In some places cops aren't paid particularly well. I suspect florence, sc is one of those places. In Ct they do pretty well and have ridiculous pensions.

Anyway, rack the bike cop for his fun little ride.

Can anybody tell what he is riding? At first I figured HD as it appeared he was having trouble keeping up, but the engine note is not right. I suppose he was just keeping a safe distance.

Funny how dumbass didn't immediately ditch the ride and hoofed it as he likely could have gotten away. Instead he gives the po-po a few minutes to bring in reinforcements, then he tries to outrun them. 1 hoodrat can possibly outrun 1 cop. He can't outrun 5 coming from all angles.

He was on a BMW R1200RT. And Jesus, dude, once the other cops have the guy on the ground, turn your damn siren off! Don't just keep blaring it right in their ears!

Most cops around here, including Highway Patrol, seem to be riding beemers.

Beemers are nice rides but a bit pricey. You would think they'd go with Jap stuff more. Maybe BMW cuts them good deals for the exposure.

Does BMW make any of their bikes here? I know some of the japs do.

BMW builds cars in South Carolina but none of their bikes are built in the U.S. The reason so many law enforcement agencies use the R1200RT has to do with its superior agility. It's so much lighter (easily 100 lbs or more) than the Japanese equivalents, never mind the old Harleys. It's also the most comfortable of the lot and bombproof reliable while returning better fuel mileage than the far more powerful Kawasaki Concours, which is gaining popularity with a lot of motor forces. With air cooling and the cylinder heads sticking right out in the breeze the BMW is easier to work on, as well.

And yes, of course BMW cuts these agencies a great deal on fleet sales of the Police Specials.

Wonder why others don't use the boxer layout? It is an awesome design and not only is it light, it has a lower center of gravity than TiVO. It really has only one downside being that you can't lay it over on its side in 10/10ths road racing. This is not much of a problem with cops or sane folks in general. No fukking way I have the talent/package size to lay a bike over that far in a turn. Would like to get me an older RT one of these days. I would guess that they are extremely easy to work on as well. Anyone that has ever tried to wrassle a carb rack out of any 4 cylinder jap bike would agree.

Adding to Van's points about the BMW: better brakes, better handling, better everything. Older cops seem to prefer Harleys, younger cops like the Beemer and the Kaw.

smack, I scrape my floorboards all the time on my VTX. It's definitely not made for rowdy riding, but I do have to make some sweeping turns occasionally.

If you have floorboards on your motorcycle, you are a decrepit old fukk. Just go ahead and make that trip up to knoxville for christ's sake. :grin:
