Saw Built to Spill last night in Detroit

Truly epic show. The whole band is really engaging...displaying a Tool-like focus and demeanor most of the time...and Doug Martsch has great stage presence, and not just because he looks like a homeless mad scientist.

don't know aboot that. I've seen them a couple times and wasn't impressed. The solos were a bit much for mine ears even when I was big into them.

also on the live album. I haven't been issuing much Built to Spill lately so I dug up perfect from now on and listened to that during errands. They'll be in town on the 24th. BUAH!

Not the case at this show, my friends. The only total wank job was the finishing encore tune (which was expected)...the rest were pretty much album time.

Damn. The last Built to Spill show I caught was at the Showbox. They came on at 10:30 and played until a few minutes before 2:00.

I caught BtS a few years ago at Nita's Hideaway (RIP) here in Tempe. Nice show, but I don't think it lasted excessively long. 2 hours tops. The biggest surprise was that I was the only person smoking weed (at least that I could see). At an outdoor show, no less! I offered it to a couple people in my vicinity, but no takers. I was seriously dumbfounded. It was just weird. I've never been the only person smoking pot at a show. :?

I'll have to keep an eye out for any shows in the PHX area...
