I Love The Ducks. I Hate Duck Fans.

Post by M2 »

This coming from a former player... who is spending his first year not playing for the ducks and is going to the games as a fan.

Ex-Ducks player to Oregon fans 'Go (bleep) yourselves'

My friend and I took our seats where I soon became acquainted with the most ignorant people in all of college football.

... and he's right.

Pretty hard to locate an online article that says "**Insert name of school** fans are the **dumbest/most obnoxious/most bandwagon/smell funny**.

Just pick one, and there's an article about it somewhere.

Although this one is awesome -- a complete hack, infamous muckraker columnist claims he got a letter from a dormer player he refuses to name. Screams "credibility" from the mountaintops.

Seems like he's not the only duck player... with the same opinion.

I read the letter written by the former Ducks football player and found myself nodding in agreement. I played on the team as a walk on for the 2010 Rose Bowl team. I graduated from the University of Oregon in August, attend all of the home games, and count Duck football Saturdays as my favorite days of the year. But it is my belief that Duck fans, particularly the students, have become so self-entitled and spoiled with the team’s success that I often find myself telling people that Oregon has one of the worst student fan bases in the country.

I can't remember which MNC this one was.... maybe 24 or 25.

There's so many I start to lose track.

I first became jaded towards the student bodies support of the team following the loss to the Toby Gerhart lead Stanford team at the farm in 2009. Everyone I talked to following the big upset over Cal, and the Halloween win over USC, had nothing but praise for where the team was headed.

Thank god... that game was just a "roadblock".

I think this is the guy you're talking about...

I must say... they play some bad-ass football in this guy's hood

Seems... chipper was a big fan of this guy as well as the best players on the team...

Kelly called Ebanez totally selfless. "There was something about him from that workout in 2009. I don't know what it was, but he's a perfect example of the meritocracy of college football. Those who work hard can make it here. It's merit based. You couldn't have a successful football program without those unsung heroes that nobody ever talks about."

Said Barner, the team's star running back: "Nobody's going to out-work Dane, even on his sickest day."

Said teammate Josh Huff, "Ebanez has the respect of every single person on this team, and he's the best blocker among the receivers."

Said offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich, "He'll do anything you ask of him; he's one of my favorite kids."

All this tireless work at such a high cost begs some questions for a 22-year old kid: Why do it at all? Why play when few might ever notice? Why work so hard knowing you'll always be behind the scenes? Why run up the debt while also knowing people in your own college classes don't even know you're on the team?

"You know," Ebanez said, looking around the room at his star teammates giving interviews, "I did it for them."

He's not Berkeley... enough

Otherwise... he'd be playing Kline at quarterback.
