I just really...
Hate Michigan State.
There I said it. I know I've kept it a secret most of my life. But, good god do I hate that school, the people, the campus, the city, the colors, the mascot, the fight song, the people, the coaches, and well...everything.
I live in the Lansing area and it makes it that much worse. These marginally educated insecure douchebags that surround me with their same lame ass jokes about Ann Arbor being a whore or comments on Wal-Mart Wolverines make me sick. I'm tired of hearing how you could have gotten into Michigan. If you could have you would have gone. If you chose not to then you really are a fucking moron. That would be like saying I could fuck Natalie Portman but I chose to fuck the fat girl from Pitch Perfect.
East Lansing is a sad and depressing place that matches the style of football and basketball it plays: slow and oppressive. I'll be at the game on Saturday where I will brave the masses of sluts, juggalos and directional college wannabees. I will sit in that shithole they call a stadium with their tacky advertising, annoying cheers, and second rate facilities. I will hope that Brady Hoke and Al Borges execute with the talent they have and end the hopes and dreams of every pathetic sparty fan out there.
If they don't, I guess I'll just drink a lot.
Go Blue.

Here's the deal. The majority of your fan base consists of arrogant, humorless, socially awkward losers who live vicariously through the UofM "brand" in order to feel like winners in life. And now that you no longer even have the best program in the state of Michigan, you don't know how to handle it.
It's cool. All that typing about MSU the school, the people, etc., is just you deflecting from the reality of what's about to take place in East Lansing in four days. The beat down is coming. You know it, I know it, and your left tackle knows it:
"Nobody likes to get bullied, and that's what they did two years ago -- they bullied us. That's tough for me to admit because I don't like getting bullied. It's going to be a physical game. A very physical game. We're not going to get bullied this year."
Can't wait to see the bewildered look in the eyes of Pickalicious when MSU's front 7 is coming after him all game long. I'm calling for one fumble and two picks.
MSU 27
UM 14
P.S. There is nothing more amusing than grown men walking around wearing bright piss yellow hats and jackets. You asshats look ridiculous.

The best part about attending MSU was the copious amounts of twunts with Daddy issues and back home boyfriends. Those + a little booze = excellent weekends. An added benefit was that you weren’t as socially awkward as your UofM counterparts and could drive down the road if you wanted a guaranteed hookup. Like shooting fish in a barrel.

You really didn't think that one through, did you? Of course not, because like most of your urine uni-loving fan base, you're a simpleton. And the worst kind of simpleton, an arrogant simpleton. That's no way to go through life.
In fact, I can't remember you coming here to post anything that didn't involve wiping Green & White sand out of your vagina.
In any event, that's a horseshit narrative that UM fanboys like yourself have been massaging for years now, in a desperate attempt to try and keep Michigan's relevance at the forefront. Problem is, it's not working. The tide is turning, and even your own fat, bumbling figurehead coach and his overrated zilly star players are talking about what THEY need to to do match MSU's physicality and toughness.
I have a team, asshole. I know them inside and out and haven't missed a snap since can't-remember-when. And unlike you pleather jacket wearing dipshits who can't chew gum and operate your forklifts at the same time, I'm perfectly capable of loving one team and hating another team all at once. Wannabe elitist fucksticks like you make it real easy.
Anytime you want to talk football, I'm game. Can you even name more than three players on your own team besides Pickalicious, Half Gallon and Funyons?
I doubt it.

