spell check for word files
anyone ever heard of a spell check program in word going bad? I have a computer with offic e 2000 and the spell check program ain't working. I reloaded it, it works for a little while, then it starts missing obviously misspelled words.
Are there any decent free spell checks out there?

Is it possible that someone is adding miss spelled words to the dictionary? Another possiblity is that the word is spelled correctly, its just not the correct word. Alternatively maybe something or someone is over writing the dictionary words? Its also possible that the dictionary is getting corrupted, but then I don't think it would find any spelling mistakes.

There are too many uniquely odd words being missed so that no one could be adding them. I'm a decent speller so I know that most of these words being missed are not real words. We're talking about words like facility being spelled faciltliy, or indulgence being spelled indulgnece.
The only possibility out of those is a corrupt dictionary, but I don't know how to fix that.

You could try to un-install the dictionary feature from Word and then add it back if you have the MS Office feature.
Also ms office has a feature that fixes its files. You might want to google around to find it and use that to see if it finds any problems.
You might also want to review your settings to see if someone or something changed those.

Sorry, that ain't happening. It's a secondary machine, not a primary, rarely on line, and none of the others show any signs of those problems.atomicdad wrote:Nothing to add here,
but if someone is fucking with your machine Bush, that is a pretty funny practical joke. At least looking from the outside.
Carry On.
Nice to see you enjoying the thought, though.

I looked around but I can't find anything even remotely close to your problem being mentioned and I've personally never heard of it. Of course with MS stuff, and computers in general, its hard to know sometimes the cause of these problems.
First, I would try to patch my MS Office with the latest stuff from the office update site. You'll need the CD for this.
If that fails to fix the problem, remove the spellcheck feature, reboot and then add it back in. You'll need the MS Office CD for this.
If that still doesn't fix it, maybe you just need to re-install MS Office.

Not for MS office as far as I know...Not a mainstream one anyway. There are addons for specialists like for medical stuff but its not a replacement.
In fact a lot of the spell checking programs you find out there just use the MS one. Its easy to use VBA to allow you to use the MS office spell checker in other programs.

It ain't free, but it seems pretty broad based and covers a lot of applications. .
