The main reason I tipped the hostess well was to see that these shitbags were seated in someone else's section preferably on the other side of the restaurant so they didn't interfere with my other guests' enjoyment of their meal.

Niqqers do the same thing to the earning potential of a waiter's section as they do to real estate property values in their neighborhoods. Normal human beings who would ordinarily be inclined to linger for coffee and dessert will cash out and bolt as soon as they can when a table of loud niqqers (are there any other kind?) are seated near them. I'm sure some of them even feel bad about it for some reason and it makes them do stupid things such as vote for Oplatelip to expunge their guilt.

Which I think is appalling for a western country

Most friends I know who work in the restaurant industry as waitstaff earn around $18 - $25 an hour depending on what restaurant they work in.
Here you only tip if you feel you had good service & the waitstaff don't get bent out of shape if you don't tip
Personally I always tip if I feel the food & service is good, as I work in an industry myself that people tip me for good service so I look at it as good karma to tip someone I think has given me good service, but it doesn't bother me if I don't get tipped as I know I earn a good wage & look at tips as bonus money.

I've been to the States, predominately LA, 4 times in the last 4 years as I have close friends who live there & love shopping over there as there is more variety as you have a much bigger population to cater for,
& I resent having to tip for poor service,
but have no problem tipping more than the required 15- 18% if I feel the service was exemplary,
I don't feel that the service is any better in the US as the staff are working for tips
as it seems that servers feel they should be tipped regardless as this is part of their wage so do just the bare minimum
which means we are directly paying the servers wage & even though the initial prices on the menu without tip might look cheaper in some US eateries than in Australia, by the time you add tax & tip
to the bill it averages out the same.
