Re: RIP JJ Cale.
JJ's collaboration with Clapton on The Road To Escondido was a great disc....never understood why it never did better than it did in the US.....a lot of my friends have never heard of the album and have no idea who JJ Cale was.....their loss
he was a great musician and nails as a songwriter.....RIP

Re: RIP JJ Cale.
huge jj cale fan... the "orginal gypsy man"... dude, just got it.
The guy probably did Ren Faires before I did.
always liked his version of "cocaine" much more than clapton
not much of a coinecidence that he's from the same state as my boy "Hoyt Axton"... two of the best songs writers ever.

Nice find... that dead okie was ten times the musician... with ten times less pay.
Clapton, Skynard, Ferry, Knopler, etc... owe this guy big time
That tune... reminds me of a jam at the North Carolina Faire I had with my boy...
... 99% of the time, joe public just doesn't get it.

my favorite Hoyt Axton disc was Fearless.....a great album that I burned through two vinyl copies of.....M2 wrote:not much of a coinecidence that he's from the same state as my boy "Hoyt Axton"... two of the best songs writers ever.
his mother wasn't a bad songwriter either......

no shit....Clapton is smiling through the entire video so you know he was having a good time......I'm pretty sure that was from the 2004 Crossroads music festival.....

Re: RIP JJ Cale.
It is either 04 or 05. Probably one of the tightest pieces of music I have ever heard. Lots of small improvisations in the finger picking, some different bass runs, just a great piece of music. Each musician, especially JJ and Eric are in a complete groove, nothing can wrong to screw this one up, and they are having a great time doing it. I think these guys just get better as they get older, hate to lose them.Felix wrote:my favorite Hoyt Axton disc was Fearless.....a great album that I burned through two vinyl copies of.....M2 wrote:not much of a coinecidence that he's from the same state as my boy "Hoyt Axton"... two of the best songs writers ever.

Re: RIP JJ Cale.
like I said, your loss.....good music is simply that, good musicschmick wrote: you mean a bunch of old people will think less of me if I post that I hadnt heard of some old musician who played music I never listened to?
sudden sam and I are probably the closest in tastes in music and I feel like he's my twin brother from a different mother....our tastes in music are so similar it's just scary sometimes.....like Sam, I never button hole myself into a particular genre nor the style of music.....
I've got discs that are older than you are and recent pickups that are by new bands....don't deny yourself the opportunity to expand your musical horizons.......

that's quite the variety you've left for yourself.....schmick wrote:I like everything but disco, r&b, jazz, blues, southern rock, classic rock, black metal, US pop, mexican accordion, mariachi, polka, middle eastern music, glam metal, classical and country, especially not country.
Generally don't like anything older than the Clash, Stooges, Sex Pistols...
how could anyone not like blues music?
