Chiefs finally get a QB...
...well, maybe not so much. I'm thinking when Smith turtles behind that pourous KC O-line the faithful will be thinking Cassel was not all that bad.
05:05 – Fox Sports insider and NFL Network contributor Jay Glazer reports that Alex Smith appears to have found a new home as the San Francisco 49ers have agreed to trade the former No. 1 overall pick to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The report I'm seeing is that the Niners will get the #33 pick in this year's draft and a conditional pick in 2014.
Pretty much of a steal for a QB of Smith's caliber, even though there are some questions about how well he'll perform in a different system.

Re: Chiefs finally get a QB...
It's a great trade for both teams. KC gets a steady & proven QB who doesn't turn the ball over much and SF drops 7-8 million in salary for what for them was a back-up. Smith turns 29 in may, he has a lot of good mileage left. A 2nd round pick for him is a steal.
The only question now is how soon do they run Cassel off? I don't hate him, he took his demotion with class, never whining to the media. I don't care how bad he sucked, he was obviously a better QB than Quinn.

Re: Chiefs finally get a QB...
The day after the combine concluded, KC knew Alex Smith was clearly the best option.
I like the choice. We have a new QB, and still have many options with our #1 pick.
This team desperately needs wins right now. Alex Smith will do that for them. He is a proven
vet who is still showing signs of progress. He has not peaked. I believe he can put up very respectable
numbers here in Reid's system. More than 20 td's, less than10 int's, and 3500 yards with 10-11 wins.
That will get them in the playoffs, and its anyone's guess from there.
I would have loved to be able to go and draft the next great franchise QB, but he ain't in this years draft.

Not sure Alex Smith is much better than Cassel. Certainly Smith is going to find out QBing in KC is not the same as it was in SF.

Re: Chiefs finally get a QB...
what, he's going to miss Mario Manningham?
Re: Chiefs finally get a QB...
Absolutely. KC just swapped one average QB for another. Smith showed that he is a capable QB when provided with above average coaching, a superior offensive line and quality skill position players surrounding him. Then again...so did Matt Cassel.Joe in PB wrote:Not sure Alex Smith is much better than Cassel. Certainly Smith is going to find out QBing in KC is not the same as it was in SF.
If there is any difference to be made in KC next year, it will be made by Andy Reid not Alex Smith.

^ Exactly.
I was thinking Smith is going to miss the best oline in the league last season.

Totally confused about the signing of Chase Daniels. Instant QB controversy. The moment Alex Smith throws his
first INT, 60% of Arrowhead will be chanting WE WANT CHASE, and MIZ-ZOU!!!! Hell, 30% will when Smith tosses the
first incompletion. Sure wish Daniels would have been here the last couple of years.

I seriously doubt that the Pillsbury Doughboy is an upgrade unless he's been on a serious diet.kcdave wrote:Totally confused about the signing of Chase Daniels. Instant QB controversy. The moment Alex Smith throws his

Mace, what up? You normally bring more of a informed and educated football take. Daniels is a much
better option than what the Chiefs have trotted out over the last 2 years. I fully expect him to give Alex
Smith a serious challenge in camp for the number one spot.

Re: Chiefs finally get a QB...
I'm sure he'll be a fan favorite in KC but I don't see him making much of an impact. Granted, I didn't see all of his college games at Mizzou, but being short, fat, and slow, as he was in his senior year, are not qualities usually associated with being a successful NFL quarterback. They'd have been better off signing Ryan Fitzpatrick for a backup, imo.kcdave wrote:Mace, what up? You normally bring more of a informed and educated football take. Daniels is a much

Who is Chase Daniels?

I presumed that he meant Chase Daniel and took into consideration that Dave is from KC before I responded.mvscal wrote:Who is Chase Daniels?
Re: Chiefs finally get a QB...
That was mighty white of you. I'm still laughing at the thought of Daniel being an upgrade over Gaydy Queen. I suppose slightly less meatgazing in the locker room could be considered an upgrade.

Re: Chiefs finally get a QB...
The proof is in the pudding but, judging from what I saw of his college career, Daniel was likely signed to put a few more butts in the seats at Arrowhead by creating some local interest for a shitty team that knows it will remain shitty for a few more years.

Re: Chiefs finally get a QB...
Daniel and Mizzou won the XII North in 2007 and 2008, were ranked #1 at one point and were within one game of the MNC before Oklahoma burst their bubble. Daniel had a stellar college career, putting up some gaudy numbers in a "gimmick" spread offense.
He may not be shit as an NFL QB other than holding a clipboard, but who knows? He's thrown all of 9 passes in 4 years of backing up Drew Brees. But he was at least good enough to get drafted and hold his job in training camps the past few years while getting paid to hold that clipboard.

Re: Chiefs finally get a QB...
Dudes on the radio/twitter this morning were clowning on fuckers like me that add an S to his name.
Re: Chiefs finally get a QB...
How would anyone know? All he ever did was put up gaudy numbers during college in a gimmick offense while never winning a significant game in his career, unless you somehow consider beating Kansas the least bit noteworthy. As a pro QB he's been no more impressive than you have, and he's just about as fat.kcdave wrote:Daniels is a much better option than what the Chiefs have trotted out over the last 2 years.

Are you trying to be a wise ass, or are you just a dumb ass? We don't know how good a QB he can be, but we know how bad the others were.Van wrote:kcdave wrote:As a pro QB he's been no more impressive than you have, and he's just about as fat.
It should not be very had to put up better numbers than those stiffs. Lame fat jokes? Really? If you think I am fat, you are either an idiot, have me confused with someone else, or both.
Chase was a little bit chunky in school, probably too much pizza and beer. Looking much better now though.

Re: Chiefs finally get a QB...
man the chefs are desperate if they're willing to pay that stiff 10 million for 3 years
the dude does have a 92.1 QB rating in the NFL, but of course he's only thrown for 55 yards in his 4 year career.....fuck, I could throw for 55 yards in four years in the NFL...I'd carry a clipboard for a lot less than 3.3 million a year, suppose KC would give me a shot?
