The big difference between the two is the level of cooperation. We all know the NCAA is very shorthanded. Miami came with open books and said here is what happened and here is what we have done to change it going forward. SC on the other hand still doesn't think they did anything wrong and didn't do anything to show the NCAA what really happened and forced the NCAA to go out and discover it all on their own.

The penalties reflect the differences.

That, and the depths the NCAA sunk to in trying to gather evidence - the lawyer they hornswaggled got disbarred over the deal.

I'm torn on this one. On one hand, if the NCAA exists to deter programs from violating the rules, then they failed miserably. If anything, they just opened the doors, rolled out the red carpet, and passed out free drink tickets to anyone who wants to cheat. On the other hand, anything that is likely to send Toejam into a purse-swinging, hand-wringing melt, I'm all for it.

And therein lies the rub -- the NCAA "cheated" in their own investigation, and actually broke real laws in doing so.

On that note, they should have awarded Miami extra schollies, not docked them.

Maybe because Bama was such a longtime, egregious offender?

Not much has happened sanction-wise to a certain conference since they signed billion-dollar deals with a couple of networks. Just coincidence, I'm sure.

Wow...Golden Valley....who knew? Congrats!!

Naturally anytime we have a constantly underachieving program that manages to obtain an unexpected level of success our civic duty compels us to conduct inquiries into the recruiting practices of star players (Pierre) and investigate the possible utilization of performance enhancing drugs.

That said, WELL DONE!

The school year isn't even two months old yet and league golf titles are being won already?

Why not contest such things in the late spring?

Link?

Didn't Bama just recently get off about 18 years of continuous probation?

Funny how they got sanctioned while on probation, yet didn't really get any punishment.

Ha...that's funny dude.....kid had to birdie 18 at TPC to force a playoff and she did. She then birdied it again on the second playoff hole to win a separate tournament besides being the league MVP.

That only rates a 2.6 on the Schmick melt meter.

Poor effort.

There's people out there that still think OJ did it?

He didn't. His son did.
