Most every other sport has a time basis or in the case of baseball, innings. There is only one situation in tennis where you play to a higher score, its called tiebreakers, not really applicable here. If I play Federer tomorrow, he is gonna win 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, the same score he would have against you, anyone else on this board or 99.999% of the rest of the planet. He will not win a set 12-0 because there is a built in mercy rule.
It's an interesting perspective.
I would argue that by the same token, football and basketball have a built in mercy rule.
It's called...
THE CLOCK, and it
will run out.
In youth tennis, especially in early round matches, a lot of kids get the shit kicked out of them, are toyed with, and humiliated.
Any spectator who wanders by to watch a few minutes of the action can eyeball a total mismatch easily.
In most of the cases like this, the match is obviously over from 3-0 in the first set.
It's just batting practice for basically the entire match.
But nobody steps in to stop the action, because poor little Timmy's self of steam is taking a battering.
No, he has to stay out there, sack up, take his lumps, and go the distance.
The issue here for those who are too butthurt to accept that beatings are part of sports, is the dreadfully painful SCOREBOARD.
It just hurts too much to look at it.
35-0 is acceptable to the self of steam, but 57-0 isn't. lol
I find that funny.
Get over it.
The clock's going to run out.
You got your ass kicked all around no matter what the numbers on the scoreboard say, and anyone who watched it knows it.
And the dominator hopscotching out of bounds -- instead of taking it in for the 7th TD is only
more of an insult.
Also, as Scott and trev noted, coaches know how to deal with beatings in a dignified manner.
And those coaches who don't... well, people can judge them as assholes or however else they want.
... or not.
It's life, and it comes without a protective container.
