I think half my dorm room was furnished with milk crates.

I wouldn't hesitate to use crates. Used to use those and some wooden ones, plus had my speakers up on thinner ones.

However, since my wife has now got her "dream home", I don't guess I'll be doing that. She'd like everything to be nice, so I'm conceding that to her. I'm trying to do it "right"
