If I spent a great deal of time talking about how much better I was than the Beatles, I'd fully expect it.

Re: Lou Reed takes a walk on the dead side
The influence of Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground on me as a musician, as a creative person is just simply massive. I came to Lou's music later in life, at just about the same time I was beginning to really delve into the musical side of my creative capacity. Lou's music, particularly the Velvets, was on the same level for me as Howlin' Wolf, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Pink Floyd, The Who and even dare I say, The Beatles. What Lou Reed and his mates in The Velvet Underground gave to me was the realization that improvisation need not be reduced to banal repetition, but could be chaotic, spontaneous and completely nonsensical, yet still beautiful, compelling and musical.

What is your "creative capacity," and can the board have an example of it?BSmack wrote:The influence of Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground on me as a musician, as a creative person is just simply massive. 'What Goes On' by the Dils was a brilliant cover. Couldn't name a song he wrote otherwise. I read an interview with him ages ago and he was obnoxious and self absorbed, so never bothered. Bob Zimmerman territory?

Nobody ever accused Lou Reed of being popular. Just hugely influential.Dr_Phibes wrote:'What Goes On' by the Dils was a brilliant cover. Couldn't name a song he wrote otherwise. I read an interview with him ages ago and he was obnoxious and self absorbed, so never bothered. Bob Zimmerman territory?

No shit. I suspect that's an unattributed quote. But I'm too lazy to google it.poptart wrote:What is your "creative capacity," and can the board have an example of it?BSmack wrote:The influence of Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground on me as a musician, as a creative person is just simply massive. Re: Lou Reed takes a walk on the dead side
I listened to New York right after I heard he died, love it just as much now as when I first listened to it. The world is full of arrogant pricks and maybe Lou was one of them, but I don't give a flying fuck, IMHO he was an incredible story teller and musician.
RIP Lou
RIP Lou

You're a musician? Chaotic, spontaneous and completely nonsensical? What sort of instrument do you play with your fat little fingers?BSmack wrote:I wrote it. Spoke from the heart. Try it some time.Goober McTuber wrote:No shit. I suspect that's an unattributed quote. But I'm too lazy to google it.

I play the guitar and sing. Probably not well enough for your ears.

Does this mean we're going to be "treated" to some live tunes some night? Just joking Bri.
