretty damn good episode of cops.

As for my xmas in-law run ins, nothing to special as my mom in law lives 20 minutes away and we see her pretty much weekly. fortunately, i get along great with her...no, not that great, you sick fukks.

We're headed over to my sis-inlaws in a few hours. Her and my wife are at war currently as is half the rest of the family(with the sister inlaw). 7-11 other family members will be there so it shouldnt turn into a quiet stareing death match.

Sis has decided at age 45 that she does not give a fuck(DNGF) anymore and spreading her missery is her best course. It used to be that her poor husband got the brunt of her wrath, now shes branching out to sisters, cousins, aunts and former friends. My wife has instructions to feed some of the food off her plate to the dog first in case of poisen.

Others in attendance include the sis inlaws husband(hyperactive alcoholic), other sis inlaw(herpes, bi-sexual), Father inlaw( anxiety, otherwise great guy), and a mother inlaw who talks non-stop about every event that happened to her in the past 12 hours.

I'm on the awesome highway and there is no turning back today.

No you won't. That would be real work and would tire your gay ass out real fast. Besides, that would contribute something to the local economy, instead of the writing you do for a living.

Pity you poor souls and all your in law drama. Only the immediate family this year. Kids and grand kids, all live locally, come in for gifts and snacks at lunch time and they all leave to go to their other in-laws gatherings that they MUST attend at a specific time. No crazy sister drama, ( wife has one of those), no mother in law screeching. Nothing.

In our family, guns are a frequent gift and this year was no exception. Being the libertarians that we are, nothing says Christmas like gunfire in the afternoon on our range. Few hundred rounds, ( fuck most of the neighbors, one set was over shooting with us) coffee and Irish creme, brazed halibut dinner with white wine for the wife and I, Done with the holiday. Christmas decorations coming down tomorrow, chop up the tree and burn it in the fire pit while toasting 2012.

I drove a forklift during a summer in college. Wasn't bad at the time, but was even better knowing I wouldn't have to do it for the rest of my life.

I get paid for what I know, you monumentally stupid cretin. I hope one of your inbred, redneck brethren offs you in a firearms mishap.

At least you got the god damn holiday off. Some of us are considered "essential" employees and got the pleasure of working on Christmas. But I did munch on some good food with total strangers for a bit.

Not much at all. Hell, I built the schedule so it is only as rigid as I keep it, but it does help keep both of the mother's happy.

You never know how long we'll have with them and when we don't do this on Christmas I am sure we will wish we were.