Let's talk football shall we?
State has the fortune of having the next two clashes in EL due to the conference realignment (why that's a valid reason, who knows?). They have a smothering defense with 5 or 6 guys on it that will play on Sunday's. The offense is inconsistent. They have a serious hate for all things UofM, an attitude they learned from their coach. I don't mind it, in fact I like and expect it from an in state rival. I don't care what the cheerleaders look like, what the coeds look like (we can all agree that it's easier to get laid in EL and by better quality skanks), what the campuses look like, what horrid unis Sparty rolls out in.....I just want to win this damn game!
So here's what you can expect from Michigan.....
The team will play tight, they haven't played well in hostile environments in the last few years and this will be second only to the shoe in these guys experience. Al Borges will keep pounding Fitz and Green into the line and will most likely have negative rushing yards in the first half. Without a big wide receiver to go deep, look for Gallon to try to get open on intermediate routes and Funchess on mismatches against smaller corners or slower lb's. Borges will play it close to the vest as long as it's a one score game either way. Should Michigan fall behind by more than one score look for the sparty ball hawking defense to force turnovers and put the game away. This game usually goes to the team with more rushing yards, it'll be tough for Michigan to win that battle and ultimately the game. On the other side of the ball Michigan's defense has been giving up points by the dozen. State doesn't have a qb/wr combo like PSU or an up tempo attack like IU, but the do have home field, UM hate, and Dantonio always has a few gadget plays in this game. I smell a punt fake, a wr pass, or a reverse on a kick or punt return....always some surprise plays. Michigan must stop the run and get pressure while rushing only four guys. They haven't been able to do that much this year and I can't see the d-line having a breakout game Saturday. Hopefully Mattison dials up some timely blitzes and gets the youngster's feet happy. This game should come down to the turnover battle. Will Gardner protect the ball? Will the young Sparty signal caller? These offenses need to work with some short fields and the kickers will be key. Michigan's is a senior who holds the record for most consecutive fg's made in team history....though he imploded vs. PSU.
Should be a low scoring affair.

I honestly thought "Michigan Men" looked at Sparty in pretty much the same manner that ND fan looks at Fredo -- annoying, but not enough of a threat to constitute a rival.

Re: I just really...
Nice takes, Steve.
Funchess and Gallon are my big concerns, obviously, but you've gotta look out for the unsung heroes in these games. Sup Drew Dileo?
But yeah, Funchess is a match up nightmare for LBs, but he's fast and athletic enough he can line up at wideout and do some damage there too. Gallon is fast, knows how to get open and catches everything. Gotta lock that guy down because it's no secret that's Gardner's favorite receiver. You're right about UM's running game, I would be surprised if Touissant gets more than 50 yards. I really, really hope Borges stubbornly commits to the off tackle run game anyway.
With MSU's heavy blitzing D, the best way to beat them is to just go right over the top against one on one man coverage and hope to connect on a few big plays. That's what ND did, and at times it resulted in a big chunk play or a PI call. But I'm not sure Gardner is as poised and accurate in the pocket as Tommy Rees. Of course, that's when he can tuck and scramble and make a play, which is also a concern for me.
For MSU, I think they have to pound the ball and continue to control the clock like they have all year. I believe MSU is #1 in the country in TOP, which, a lot of that obviously has to do with the defense forcing so many three and outs. But the running game just has to be efficient -- just convert on 3rd and 1, 3rd and 2, and keep the chains moving. Langford doesn't have monster numbers, but he's been very efficient and seems to get the yards he needs. The big question for me is which Connor Cook shows up? The guy who couldn't throw it in the ocean vs Purdue, or the guy who went 15/16 against Illinois? My guess is somewhere in between. Just convert your 3rd and short throws, and generally don't fuck it up. Let the defense win this game.
For me, this game boils down to four key reasons why MSU will win:
1) At home
2) MSU *should* win the turnover battle
3) MSU is better in the trenches on both sides (imo)
4) Health. MSU is about as healthy as you could be through 8 games.
Speaking of Funchess, wouldn't mind seeing him in a Lions uniform at all.

What's your point? UM fans hate MSU and want to win this game badly. See the original post of this thread. The Dantonio vs DickRod/Hoke era has changed a lot of perceptions. Anybody who tells you otherwise is in deep denial.Terry in Crapchester wrote:Wasn't Sparty's last Rose Bowl appearance in the 80's?
But yeah, it's not like I live in Michigan or anything and might have some insight on the matter.
You're trying to compare ND/BC versus an intrastate rivalry? You guys think about BC one day a year. UM and MSU is 365. We work with each other, have families divided, are neighbors with each other, get into bar spats with total strangers, etc. You don't get it, but I wouldn't expect you to.
The UM/OSU rivalry will always be bigger in terms of a broader national appeal, but make no mistake about it, there is more bad blood between UM and MSU, and there always will be. And even if you put all that stuff aside, it's still just a huge football game. The winner of this game is in the driver's seat to win the division.
Now, is it bigger than the rivalry between your wife and strip club patrons? Probably not, but it's up there.

We may think about BC one day a year, but make no mistake about it, they think about us 365. They consider us their biggest rival, period. If they were to go 1-11, with that one win coming against us, that would be considered a successful season at Chestnut Hill.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:You're trying to compare ND/BC versus an intrastate rivalry? And it isn't the same with ND/BC? There's a reason one of their other nicknames is "Backup College."We work with each other, have families divided, are neighbors with each other, get into bar spats with total strangers, etc.
And while I'm at it, I almost forgot this little gem: the patriarch of the so-called First Family of Sparty Football is none other than Hank Bullough.

To the extent that it is with two major in-state institutions? No, not even close. I doubt there are too many neighborhoods in the country where you can drive down and see alternating ND/BC flags on houses and cars like you would all over the state of MI with UM and MSU respectively.Terry in Crapchester wrote:And it isn't the same with ND/BC?
And now that UM's basketball program has re-emerged, things have only been heightened. The hate takes a seamless transition from football season straight to basketball season.
Re: I just really...
This has been an enjoyable thread thus far.
From an OSU perspective, besides the obvious reasons, I think the Buckeyes would prefer if Sparty runs the table all the way to the B1G championship game. At 11-1, MSU could probably break into the top 16 (behind all the 9-3 and 8-4 SEC teams) and that would assist the whole SOS to some degree. Nonetheless, expecting a very tight game on Saturday, probably with the home *night crowd helping the Spartans to eeek one out.
MSU 24
TSUN 21
* Correction, it's a 3:30 game, although it's gonna get dark early still

but you can't go anywhere in the KC metro area (mostly in KCMO) and not see MU and KU gear clashing. And it's not a friendly rivalry, we truly despise each other and it goes far beyond sports.
That said, Rack the UM and MSU rants in this thread.

Re: I just really...
^ Get the fuck out of this thread...
Gardner doesn't have to be entirely mistake free but if he's responsible for more than two turnovers, I cut the odds of Michigan winning in half. At worst, don't give them a short field because cheap points can be costly...the winning team won't get out of the 20s. I'm a little more concerned with this matchup than what I was a month ago. Maxwell's out and Cook looks like decent playmaker at QB, they've got a nice ground game lead by Langford to go with that top 10 defense and solid special teams. State's bad habit in the past is getting too amped up for games like this and they can't stop taking stupid penalties. If both teams are equally mistake-free...I'll favor the team with the stronger defense. The home field and the revenge factor will fuel State and I see a close win for them...Moo U 20, Michigan 17. The Wolverines have shown too many flaws for me to favor them in a rivalry game on the road.

Re: I just really...
This game has always meant more to State. I'm not talking about UM's arrogance or superiority here, just that the hate in the post Bo era is a lot stronger from EL than AA. Michigan has had a lot of success vs Sparty and that may have led to some complacency. Also Sparty has more local kids on the two deep than UM does traditionally. The Michigan raised kids know the rivalry, kids from outside the region can't feel it until they take the field at least once in the other team's yard. There is a great atmosphere in both stadiums for this game and it either brings out your best or you cower. I've seen this game in person almost 20 times, six at Spartan Stadium. I was at the game when Tony Banks led a late 4th quarter drive to beat Michigan, I was at the game where Woodson made the greatest INT I've ever seen. There was the game where Desmond got tackled on a ballsy 2-pt conversion call. I saw the slow clock by Spartan Bob. I saw the Braylon game and the Manningham game. I've seen blowouts and nail biters. I've seen upsets and scabdick wins. I've seen huge hits, key guys getting knocked out of the game. I've seen Demitrius Brown chuck 7 (SEVEN) picks. I've seen this game coached by Bo, Mo, Lloyd, Rrod, Hoke, Darryl Rogers, Muddy Waters, John LLLLL, Saban, Williams, Perles, and Coah D. I don't care about running YOU GUYS SUCK smack....I'm in my 40's (I'm a man!) that shit is over for me. It was fun when I was younger, but like CFB, life is different now. I want to talk football. If you are a Sparty, I expect you to hate UM. Sparty hates UM 24/7/365 and I get that. They have a well earned inferiority complex (not knocking them). UM gets the pub in good times and bad. UM gets a few spots extra in the polls on brand recognition...I get it. But don't think Michigan (the team) sleeps on MSU. They are very aware of what this rivalry is about. They know what it's like to have a class go their entire career without having possession of the Paul Bunyun trophy. They know what they have to do to win this game having gutted out a hard fought victory last year. Now can they get it done on the road?

Re: I just really...
As an outsider looking in it seems that OSU is the primary rival to both Michigan players and fans. It also seems that Michigan is the primary rival to MSU players and fans. That has to bother MSU to some extent, and that very likely is where some of the feelings of arrogance of UM start.
This happens pretty frequently. See Texas vs OU and ATM and OK State. Tech with ATM. Kansas State with Kansas, etc, etc, etc.

When MSU was not a perennial cellar dwellar in hockey and scUM was a legitimate NCAA Frozen Four competitor every season, the hockey hate was pretty strong, too.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:And now that UM's basketball program has re-emerged, things have only been heightened. The hate takes a seamless transition from football season straight to basketball season.

Does slOhio still have jurisdictions that threaten to take you to jail if you don't pay your speeding ticket immediately? How is that even fucking legal in the first place?88 wrote:Some solid takes here. I hope the game goes to five overtimes, ends in controversy, and starts a riot that destoys the entire state and all it's inhabitants.

In a macro sense, you are correct. OSU is the bigger historical rival. I'm talking in terms of where the hatred, anger and passion lies these days. I seriously do not know any UM fans that live here here who hate OSU more than State these days.Left Seater wrote:As an outsider looking in it seems that OSU is the primary rival to both Michigan players and fans. And it's funny that UM players are the ones doing all the chirping to the media this week.

Sayin'.
Hell, they take penalties in non-Michigan games. While I didn't agree with all the PI calls against Notre Dame...those were big penalties.
They're more disciplined under Dantonio than under the previous knuckleheads. State's a physical team on defense...they'll take a penalty the same way a mean dog on a leash will leap at your face if you get too close. State's secondary has evolved from burnt toast that occasionally made a big play to being an in-your-face press coverage group that will get their share of turnovers and the PI calls just come with the territory. Hard to not get penalties with the way they play.
89 in green could be nightmare but hopefully Lewan keeps him under control. Calhoun is what Will Gholston could've been if he gave a shit. If he's chasing Gardner all afternoon...the turnovers will be plentiful. Gardner needs time to work the ball down the field.

Looks like the best part of scUM's highlight film is 77 (Logan?) and his extracurricular play around the pile.

Re: I just really...
A good defense will limit what you can do but the playcalling lacked imagination after the first drive. You're getting your QB killed and you refuse to put an extra guy in the backfield for blitz pick up and you don't call some quick throws or screens to counteract the pressure.
I'm mad at my team but I'll give State their fair share of credit...they did enough on offense but that team is going to play in Indy because of that defense.

Wow. The way the season is shaping up it could turn out that Ohio St. doesn't play one game vs a team in the TOP 20!L45B wrote: From an OSU perspective, besides the obvious reasons, I think the Buckeyes would prefer if Sparty runs the table all the way to the B1G championship game. At 11-1, MSU could probably break into the top 16 (behind all the 9-3 and 8-4 SEC teams) and that would assist the whole SOS to some degree.
When was the last time that happened??!!!!

I thought Gardner would throw 2-3 picks but as it turns out he couldn't stay upright long enough to do so. What an azzbeating he (and his shoddy o-line) took all game long. I know, I know. It's only a matter of time until all your 9-star recruits start dominating. Brady Hoke is one year away from being one year away.
Now, if you guys could take care of business against the Corn next Saturday, that would be much appreciated.

Re: I just really...
Can't throw picks if you're on your ass after a 3-step drop. They exploited the lack of experience on the interior of the offensive line. The lack of adjustment to the pass rush and keeping a guy home with Gardner drove me crazy. Especially when I had to listen to how bad Fitz is at pass blocking at least a dozen times during the broadcast. Then you see State's fullback making plays in the passing game...remember when Michigan used to use a fullback?
